Nice video, The Knut has been around longer than the Michoacan. A friend Martin Morales was working on tying the Knut and creating the Michoacan. I started with the Knut and then moved to the Michaocan with an 8mm 24" cord and 4 wraps. Mostly I use the Rope Wrench and Michoacan nowadays. Both are great hitches. Good video! Thank you!
Thank you for that vid! Cool to see them next to eachother. Not an Arborist, "just" a ropie, my supervisor is a arb legend over here, he got me onto the Knut. May I suggest a way to tie it that seem simpler to me: Start wrapping from left to right, but wrap one down at first, cross over yourself, and wrap the upwards wraps. That way the knot kinda holds itself together. If you're done with wrapping, just poke the top end under the first downwards wrap and it's pretty much set and adjusted from the start... Stay safe and again thanks for sharing your knowledge!
I prefer a 5/1 Michoacán with a 12mm prusik. Doesn’t slip as much but descends plenty smooth with the rope I have. I’m 240 so if you’re a lot lighter you might not need the extra top wrap.
Thank you so much for creating these and sharing them with us - super helpful for a newbie like me plus I’m a visual learner so this is awesome to come back and reference
The algorithms are amazing. I just recently made the decision to begin a tree climbing service company, bought some gear online, & now the best, most informative videos have been placed in my feeds... Thanks for this video; this was on my "must google" list.
Great video to help clarify a few of the small details of tying this hitch. It has served me well over the last year also. Thanks for taking the time to make it.
Thank you, I noticed this knot in a previous video of yours and thought it would be great to try out. I was using the VT on with my rope wrench and was frustrated with the overall length and its constant stretch to the very bottom of the wrench. The compactness of the Knut definitely solved that issue for me.
i have found that i like hitches that the top wrap gets wrapped around the other leg of the hitch and used before clipping to the beanr. i find that the top wrap does the real holding and if it cinches tooo tight it makes the hitch not fun to move around after putting yo body weight on it. i really like the matt cornell hitch that one is my favorite also the 3-4 vt is one to and if dressed and set correctly there is very minimal set back. thank you pat for everything you have done for the climber. i still read my new edition fundamentals!!! whoot whoot one love buddy
You're right, they are so similar. the Knut is older than the michoacan, on the year 2001 I was trying to tie it and because of that similarity, I came up with the climbing hitch that later I would called the Michoacan. Thanks for sharing.
this has to be the dux knuts! .. compact and self tending .. bonus sounds great for keeping gear down. might use it in my lanyard good channel..wish I'd discovered it earlier
A year ago you made this an d said the Knut is your new favorite, is it still? If not what is, why? What is you number 1, all around go to climbing hutch?
Always appreciate your stuff Patrick. Ran into problems using schwabisch and had a friend recommend the knut. Will look for some videos demonstrating. Thank you for posting.
Ive learned that its hard to mess these friction hitches up, Ive tied them all sorts of ways. I mix up the distel and michoacan and they work very well either way
This winter is used a schwabisch, distel, VT, XT, Michoacán, and now I’ll try this. All others bind up on me after use, and the Michoacán was the easiest to adjust. Are you using a 10mm hitch cord in this video. I’m thinking that might help with the binding. I have also tried taking one wrap off some of these knots. Any suggestions? Great videos, thanks for everything you do.
Omg this knut is the bomb way easier to tend you slack I was using the vt but it always got to tight and when I'm doing the my spar tie off it's still easy to tend
Hmmmm gonna try that knut today. Using Samson vortex Cool as an SRT line.. It’s almost 13mm.. Can’t get my knot to move upward smoothly while biting when I sit back..
People started calling it the Martin, which is my name, I told them I didn't want to call it that, because there are a lot of Martin's, Michoacan there's only one and it is my home state in Mexico.and yes it has accent on the last "a"
Michoacan is great for all purpose. It's what I've been climbing on almost exclusively for the last two years. Knute traditionally seems to be most often recommended for lanyard use. Although years ago, I used it all time on my main climbing line with great results. It all depends on your climbing rope and prusic diameters/materials. Patrick here is motivating me to give the knute another try!
Have u ever used the Ropelombia hitch? Havent seen many videos on it but ive used it for a couple years. Reminds me of these hitches with some miner differences. Wondering if u had any thoughts on it
@@TreeMuggs_PatrickM thanks for the reply. I trimmed trees 20 years ago now. And never used or saw these techniques for tree climbing. Im still very active using rigging as I am a lineman and we use a lot of gear and different techniques. Over the years as a lineman it’s amazing the technology and techniques that is out there now for my trade. I feel like as time went on techniques and gear from rock climbing, sailing, tree trimming were all incorporated and passed around. I only trim my trees on my property and for close friends now, but have recently been watching videos of tree trimming and everything seems different now with single line climbing and using the pulleys in the climbing hitch. Even the belts are way different. I’m gonna have to try some of these newer techniques. All I’ve ever used was the tail end from my snap to tie a Blake hitch on my moving rope system. Lol forgive me if I didn’t get some of the terminology right.
Important question do you prefer the ivy rope or bluemoon I have bluemoon been wanting to try the poison ivy Samson but it's High priced and people say it picks easy. ? What would you recommend. For both srt drt. ? ?

I'll be trying it out tomorrow

I've just recently started climbing on the Mich and really like it. I'll have to give this a shot, too.

How did it get its name, if I may ask? Do you normally write it without the accent mark present in 'Michoacán'?
Been on the knut for the last 4-5 years, it's great
Awesome 👌 👏 👍 job Patrick, extremely talented man at what you do and have all my respect, stay safe and GOD bless you 🙏 brother

Have you ever tried the Catalon hitch?
Have you ever seen the Jrb climbing system?
It's awesome!
Do you make your own eyes on the ropes? If so, how? I've looked into splicing a plastic wrap seems easier.
Plastic wrap?
I just started climbing on the knut one of the guys who help train me tied it for me lol but what kind of hitch cord is that looks 👍
I’m spatially challenged in my perceptions but those wraps look counter clockwise not clockwise?
What are these two best used for?

Thank you
I’m new to climbing and I started with the knut, I love it you can bomb out on it easily
Is that a ivy rope I have a silver ivy n love it
Yes both ropes are Yale 11.7, Blue Moon and Hi-Vy
28" long, but what diameter do you prefer?
What size prussik cords do you have? I assume you have 11.7 line right
What is the purpose of a tending pulley.? We never had one for a Blake hitch.
The pulley makes it easy to slide the hitch up the rope with just one hand.

Blue Moon is an excellent all around line, I like it
@@TreeMuggs_PatrickM but your thoughts on ivy line was question thanks for hitting back
My fault got long-winded
Isn't it 4 wraps up, counterclockwise?
Camera makes ropes look thicker and is deceiving sometimes .
For english speaker bros, think of it like "meech-wah-cahn" or "meech-oh-ah-cahn" all in one smooth sound
Michoacán man Acapulco gold man….
Nice. Just add what they are used for so us noobs learn more. Just saying climbing hitch doesn’t tell much
The knut is sweet. Hve you messed around with the enzyme or the catalyst? they're both new to me and seem pretty cool.
What length hitch cords are those?
28 inches
I wonder why is called Michoacán and what that word means?
It's a state in Mexico, it was named by a climber (Martín) here in San Diego.
Michoacan is the name of my state home in Mexico, I thought there are many martin,s but there's only one michoacan. Martin is my name by the way.
Funny name of a hitch, the name knut means knot i swedish.
Thanks. I'm gonna try the knut, cuz it's easier to pronounce.
Try this: Meecho-a-kahn. It's not that hard to pronounce. :)
