- Many of us struggle with boundaries-whether it's overcommitting, ignoring our own needs, or being swept up in negative thought patterns. If you've felt overwhelmed by the demands of others, trapped by cultural or familial expectations, or even caught in your own cycles of self-criticism or overthinking... then I hope you find this talk on the Power of No helpful.
Saying "no" isn’t about rejection or harshness but about reclaiming space for what truly matters. It’s about learning to set boundaries with clarity and kindness, both with others and within ourselves. This includes recognizing when to step away from relationships, commitments, or thought patterns that no longer serve us, and embracing the freedom that comes with those choices.
AND... "no" can lead to a deeper "yes"-to self-respect, authenticity, and the life you want to create. For example, by saying no to overwork, you say yes to rest and connection. By saying no to old habits or unhelpful thought streams, you open the door to peace and resilience.
If you’ve ever found it hard to assert your needs, been trained to always say yes, or if you’re simply ready to claim more ease and clarity in your life, this talk offers practical tools and reflections to help you.
I also offered a simple yet profoundly restorative meditation practice that helps you come home to yourself, and resting in contentment. You can see that here: rickhanson.com...

Much needed, thank you.
Wonderful ! Thank you so much❤
I don’t have a problem saying NO, particularly if I examine my own moral end ethical standards and do not wish to be unfaithful to them. But I try very hard not to be critical of other people. So important. Thank you for another great talk, Rick. Blessings to you. 💚☘️🌿
Doc, this is so very helpful. It's astonishing to me how perfectly you have enumerated and described all the different ways and facets to consider. Echoing and clarifying so many of my own muddled thoughts.
I say no to eating animals...no to alcohol....no to abusive people
I had this huge family dispute over my chronic PTSD and boundaries, but my brother and I agreed to say “no” to staying estranged for the holidays to avoid more stress. No was big this holiday season.
Thank you Dr Hanson. My baby loves you love and she's got to enjoy listening to your soothing voice. loved it . The power of No indeed very helpful. No means no.
Many thanks! This is Buddhist true and an important message in these times. Look for the admirable friends and I find the un-fabricated difficult at present in my practice. A much needed listen to today📿
Thanks
Thanks!
I am shocked the Buddha did not understand that the dog is already enlightened.
