One day driving to work I had a road rage incident that got me so heated. One of my co-workers brought her dogs that day and I was playing with them and I swear I instantly felt better and forgot about the incident. They're love and affection is therapeutic. From that day on I decided animals are a gift to us and decided to go vegan.

It’s like, I can’t like the president? What has happened to society, to where you get attacked for supporting the president. If you eradicated most of the trump haters, it would probably be a much more polite world.

@@susannaCdonovan23 I feed the squirrels daily. Have for yrs. Every now and then I will get one that comes to me and eat out of my fingers. I had one once that would follow me then stand up on my leg I could feel his little claws. He would even get up and sit on my mother's knee. I have one now that takes notice when he hears my voice in the house. He waits for me to come out then runs up to me to get fed. It always amazes me how gently they take the food out of my fingers. It's always sad when they disappear. I always miss them. At least we've had the pleasure to take care of them while their here and I'm sure it added a little something to their lives .

I had a similar experience except it was with a raccoon. Found 2 lb pup paralyzed after being hit by a car. You have to be a little more knowledgeable for their care, they have special needs, but I couldn’t have said it better “It’s been a whole awakening of something I didn’t know I needed”. I was always a bit afraid of raccoons. Raccoons are smarter than dogs and almost as smart a rhesus monkey. After having a chance to experience their really very sweet gentle character, I love raccoons and even fewer people understand that.

And neither is allergic! I knew that I might have children with pet allergies when I married my husband who is allergic to most anything with fur. We have gone 12 years with a Havanese dog, as long as my son and husband don’t get all up close. Every single one of them are allergic to cats, but the four daughters loved having a dog growing up! And now I’ve rescued two guinea pigs and keep them in an area away from those who are allergic. It works because the piggies are in one space, away from everyone.
If I didn’t have a family with allergies, I have no idea how many pets I would have!

Neural networks with only a handful of cells are already able to LEARN.
And a pond snail has 11,000.
A frog has around 16 million.
      A hamster around 90 million.
      A rat around 200 million.
And then we quickly get into the billions with animals like racoons or dogs.
We humans come in at around 86 billion neurons.
The relations are crazy. Our brains compared to something like a snail, but also the fact that a snail brain already has 11k neurons and is more than capable of learning...

When I was 11 years old and playing jump rope, I sat down next to a hedge for a few minutes. Out of the hedges jumped a baby squirrel into my arms. I was shocked he wasn't afraid. I couldn't find a parent or nest. I took him home and our family raised him. When he was 6 months we began introducing him to living outside. He kept coming back. One day we saw him with a girlfriend. He withdrew from us and was able to return to the wild.

We really don’t know what others have experienced growing up, but it’s well documented that lack of love is formed from previous abuse and not to say that treating people like that is acceptable, they do have a duty to get help, but it’s their own pain coming through. We know this personally. You never know how much "wild" you will get in your squirrel, but on average the boys are friendlier. I love my squirrel, but definitely have learned what you can and cannot do around her. If you do get one, just know that they all start out sweet and cuddly, but can change when they get older. Did you even bother to watch the video? Because I don't think you did. If you had watched the video you would know this Is Lizzy and Brian NOT MARK LONGO.

You could try to adopt an injured or disabled one. The ones that wouldn’t be able to survive in the wild.

How are they different than cats and dogs or any other animal regarded as pets?
I mean, we surely have to be careful that not the same neglect/abandonment problems ensue as with those pets. Maybe the whole 'pet industry' is an inevitable problem once humans follow their want for a pet. Maybe the cat-and-dog world is a practical warning sign to not do it with further species. - Humility practice. Serving instead of ruling.

@Adam Jensen - I don't see much of whatever that "domestication" is supposed to have done. But I see pets with all kinds of different personalities and aims, cats who never want to go outside and are all cuddly as well as cats who want to roam wild in the neighborhood. The same will apply to all kinds of animals, and their choice or origin of habitat may already convey a tendency there. Humans are animals, and in this variety of personality and outlook very much like any animal.

@Adam Jensen They didn't say anything at all about "not knowing" what the meaning of the word domestication is. What I heard them say (agree or disagree) is that they don't see much evidence that the domestication of cats and dogs somehow is playing quite so overriding and massive a role -- making this totally entirely different with dogs/cats from other animals as potential pets -- as is often and generally supposed.

@@hb-youtube Countless videos on YT about the difference between wild dogs and domesticated ones. That was a rather dumb post of Dowlphwin.
