I was speechless when my dad told me Arnie was the governor of California when I was young. I thought he was messing with me. This guy really did just whatever he wanted and succeeded in all of it. Such a huge role model.
The crazy thing is he never reached his bodybuilding potential. He was like 28 when he first retired in 74. Guys compete into their 40s now..he never hit his prime. Just imagine.
David Simpson and in the 80's knowledge about food training, gear etc was not like nowdays imagine with everything together what he could accomplish more with his amazing physique..
Welcome to the jungle yeah crazy thing is he was like 28 in 74. Guys are competing into their 40s now. He wasn’t even prime age yet. Still developing. It’s sad because we never saw him at his best possible.
Arnold best upper body and second in legs, on stage at 1980 Mr Olympia. Even though not in his prime, still overwhelmed the rest on stage in size. The pictures don't lie. The others on stage look like little kids, standing next to Arnold. It didn't matter if most say it was fixed or not. There were four others ahead of Mike, and the only one Mike could put blame on was Arnold having a ace in his pocket to win. This doesn't hide the fact of Mike being mediocre on stage that night. He should have placed outside of the top six, with what he brought.
Any one who in their right mind thinks that Chris Dickerson in perfect shape had a chance against any version of Arnold needs a reality check!! He was so way ahead of the competition! Even Lee Haney who by the way idolized Arnold throughout his career said in the video(Battle for Gold) that Arnold was way ahead of his competition and he also said :”Even if they would compare Arnold with the competition today in the late late 80s he would still be far ahead of them) Thanks for the video of the Oak.
Not just one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time! He is one of the most successful people ever, his life and his accomplishments are always motivating and inspiring. Strong body, brilliant mind and, of course, always charismatic.
Those pics of the most muscular and then mountain pose at the end are just out of this world. When he said in the PI film that he had everything down to a point, he wasn't kidding..
Got into weightlifting about a month ago and came across your channel via recommendations. You create high quality content at a rapid pace, keep it up.
In His Autobiography" The Education of a Bodybuilder" Arnold Said One of these Men. was a HOMOSEXUAL, And Tricked him Because he wanted to SLEEP with ARNOLD
Wesley Vissers, Calum, Cbum.... everyone is trying to make a comparison between these guys and Arnold, but in reality no bodybuilder will ever come close
where u bigger, leaner or stronger then the other people in ur age before u hit the gym? is your muscle bellies full and long for your strength? (look up 5 people witht he same strength as u and look at their size and compare to the avg) and do u build muscle faster then other people?(or atleast decently fast)
I’ve been training for over a decade and watching UA-cam fitness for years but I haven’t heard of Arnold Schwarzenegger before. I haven’t seen him on any magazine covers either?
Is definitely one of the better documentaries I seen on him and I'm surprised how well you cover his information in like less than 14 minutes and press of my friend keep up the good work
STILL TO THIS DAY, ALL THE STANDING IN LINE PICS OF ARNOLD AND THE REST OF THE 80 MR O GUYS, HE STILL LOOKS BETTER, EVEN ZANE HAD A BIGGER CHEST THAN MIKE. THE GUY WHO GOT SCREWED IN PLACINGS WAS CALLENDAR.
I thought he deserved the 1980 Olympia as well. After all he was competing against the other guys on the stage not against himself 5 years before this is something people seem to forget. Arnold looked great on that day!
Arnold is one of the most influent guys to bodybuilding midia, he as an actor influenced so many teens to work out like Cedric and Brandon Hendrickson and imagine how their lives would be without this man on their lives ? Gym-world guys like Arnold reaching too success is something so difficult to do nowadays!
I already new all this information but really enjoyed this video anyway. I think what Arnie does best and that not a lot of people talk about is his motivational speaking. Some of his interviews are just inspiring to say the least
Nice mini doc. He’s definitely one of a kind, and icon well beyond bodybuilding. Pick your sport through time and you’ll find those who rose above and became true icons in life. Some of these were before my time. Others, like Arnold , rise right in front of us as we live through history.
People could say his not the best, but he is for shure the most influent bodybuilder in history, the man who turn popular this sport, thanks Arnald, and thank you Nick for the video. It´s allways a pleasure to see videos about him.
I love this channel. When I first started watching videos in this channel, I was not very sure how a guy talking about stuff with a picture slide show had these many subscribers. But after watching a lot of videos , and subscribing to the channel I realized this is one of the best UA-cam channel for aspiring bodybuilders. All the best
Nick I'm not even that big of a bodybuilding fan, I'm a powerlifter, but your videos genuinely interest me in the bodybuilding culture, history, and content. Keep up the good work, I always like when your videos come out
I can remember lining up outside the theater to see Conan The Barbarian. Man, we LOVED it!, Arnold was well on his way to bein' an action hero after that one goofy movie. I'll bet that sales of weight sets went through the roof after Conan...and loin cloths. Like or hate him, controversy or no, Arnold was pivotal for the popularity of body building. He has been the #1 ambassador for all things weight training and he still is, a true living legend who's legacy will live on forever. As always Nick this is top quality content objective with actual facts accompanied with excellent images. That's your style man! I really dig these "back in time" pieces that you put together Nick, it would far-out if you could give one a week. ...........................PEACE!!
Very well done mini documentary. I enjoyed that you provided history on him after he stopped competing in bodybuilding as well. Arnold has definitely been a driving force for Bodybuilding. Who knows where it would be had it not been championed by probably the most charismatic bodybuilder of all time. Being a super star in the movies and then using that star power to further promote the sport by starting a bodybuilding championship with his name attached was probably one of the biggest jumps for bodybuilding popularity. The brand new Classic physique in the Mr. Olympia was, I think, heavily inspired by his words on modern bodybuilding a few years ago. As stated in your own video average people were becoming wholly uninterested in Men's Open. He was right and by bringing in Classic physique and several other divisions has brought more people back to Bodybuilding. While Arnold himself was in bad shape 5 or 6 years ago, he definitely seems to have gotten himself into much better shape for a 70 year old man.
Hi Nick, thank you so much for all of your videos. I really like how knowledgeable you are and how in-depth you get with so much detail on all of your topics. You are never just one-sided but look at whatever you are talking about from all sides. Looking forward to watching and learning more.
Arnold has inspired more people to Bodybuilding than anyone else on the planet! So I have traveled all over the world and always train at a local gym the poster that is in most of the gyms is of Arnold!
Love the BB history vids, man some of these famous guys were damn inspiring. Thanks for the history, and for making videos worth spending my time watching. Rock on Brother !!
Arnold was The King Of Bodybuilding in the '70's. He just was. For you young guys who compare him with today's pro bodybuilders, you are missing the point. He was the biggest, the baddest, and the best for his time. When I started training 40 years ago, Arnold was the benchmark that we were all trying to emulate. Many people found his personality abrasive, but you had to respect his accomplishments. The reason he could pull off playing Conan the Barbarian is because he looked athletic as well, unlike today's champions.
Great mini documentary. It'd be cool to see a video on Reg Park. I believe he was known to be one of Arnold's bodybuilding mentors/inspirations and he had a great physique.
Nick thank you.. this was awesomeness. Please do more, on other guys. I would like to know what Arnold would look like now with all gears, knowledge and his mindset.
Roids weren't as good back then
Yes that is fuckin sad he could have been much bigger
He’d be a mountain
Could have had 10 olympias easily, if not more
Arnold is the best and always will be. You can’t beat 1974 Arnold. Pure perfection. You can be bigger yes, but never better. Impossible.
Welcome to the jungle did you just hear yourself?
Welcome to the jungle yeah crazy thing is he was like 28 in 74. Guys are competing into their 40s now. He wasn’t even prime age yet. Still developing. It’s sad because we never saw him at his best possible.
Cowboy Flame ....yes and it makes sense. Bigger isn’t better. What don’t you understand ?
David Simpson ....I believe 1975 would’ve been better than 74 if it wasn’t for the movie “stay hungry” which he had to lose lots of muscle weight for.
Hard to argue with you on that!!
He is the most intelligent bodybuilder of all times.
shashank gupta well,Nasser el Sonbaty knew 7 languages
dorian
I think Mike Mentzer was the most intelligent.
His IQ is said to be tested at 135. 140 is the start of genius- puts everything into perspective.
shashank gupta
More like the most scheming and ruthlessly ambitious.
Imagine if we all walked around with Arnolds physique
Arnold best upper body and second in legs, on stage at 1980 Mr Olympia. Even though not in his prime, still overwhelmed the rest on stage in size. The pictures don't lie. The others on stage look like little kids, standing next to Arnold. It didn't matter if most say it was fixed or not. 100% correct. Mentzer was a crybaby
Any one who in their right mind thinks that Chris Dickerson in perfect shape had a chance against any version of Arnold needs a reality check!! He was so way ahead of the competition! Even Lee Haney who by the way idolized Arnold throughout his career said in the video(Battle for Gold) that Arnold was way ahead of his competition and he also said :”Even if they would compare Arnold with the competition today in the late late 80s he would still be far ahead of them)
Thanks for the video of the Oak.
"Who some consider the best bodybuilder of all time." CORRECTION = "The best bodybuilder of all time."
He surely was not the biggest, but by far the most aesthetic!
The reason I started working out...40 years later I'm still training...huge influence on my life
The history of bodybuilding is Arnold. Everything else is a footnote.
Videos like this is why you’re the best source of bodybuilding videos on UA-cam
No bubble gut. And half the drugs. Pretty fukin impressive
Just remember, protein and creatine is not a drug.
Protein and creatine are not drugs but decca and dianabol are!
Arnold is such and inspiration. His tenacity to be on top was unmatched.
Got into weightlifting about a month ago and came across your channel via recommendations. You create high quality content at a rapid pace, keep it up.
Arnold is the greatest NUFF SAID!! Only BIG LENNY is in the same league as him!!
Swedish Wiking ! Aka the tom platz of abs
Ronnie Coleman????
Agree #Tomplatzofabs is King as well
Big who?
In His Autobiography" The Education of a Bodybuilder" Arnold Said One of these Men. was a HOMOSEXUAL, And Tricked him Because he wanted to SLEEP with ARNOLD
Wesley Vissers, Calum, Cbum.... everyone is trying to make a comparison between these guys and Arnold, but in reality no bodybuilder will ever come close
have you actually checked out Wesleys channel? He has serious karisma and demands respect
simon12332 I don't think he was shit talking wesley, he's just giving Arnold that much praise
Michael Salzle I think Wesley Vissers in his prime (in about 5-7 years) will be one Bodybuilder with a hell of a legacy
Gregg Popovich You're a douche. Smfh
Make a video on how you can know if you have good genetics for bodybuilding. (muscle bellies, insertions, etc)
where u bigger, leaner or stronger then the other people in ur age before u hit the gym? is your muscle bellies full and long for your strength? (look up 5 people witht he same strength as u and look at their size and compare to the avg) and do u build muscle faster then other people?(or atleast decently fast)
BimmerKing look at Vitruvian physique's series on genetics
Great Series!
If you have to ask...
YES
What a shape! I don’t see any controversy in 1980. He still was the most pleasing shape
I’ve been training for over a decade and watching UA-cam fitness for years but I haven’t heard of Arnold Schwarzenegger before. I haven’t seen him on any magazine covers either?
Wow. So interesting. I have to say your narration is really good. Timbre, cadence, and inflection is spot-on. You have a real nack for this.
VERY WELL DONE. FANTASTIC WORK AS ALWAYS.
Is definitely one of the better documentaries I seen on him and I'm surprised how well you cover his information in like less than 14 minutes and press of my friend keep up the good work

I thought he deserved the 1980 Olympia as well. After all he was competing against the other guys on the stage not against himself 5 years before this is something people seem to forget. Arnold looked great on that day!
Arnold deserved his win at the 80 Olympia.

Arnold is one of the most influent guys to bodybuilding midia, he as an actor influenced so many teens to work out like Cedric and Brandon Hendrickson and imagine how their lives would be without this man on their lives ? Fantastic video. Probably one of the best short documentary makers out there, Was intrigued throughout.
Arnold is art, it's as simple as that.
1974 Arnold was as good as it gets. History making dominance.

shashank gupta wahmen*

Black Lit. Black Hist. His penis

Long time coming nick, thanks for this
Would be sick if you can make a history series of all mr Olympia’s
nice snapshot of his life.
Thanks for your videos. Always informative. I just had a kid and put on a ton of fat. When I watch these stories they give inspiration.
Some great insights especially on Busek in Joe’s ear to get Arnold over to the states. Great stuff Nick!
