What's that a big signal in the ground the indicated a deep hoard? Because I'm wondering about the small hoard I found recently. I'm wondering if I should cut a large area of turf off and re-detect.
I would spade out a good 4" down. Wait till the grounds a bit moist. You'd be able relay the turd that way.... Nothing ventured nothing gained

I think this is a fatalistic find but how it was handle by the authorities is mind boggling. I know everyone was very excited but the way the found coins were handled is just plain destructive. Who in their right mind finds and rubs a gold coin with sand and clay on it?????? and an excavator to dig 6 inches of soil off what you think is a pot of coins. I'm just a lowly metal detectorist but even I know you don't rub silver or gold coins if you value them at all. Just saying. But really an incredible find.
I’d put it down to complete excitement... your right though chris, any find of note is best cleaned with more care 🤩👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼

Must have been very exciting, not sure about digging them up with knives and the toothbrush cleaning though - not a great idea with valuable coins. I also hope you recorded the exact GPS positions of them relative to each other as that is very important information for historians. I guess it's easy to get carried away with the excitement of it all but historical context is vital when you find something so important.
The Jayser it was the archaeologists that was digging the coins out after... they also marked where each coin came from so fully recorded

Sid will that find be yours mate, how does it work. As if it was on it's own its treasure but you would get a cut of the price. Just asking questions as to learn about the rules etc on big organised digs.

Wonderful find... however, please, please, don't rub or scrub (or indeed uncover them with a trowel!!!) lovely old coins when you first find them! one spec of gravel in that soil and you'll score the coin! Take them home, soak in plain water and brush the dirt off with an old water colour brush,... could save a lot of heartache!

Well done to the finders. Metal detecting has changed a lot over the years though. It's no longer a hobby, it's big business.,
with people paying £60 or more for a weekend's detecting.
Get 300 or more to turn up, and even after expenses it's a nice earner. Many detectorists have lost their permissions, due
to groups coming in and waving £notes under the noses of farmers, so they can hold rallies, but not before they've seeded
fields with some old coins and broken artifacts. Not that this happened here of course.
tectorama i love going to rallies, great get togethers and the money generated gets us onto land that would normally be a massive no... 🤩🤩🤩

Was this field NEVER detected before of what? I guess I don't understand since it seems that just about any field that is left has been detected.

This was one heck of an episode, I think I would have probably either messed my pants, let out a string of expletives or had a heart attack finding a gold Noble. AWESOME, gorgeous coins. I can't even begin to imagine what finding one would feel like. How will you be displaying your coin or did you and the other guys have to turn them in?

who gets to keep the finds on a organised dig like this?
When the Coroner declares them as Treasure they will belong to the State.The BM Valuation committe will then place a value on them.The Landowner and the finders will get half each.Usually these days separate cheques are issued.Hope this helps you.

How does this work, if one bloke finds the hoard. Then people start approaching if you no your on to a hoard is that your find. I noticed barrier tape put up. Is it down to the finder who comes into the finds area. How is the find split if more people approach. Just intretsed to no how this kind of thing works on organised digs. As to if you found it alone it's obviously treasure so the state gets it. Is that Wright.
YNWA96 4 people found the hoard, then the area got taped off.... everyone that was allowed to enter were only digging to help the original 4 find more coins towards the hoard... anything found in that area is the original 4 finders..... then after it goes to treasure trove and if they wish to keep the hoard the money gets split.... the land owner has 50% and the 4 finders split there 50%

Cheers for the explanation budy, I was out this evening I decided to use full tones on garts ultimate. I really enjoyed it, I thought it would overwhelm me. I used the xy screen found one coin and it was clean 82 and clean strait line left to right. It will take time to learn. Cant wait. I'm goin to look into joining a local club maybe I will get help from people atleast I can be corrected if I'm setting my computer wrong. Take care budy all the best.

Ha ha ha ha that's what I thought. Bet the original finder was like for fuck sake. How do I hide this and explain why I want to camp in the middle of a field for the night ha ha ha. Made up for the lad who found the hoard but I feel sorry for him as I may be wrong but it looked like people just gate crashed his party. I've never been on a organised dig so I dont no how it works.
