Love the tip about dropping the shaft onto the thigh for getting the right stance position from the ball. I've been playing for 48 years and have never heard that tip!
Between the videos posted by you and Rick, my game has gone from averaging 110 to sub-100 in the past two months. Can’t thank you two enough for the free lessons.
Matt, I’ve been back 6months after a 15yr injury break, your videos have been amazing I’ve gone from slicing everything to being able to hit driver 260-285yds. Putting is letting me down but working on it. Appreciate all the vids
I’m a 12.4 handicap. My secret: get a driver. At 12+ degrees with a 3-wood length (43.5”). Give up the 15 yards, but add back five yards because you’re going to use a hot ball (Titleist Velocity, etc). So you’re in the fairway constantly 10 yards back and hitting one more club into the green.
Best video I have ever seen on this after watching hours on this topic. Simple, clear explanation, great visuals. Very impressed and subscribed. Thank you!
Matt. This is the best lesson I've seen in ages. I'm playing tomorrow (snow permitting)and will put these checks in place. I've been struggling a bit with driver. I let you know how I get on.
Bloody great lesson Matt, especially giving us permission to hit the driver badly! Also distance from ball, this is something that I don't think I've ever known how to do, I've just used feel. So really nice guideline for us to use. Thanks mate, glad I finally subscribed :-)
Hi Matt, clear and concise. My 3 wood and driver go the same distance and this probably explains the problem with my driver. Will be working on this on the range at the weekend
Nice simple tips, liked the check for driver stance distance from ball. I'm always struggling to find the right distance and it's really key for me to get it right. 👍
Thanks Matt great content as always! I went and played around today shot a 103 which is now my consistent score, but I took today on as if I was just going to have fun, I hit way more straight fairway shots than I ever have and it's all credit to the advice that you and your colleagues give about setup, swing and follow through. I now have a pre shot routine which probably drives my partner nuts but it's working for me! Now I just need to work on my short game, struggled badly today with my chip shots and my chances for hitting greens on second shots. I still have a long way to go but I don't calculate any handicap in my score if I did it probably would have been just over par! Please keep doing videos I have learned so much and now I am starting to get it and apply it. I am very thankful that this is what you have decided to do with your talent for teaching!
I do not have a wood at the moment (but a driver 😊) and your tips are helping every time. Will try this at the range this week. Thanks for sharing your advice
Thanks Matt - teaching my 5yr old and really focusing on setup so they get it without thinking. This will help massively. Hitting their driver over the 60yd mark and pushing for 70yd tomorrow now :) Can’t wait to try it myself tomorrow too
Nice tips matt, heard you say about that 2 inch above the knee thing just before I last played, that helped a lot as I sometimes wondered if I'd got to close or was reaching slightly 👍🏻👍🏻
This was a brilliant one for me, thank you Matt. You will be familiar with the colour coding of tees that are already set up at the right height. I am not confident with a white tee for driving. I have been known to get underneath it a bit, which isn't great for the club. So I am using the pink tee to drive off. For the 3 or fairway wood I am using the blue tee, which has been okay. Looking at your setup here, I should maybe use the little green stubby tee, that I use for Irons. Even with the 1 inch in front of center stance idea I can't hit a 3 wood off of the deck, so I use a hybrid for fairaways. . It looks like I have to be off of the lead heel for ball position with the 3 wood as well. Thanks for this one.
Many thanks Matt, I’m new to golf and between you and Rick I’m certainly embarrassing myself less on the course since subscribing to both your channels 👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for the tip! I've been doing that half a ball over the club for a while which has done wonders. The ball placement on the tee is definitely my issue watching it so thank you! Now only if I can figure out how to hit it out of the fairway.
Thanks Matt, really helpful lesson, hit my 3 wood further than my driver at the minute, will use these pointers tomorrow on the range, hope you had a great Christmas mate!
Matt, question. When lining driver sweet spot up behind the ball, do you hover it a bit or leave it on the ground? Seems to be the latter. I find when I line it up with the head on the ground I get more heel hits. Excellent video.
Based on a previous vlog of yours, I know I should take a 3-wood off the tee for a number of holes at my local course. This vlog will be a great help in 2021 when I play these holes. Cheers Matt!
Not got or ever had a 3 wood. I used to use a 4 wood (Dunlop Blue Flash ... how old am I?) before I grew confident with driver. I have a gap between driver and 3 (19 degree) hybrid, so might get a 3 or 5 wood I think.. need a gapping sesh.. great content young man, keep them coming.
Great video Matt, I've noticed that when I have the ball further forward in my stance I always hook the ball left, maybe something to do with my swing but if I put the ball in a similar position to my 3wood I hit it straight. Maybe just how it works for me haha!
Hey Matt what do you think of these adjustable tees that you can change the height. Would these be a good thing to try and mark them for driver woods and irons?
Great video - This is exactly what i was practicing at the driving range yesterday. Glad i was doing it right. I was also practicing hitting irons with a full swing length but at a slower speed for control, rather than going all out for max distance - will this help my game Matt?
I definitely need to work on my driver swing. This past Saturday I used my 3 wood because my driving has become so inconsistent. Plus my 3 wood on average is 5 to 10 yard shorter than my good drives. So I need to work on that.
Those alignment lines you're drawing, look just as accurate as the offside line the VAR's draw in the Premier League... ;) BTW, good informative video!
"For any club in my bag." I struggle to find the proper distance to stand away from the ball. THANK YOU! I'm heading out to my range now to try that lay the club grip on the thigh trick.
I haven't had a 3 wood in the bag for years because I can use a driver and hit different lengths and am pretty accurate. I have recently acquired a new 3 wood and I am going to give it a chance, but I don't know when to actually pull it. My bag currently goes from Driver to 2 iron. I guess I have to pay more attention to see if there is any noticeable gap.
If you still use a 2 iron, you’d be good enough to hit a 3 wood from the fairway and gain a good distance on long par 5s eventually reaching the green in two.
I love my 3 wood. Hit it out the tee box more often than my driver. I can get better shaping and control over my 3 wood. But every once in a while you just need to tee it high, and let her fly. Nothing beats a brilliant driver though
The difference i see between my driver and 3 wood is about 20 yards of distance and 100 yards of dispersion, the driver goes everywhere except straight.
Love the tip about dropping the shaft onto the thigh for getting the right stance position from the ball. I've been playing for 48 years and have never heard that tip!
Great vid Matt. Could you maybe do one on the difference between fairway woods & hybrids off the deck.
Between the videos posted by you and Rick, my game has gone from averaging 110 to sub-100 in the past two months. Can’t thank you two enough for the free lessons.
Handsdown best coach on youtube. 💯%
Excellent video. Come here to find the difference in clubs and went away with so much more. 👍
Thank you for this information. As a beginner, you answered my questions for wood and driver explicitly. i now have a good grip to move forward.
Brilliant. Thanks Matt. Practical, easy to follow advice that I can't wait to take to the range and course. Appreciate the time.

well done, that's really impressive!
I absolutely love your teaching method.

Big help Matt. Thank you very much.
Best booth in Trafford golf centre right there
Some great pointers I have always been meaning to ask. Thanks Matt.
Stay Safe.
Beautifully explained
Great video Matt. Many thanks.
Happy New Year Matt, excellant tip thx, looking forward to more videos in 2021.

Fantastic video Matt
Great video again. Thank you for all your content! Happy new year.
Excellent tip Matt, just what I needed, happy new year to you and family
Thanks for the pointers Matt, I need to get to the range and give this a try.
Matt. This is the best lesson I've seen in ages. I'm playing tomorrow (snow permitting)and will put these checks in place. I've been struggling a bit with driver. I let you know how I get on.
Enjoy the game hope it helps
Another great video thanks Matt
Another great video Matt look forward to getting to my local range and trying it out
Great tips
Very good tips I will give it a try
Awesome hope it works

Thanks Matt loved the tip about distance away from the ball. Always been told it looks like I'm reaching for it, will give this a try
Nice im going to try a few things i see you do good pointers
As Always , lovely tips from you. Wishing a very healthy New year, from Germany,
Cheers Matt will try this out next time on the range
Hope it helps you 🤙
Love the vids matt
Happy new year to all! Stay safe
Great overall lesson!
Thanks Matt. the lesson and tips always help me refine my game. Now its back to the driving range i go.
Gr8 vlog as usual Matt definitely need a few pointers on driver of the T thanks alot Happy new year pal
Great tips Matt! You’re are making it very clear for the coming golfer. I’ll try that out tmrw!!!
Hi Matt, clear and concise. My 3 wood and driver go the same distance and this probably explains the problem with my driver. Will be working on this on the range at the weekend
Cracking lesson mate! Love it!
Great video many thanks
My pleasure
Great vid! Thanks Matt!
My pleasure
Spot on content. I appreciate you adding that we need to be patient with ourselves as we learn to hit the big sticks. 👍
Same :-)
Very good but could you show me a similar setup for hitting the woods off the ground
Great video Matt!
Thank you
Nice simple tips, liked the check for driver stance distance from ball. I'm always struggling to find the right distance and it's really key for me to get it right. 👍
This is great! I need to practice this each time I go out and warm up on the range.
Love that tip on the distance you should be from the ball
Great vid Matt, will try that as soon I get back on the driving range!
Awesome, hope it helps
More great tips matt.
Short course in winter great place to practice 3 woods crime the tee happy new year Matt
Happy new year to you too

is it the same set up for the 3 wood off the deck please

Great video, what are your thoughts on teeing off with hybrids
Good if it works for you
Thanks Matt, love the straight forward lessons! Can't wait to see what you have in store for 2021
Good tip on finding tee height, and the correct reach.:)
Thanks for the tip! I've been doing that half a ball over the club for a while which has done wonders. The ball placement on the tee is definitely my issue watching it so thank you! Now only if I can figure out how to hit it out of the fairway.

Hi Matt - would this apply to all fairway woods? I use a 7 wood off the tee and think I might be teeing the ball too low
Matt, question. When lining driver sweet spot up behind the ball, do you hover it a bit or leave it on the ground? Seems to be the latter. I find when I line it up with the head on the ground I get more heel hits. Excellent video.
I like it, I struggle with this sort of swing. Does this work for hybrids also?
Yeah you could follow this off a tee with a hybrid, just only just on the up
Based on a previous vlog of yours, I know I should take a 3-wood off the tee for a number of holes at my local course. This vlog will be a great help in 2021 when I play these holes.
Cheers Matt!
Shaft position is key on these shots. 😊😊
It’s the main difference, I find, between hitting a slice or a hook.
Great Stuff , struggle with 3 wood. Hit 5 wood wel tho, perplexing!
Great tips! Appreciate it!
Glad they help

Not seem them tbh

Good work

This really helps with my 3 wood off the tee... well at least I think so, its snowing in the Midwest US so we will see in a month or two.
Yep same here hopefully it's gone soon!
Matt, just wanted to tell you that your videos have gotten so much better. Cheers buddy!
Rick just did a video from the same bay.
He stole my bay!!!
I like the 2” above the knee cap trick for distance setup, I have never heard that truck before 👌🏽👌🏽
How does that compare to a 3 wood off the deck?
Do you recommend heavier shafts in 3 woods, compared to driver? For example, 60g for driver and 70/80g for 3 wood?
Yes
What do you do if you are popping up your drives sometimes
Look at your angle of attack prob steep and leading to the high strike.
Any other way to know where i hit my ball? Cant seem to find the dr scholls foot spray in Mexico :( any DIY idea?
You can put chalk on the back of the ball or just draw a line on the ball with marker pen and hit it whilst still wet
Spray to remove stains from clothes works too.
@@Mattfryergolf thank you both!
If only I could try this out on a course - been shut for weeks due to rain.
Those alignment lines you're drawing, look just as accurate as the offside line the VAR's draw in the Premier League... ;)
BTW, good informative video!
"For any club in my bag." I struggle to find the proper distance to stand away from the ball. THANK YOU! I'm heading out to my range now to try that lay the club grip on the thigh trick.
I know right? That was gold!
I use the 3 wood a lot on tight hole to still get length and control
I dont often bring out the note pad while watching videos lol, Thanks Matt
Love a 3 wood.. except today on the course, when I topped it straight into muddy wet patch 20 yards from the 15th tee. 😱
Happens to the best of us....just ask Shiels
I can relate
The more I play the less I feel I need a driver. A good 3 wood shot always in play will never be a bad thing even if you are 20 yards shorter.
What make is the top you're wearing
On his left arm seems to be the same logo as on his cap which is mizuno
Cheers
Mizuno apparel

Yeah give it a go and see where it fits in
If you still use a 2 iron, you’d be good enough to hit a 3 wood from the fairway and gain a good distance on long par 5s eventually reaching the green in two.
I love my 3 wood. Hit it out the tee box more often than my driver. I can get better shaping and control over my 3 wood. But every once in a while you just need to tee it high, and let her fly. Nothing beats a brilliant driver though
You're right about that
Just watched ricks vid were you too there at the same time your both in the same bay
Matt would it be fair to say that you place a little more weight on the front foot with 3 wood than driver? Say 70/30 as with hybrid.
Probably the first time in a while Matt has had to use shampoo 😂😂😂
I hit my 3 wood substantially further than my driver - any advice?
The difference i see between my driver and 3 wood is about 20 yards of distance and 100 yards of dispersion, the driver goes everywhere except straight.
Haha well stick.at it and you'll get it
100 yards of dispersion had me dead! 🤣
