Hey guys I am Bulgarian married to a Scottish woman .For all of you that want to move down here you need to know the following.1)Bulgarian peeps are extremely similar in many ways to Scottish people and I don't only mean the bagpipes. We are very welcoming people. The life is good and cheap. We have the most amazing food in all of Europe. You are always welcome.
I lived in the US 23 years. I have been home 4 years. I chose Bulgaria because of the ssi payments and the fact I choose where i live and what bills I want. High in the mountains, i can be completely off grid and it is royally legal. A few years from now, My only bill will be property tax. That is it! Luckly for me, my neighbor also speaks English so evenwhen I forget a Bulgarian word, I continue the conversation in English. I love Bulgaria also because we dont have Tornados, Hurricanes or really annoying raccoons or big deadly snakes! Life is good high in the mountains! All the best to you!
God bless you my friend love from a Bulgarian here we are all glad to have European people come to our country because in the end we have an European mentality lets hope we sont have any more of the asian migrants cheers
Love seeing it when people from abroad like your country. I just want to point out that there are some amazing towns and cities in south western part of Bulgaria - Blagoevgrad with the biggest cross in the Balkans, some parks and the centre is quite nice fill with youngsters because of the two universities. Also there is an irish pub (i know you are from Scot), but anyways another decent place is Sandanski, Rupite and Razlog. Btw next year I am thinking to go in Scotland, which place do you advice me to visit?
+Nikolay Odzhovski ....Irish pub sounds good to me Nikolay, when your in Scotland Edinburgh is the best city to visit, however if you can travel north into the highlands up the west coast you will see the best wild beauty in Europe or even the world. Enjoy.
I wouldnt say Blagoevgrad is a nice town and saying that having the biggest cross as something impressive or important just shows how boring the town is. Blagoevgrad is pretty underdeveloped and if it wasnt for the many Americans living there it will be a downright shithole. I know a lot of people from there and they have the same opinion even though theyre locals
hi Ronnie, I'm going for a small 2 bed with a large bit of land. is it gonna be impossible to do an extension or even build another house at the end of the field ? (not really my intention but with so many unknowns im thinking out loud) I plan to do some greenhouse gardening and wondering if i'd be allowed to sell produce. my last question ~fur noo~ is about the citizenship, is it difficult thanks mate,
+neiallswheel ..... Hi, Extensions and new builds are all posable, planning is getting stricter in towns and city's but in the villages its easy doable, you can have a business selling your produce and there is a number of car boot sales popping up all over the country bare in mind though that there is lots of brits and Bulgarians already doing this, as for citizenship, Bulgaria is in the eu so if your a Brit you are already a citizen, you do however have to get a residency card if here for more than three months, if my memory serves you require, place of residence, eu medical card, proof of income (small amount) declaration you will not be a burdin on the state. Hope this helps. more videos in the spring.
+neiallswheel For the house you need paper work, in a vilige it will be easy, for the greenhouse/garden you dont need anything. Just find a welder and someone to bend the iron pipes and your done, you can ask your neighbours for help, i am sure that they will be glad to help you. Tip, you will not be able to sell the production to the viligers, all of them have gardens. If you whant to sell to traders, yes you can, BUT its illigal if you dont have papers of a farmer. If the authorities got you selling whit no papaers( i doubt that they will come for a search, but if you go to a market place there they check) they will fine you. For the citizenship, if you live 5 years in Bulgaria you got the papers, or if you have parent bulgarian, or marry bulgarian and etc. the citizenship is easy.
hi both myself and my boyfriend are planning on moving to Bulgaria later this year could you tell us how to find a reputable estate agent and solicitor many thanks on any help you can give would be appreciated
I am no longer in Bulgaria, however finding a lawyer is easy enough, estate agents are all over but sorry cant recommend any, its been a while since i needed one, if you need a lawyer in Veliko Tarnovo i could pm you the address of mine, she is really good and speaks english perfectly. Best of luck with your move.
Hi. We have just completed on our house ready to retire out there permanently in 5 yrs. I can highly recommend Dimitrina at yantra homes in veliko tarnovo. She worked hard to find us what we were looking for before going out for a viewing visit. Also dobri who works at yantra and was our interpreter throughout. My advice? Do it. Be open to a different lifestyle and get out of the UK. ..it's a messed up society with nothing to offer any working age brit..x
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner but been off-line for a few weeks. I moved to Bulgaria 13 years ago so cant remember the name of the firm, however it was a local firm out of Buckie in Moray. it cost me about 3 thousand for a 20 ft container if I remember correctly.
Anyone with info on living Altimir area? How do you find it leaving the house unattended when back abroad? is it safe? I read some people had their renovated house emptied out....
Sorry don’t know that area. I never had any problems leaving my house for up to 6 months, however I was in a position where the locals thought I was retired SAS, not from me but a newspaper article. I was there for 12 years and find overall that if you leave your house for a short time you’re okay but if you leave it for extended periods of time like a year or two you stand a chance a big chance of everything being taken including your electric wiring and plumbing.
Hey man Im thinking of buying a couple houses in Veleiko tarnovo is it safe for a fellow scotsman ?? As I heard on the news here in scotland attacks on foreigners wrre becoming more common as theres a lot of mafia types not liking foreigners buying up property any advice would be great thanks
I’ve been away for the last three years, however I did make a video security of a drunk, you’ll find it in the ascot and Bulgaria playlist. I was there 12 years and never felt under any kind of threat, Except from a woman that was renting my house, Nightmare.
+Ronnie Cruickshank John, my hubby was Director of Logistics in Kuwait and people chuckle when I say we love it, but we did...Best assignment ever was between Clark AFB and SHAPE Belgium :)
Hello Ronnie! Am coming out to Bulgaria in the next couple of weeks. But before coming, I really wanted to get some reassurance on a couple of important things. Is there an email for you or skype to contact you on? Thanks. From Natalia
Looking for like minded off gridders and no dig gardening guru folks that dont mind getting together talking and hanging out for skill workshop or plain hanging out !
