BMW X3 E83 Windshield Washer Pump Diagnose and Repair

- If your BMW X3 E83 or similar model has a windshield washer fluid leak or if the pump motor has failed, this is the repair video for you. The part is less than $20 and can be replaced in less than 5 minutes as shown. I wouldn't bother replacing the grommet, they don't seem to be the point of failure. I also wouldn't buy the most expensive motor, I did last time and guess which motor needs replacing now?

A bit of advice for anybody who's rear jet didn't spew, 1.) make sure you can hear the pump. 2.) keep pumping till water spews out, it takes a bit for the liquid to travel across the car. Just did this on my own, no experience with cars before, thank you so much! bought the pumps off ebay $6 each.
Thanks for the video. Popped off left pump, replaced, all good. Could see dried blue fluid on it. 5 minute fix.

Which motor is for the rear hatch? The right side one ?assuming the right when you’re in front of the car.
Brad L unplug 1 motor and then try both switches to determine what motor you unplugged. I think I did this myself to determine it was the front washer motor, great question

Thank you for the video, it was very helpful. One of my pump motors was blocked. I took it out, took off it's case with a screwdriver and gave it a spin with pliers. After cleaning the exterior rust and lubricating it with wax it was as good as new. I also took the water tank inside and gave it a good wash. You would be surprised how much dirt there is on it's filters and interior walls.

Thx for the video , I have the same car and both front and back ain’t working . should I replace both motors ?? I think I also have a third motor in there
sympaticoo1 test the motors w/12 volts and replace any that are dead. From there you might have other issues you need to deal with, good luck

My x3 2012 washer motor is running constantly
You probably have a bad switch then (the wand is broken, stuck on always). Verify this by hooking up a volt meter and see if it's constantly showing 12 volts at the plug that goes to the motor. If so, get your wand fixed or if it's too expensive, run a new switch just for your wiper fluid into the car. I did this on my buddy's old Volkswagen Fox, he was happy with the work around, good luck!
