We decided to drop this video a little earlier than planned, since we will have some Gen 2 sample packs available at RMAC. The .22 cal Gen 2s are on their way to the US as we speak, with .25 and .30 coming soon!

Hi Matt. You know what? I took a tiny Allen key and cut it into small chunks without overheating the treated tool steel. The chunks were like 1mm thick and 2mm long. hen I made a tiny drop of superglue inside the hollow point and then I placed the steel chunk inside. It was a .25 Nielsen slug, it almost lost all of the hole depth. Started to fly as consistently as I was patient while making it and not deformed anything.
I took the car doors and with roughly 70 joules I punched a big hole in it from the distance of 50m. I used 29, 26.8, 30, and 32 grains slugs. I'm sure it was not balanced at all but man! What an effect in penetration. Expanding is still out there. I checked it on 100m and the groups are 2x the size of regular but the trash bin made of steel does not stand a chance!
      Cheers!
      😀

I’m a physicist that did my masters on the magnetohydrodynamics of the solar wind hitting into the earths magnetic field. Tons of super interesting mathematics used there that were built on the aerodynamic physics from the 60s. Fascinating to see the same effects in ballistics.
I’ve watched your vids since 2018, and you’ve finally convinced me to get a proper airgun (Maverick) and some of your slugs to take to my local range. Thanks for the content, love seeing the tough math and work that goes into new product development.

I dont know Matt. If anyone else had made a film about something that seems as mundane as airgun slugs, I doubt I would've been able to make it to the end. Looking to this guy history, he started educational series, excellent ones, then runs a business started with doing ads to FX airgun, then developed Element scopes and the remaining part was a slug and here you go a complete airgun business cycle. But he makes ppl happy with latest tech and done his own busniss right. Clever guy and Thnx Matt.

Totally enjoyed this "documentary" and very excited to get my hands on some .25 Patriot Javelin slugs. There has to be a point reached where a slug is a slug is a slug and its exciting that the industry isn't there yet. There is certainly a lot of effort that goes into manufacturing such high quality product. It puts me in mind of custom benchrest centrefire projectiles. Outstanding guys, truly outstanding.

What a really great video program. I thought it was going to be a bit boring and wasn’t feeling very sleepy so thought I’d watch it. I was pleasantly surprised, it was very interesting and really showed off all of your talents. Proving if people have an interest in things and want to work together as a team and get along well together it can be done. Obviously you had some great testing facilities and help along the way but well done guys. I’m really impressed I will have to try and get a fire arms certificate if I want to shoot any though. As here in the UK we’re held back from shooting air rifles unlike most of the rest of the world to a measly 12ft lb or 16 joules. Without a FAC, but it does give me an incentive to try an obtain one so I can get a more powerful PCP and use your fantastic slugs. I enjoyed watching, thank you.

As an American, I can lay hands on just about anything in the world of firearms, but these new FX rifles are on another level. To be able to shoot .30 slugs out to 150m is incredible, and they still have energy at that range! It is a testament to all of your hard work, and I almost dare not ask if you will be stepping into the 9mm and .357 projectiles next. Here in the US, people still think that airgun = BB gun, and until they shoot one, they dismiss it out of hand. What I’m excited for next is to see what an air pistol can be with these projectiles.

39:05 Nail on the head, Just by chance a friend messed up and ordered the wrong pellets, and because of this it became evident the diameter was ultimately responsible. I then found these TTS pellet resizers, and the only one that was available was 5.50. I ordered it, it was an absolute game changer for shooting slugs. It's too small to fix pellet inconsistencies for me but what it does for the slugs, for me, is earth shattering. 1 thousandth larger and it's game over!

I've been trying to get a clear recommendation, for the FX Superior and Superior Heavy liners, are the .217 or .218 slugs preferred? Given FX's consistency, I figure one of those sizes was aimed at FX barrels.
Second, when (if?) can we get our hands on that magical .25 caliber slug liner you teased??
Thank you for all your work!

    • @AirArmsHuntingSA
      @AirArmsHuntingSA  2 роки тому +3

.218 is normally more accurate. But you also lose more velocity through friction. So if your barrel shoots .217” well, stick with .217”

@@AirArmsHuntingSA I picked up some 23gr .217s and they definitely do not shoot well out of my 600mm superior liner (Maverick). They actually shoot faster than the FX Hybrids (which do shoot well) at the same settings, which tells me they're looser in the barrel. They just spray at 25 yds. So I'm glad you've got the .218 option, I think I'll give them a try soon.

Got the 23 gr .218s today (gen 1) and they are spot on. They shoot the same speed as the hybrids. I think these will be my new lightweight slug in the Maverick, until the gen 2s are available.

Making history, i have yet to stake the jump into pcp airguns but i am starting to narrow down my options for a starting rifle. FX Dreamline is on the top of that list currently with the Diana k98 being a close second. Will be used for pest/rodent control but would eventually love to use a larger caliber for deer hunting

I love this video Matt! The information, quality, and editing is excellent (couple little audio issues but I can overlook that...for now :) ). I am curious as to why the .357 slugs never get any love? Are the .357 air rilfes just not in enough demand, due to inaccuracy, or some other reason?

.357” is great, but I think our goal right now is more to create slugs that can be used in smallbore “standard power” airguns. There are quite a few ammo companies that have bigger calibers well covered already.
