    Just replaced mine and it's perfect. It was a biaatch! I removed the belt, and A/C compressor from the bottom. It was alot of feel work. I couldn't see much. Great video!

      Great job! Isn't that one recessed bolt a treat to get out!

    On the Esteem 1.8L there is an aluminum mount down by the water pump. That mount has some casting protrusions that make it useable for other models. I took that mount off and sawed that
    unused part off and this allows me to change the water pump with more room to work. Lots more work the first time but makes the next replacement much easier. Pump goes in easily. Don't know if your model is the same but maybe. V Rolfe Chicago

    Thank you for you advice, I did it, one recomendation is to remove the spacers on the pump monting flange. It was lot easier after that.

    How many miles did the car have on it when you started to hear the water pump noise??

      Maybe 10 000 km... It was the pump I replaced a year before... Junk.

    Thanks for posting, I have a 2011 sx4 apparently the exhaust manifold has to come off to do the water pump

      I've done my water pump twice and never removed the exhaust manifold.
      I removed the side motor mount to jack the motor up a bit and the plastic thing on top of the motor and really that's it. It's not that hard to get out. It' fiddly. Get a 10mm short socket, a 10mm long, both a short and long 10 mm ratcheting wrenches. They will save you huge time. You will want the sockets in both 1/4" and 3.8 drives. Swivel extensions are great too.
      There isn't a lot of room in there but it is do able.
      Note the pump has mounting shims that go in 4 of the bolt holes. 2 into the timing cover and two into the mounting block. Look at the new pump carefully to see how to insert it.
      Good luck.

      You can find all the repair instructions (For the whole car) on one of the SX4 forums. Just google around.
      Tip: Don't follow them exactly. To replace the water pump the dealership instructions say to remove the bumper... Yea.
      Check UA-cam for other how to videos and tips.

      thanks so much! I don't get removing the bumper either, I was looking at my water pump and it looks like the pulley is fixed to the pump, maybe that's why the exhaust manifold has to come off? I will search around like you said, hopefully my water pump will last a long while, I just replaced the coolant, I used Honda/Subaru/Acura blue long life coolant since that's what color was in there originally, but I didn't want to pay the original Suzuki coolant, I'm sure its very similar to each other, I love my sx4, it has been great so far and a treat to have AWD in the winter. I hope Suzuki comes back into North America.

    Hi! Thanks for these tips, yours are going to be very helpful (gonna change mine next week). Checked for the price for service this kind of repair and its a minimum of $400, so, I'll take the chance to do it myself in a "Do it yourself" kind of place.
    I have a question: was yours leaking or just noisy? Mine is leaking, and I just can't find from where, that is why I will make the move.
    And to resume your trick: remove the top engine made of plastic, then remove engine mount support on the passenger side. Then, use a jack and crank up the engine in way to have an easier access to the pulleys and the water pump. Is that correct?

      Mine was noisy. No leaks but it turned stiffly by hand.
      Note: take off the bracket that the WP is attached to as well. It will go a little smoother.
      I used silicone as a gasket because the first time the gasket slipped and leaked.... don't go wild with the silicone. It can plug your rad.I was rear ended last weekend and the pass rear tire was almost torn off! I'm still waiting on the verdict form my insurance co. Fix or replace....?To see it search on UA-cam: SX4 Accident and Mac 26D Lights. I want fix! If I have to replace I will get another SX4! AWD only.
      Good luck with yours.

    Oh man....I've been chasing a "ringing" noise emanating from the accessory drive for months....belt (x2) no, idler bearing no, tensioner bearing no, tensioner assembly no, although these all had seen better days. Had my suspicions about the W/P but your Vid has just about confirmed it. Ah well almost 300K guess I cant bitch. Thanks for the Posting... Cheers

    I see that some have removed the whole housing, exhaust manifold and other components. In your case you pushed the engine upward by removing the passenger engine mount. I hope I can do because the water pump was so bad the the pulley fell off amd now I need to find it in a junk yard. Terrible situation.

    • @martyjackson4806
      @martyjackson4806  5 років тому

      Get a OEM water pump! I went cheap and got one I had to replace it 13 months later! One year warranty....
      I didn't remove the exhaust manifold. The job is easy enough but you will need patience and a good selection of sockets, extensions and swivels. I think I got the hidden cover bolt out with my 8mm ratcheting wrench holding a 1/4 adapter going to the 10mm socket. That only got the bolt started on the way out... Tip: Do this from the wheel well.
      Good luck.

    You have to record from beginning

    • @martyjackson4806
      @martyjackson4806  5 років тому

      The beginning is; Unhook the Negative terminal form the battery. Then start taking stuff that is in the way of the pump off. TIP: Loosen all the bolts that attach to pullies before taking the belt off. Good luck.
