Great vid Rick, really like the videos where you give tips rather than review.. I was thinking maybe a good video for the future would be how you adjust your set up and swing due to uneven lies, for example ball below, ball above, down hill and uphill lies
First way to use your hybrid: hit the ball Second way: self defense Third way: reaching something that’s too high Fourth way: pretend like you’re good at golf Last way: actually get good at golf
I saw this video this morning and used it this afternoon. Bump and run as well as replacing my 3-iron for rescue shots worked very nicely! Thanks Rick!
of all your videos rick, this one is one of my favorites. the bump and run is one of my favorites, especially when i’m 30-40 yards out and can just run the ball up onto the green.
So I watched this video, but didn’t think much of it, until o found myself under trees, with a pretty long shot ahead of me still. Tried holding it like a putter, and choking up on the grip, now it’s my favourite way to use the rescue. This video was a VERY good thing to know.
Good idea using it in a bunker and Divot, always used my hybrids from a rough lie/in the rough. Love the idea of using the hybrid in a putting stroke, maybe can use that rather than a De lofted 4 iron, keep the good stuff coming, thanks Rick
Thanks very much Rick! I remembered your tip about using the hybrid in a shallow fairway bunker...was able to rocket the my ball out of the bunker and save an extra stroke!
Great advice & options Rick. I've been procrastinating about getting a Titleist H1 and this video has just convinced me that it's a must have now. Keep up the informative vlogs, cheers.
You forgot the into the wind stinger off the tee, and the clean lie, in the fairway to the green. I love my 23 degree hybrid. It has replaced my 3 iron and I can effectively use it as my 4 iron replacement as well for those times I want to play a 5th wedge in my bag.
Good tips. I'm a senior golfer and simply do not have the strength I once had. So 3-6 irons have been replaced with 4 hybrids. Seven iron is my longest iron now. Been playing with some small head Adams hybrids but got new Callaway Rogue X on the way. Looking forward to trying those and will use for various shots as RS described.
Hybrids really need to be utilized by more players in modern golf in these ways, the guys on tours will use them around greens yet amateurs rarely pull them out of the bag. I think there's a wrong stigma about hybrids being for higher handicaps but that's silly, they're such a versatile club & I'm sure guys like Bobby Jones would've used them often given the chance
Are you now gaming a hybrid? I have an original TM rocketballz 22 degree, it’s an absolute beast. I’ve just taken the 19 out of the bag to replace with a Gapr mid for a low option.
Great video and very practical tips. I've played a 19° Ping G30 hybrid for the last couple of years and love it. The new Cobra F9 fairway wood impressed me so much though that I'm going to try out the F9 hybrid soon on course and see how it stacks up against my Ping. Should be a fun test.
Me and 5 friends play a lot of "two" club challenge for sh*ts and giggles. (Plus it's a great change to walk the course just carrying a single club in each hand!) They all use a putter and a mid iron while i use the hybrid and nine iron. Playing with a full bag I generally score better than only one or two of my buddies but not only do i rarely lose the "challenge" i have beaten my regular score a number of times.
I borrowed a Taylormade rescue 3 today. Never used a hybrid before. I have 3 wood I use. But I am not so good with my i3 and i4 so this should take that place(according to the guy I borrowed it from). Doubt I would use it for the chip shots because it seems to me hard to control. I noticed a lot of weight( in the rescue) so I rather take my i8 for that type of shot. I would love to try that bunker shot with it which you hit perfect btw....and also getting back to the fairway with that stinger type of shot but I want more D....why go "just" back to the fairway if I can get 100 yards up the fairway? It is not always my best decision but if it works...;-)
Hi Rick, this is a great video and very useful, love the way you explain things so sensibly and fully, and also when you hit a naff shot you admit it. Would you suggest a 3 hybrid could do the same job?
I normally use a seven on a tight lie bump and run. I'm going to try the hybrid. I have to give him points for giving solid excellent advise for the amateur and weekend warrior. Something other pro instructors would shake their head at.
I love my hybrid. I use it on the t box and get really straight 200 yard hits then I use it mostly again to go down the fairway or try and drive the green
My own personal rule for chipping w the hybrid... use about ~1/2 the power/back swing that you would for a putter. The hybrids are low weighted and have a very springy (is that a word?) face so they do jump off the face quick vs a putter. My two cents...
I have a mizuno jpx 900 that I mostly play off 16*. I use mine for par 5s too because it's easier for me to hit them most woods, especially if I need to take something off it. I have even hit it as little as 185 before. Stops quicker on the green than a wood for me. Also, let me drop my 3 and 4 irons and get another wedge in the bag. Since they are adjustable they are great for gapping too imo. Oh, easier to play a hook too if you need that shot around a tree from the woods. I don't like the term hybrid, they are more utility clubs than anything now
Has your hybrid got a flat bottom? 😲 I've had my Benross VeloCT hybrids for nearly eight years now and I'm not in a rush to change them. Maybe not the longest, but consistent and easy to use.
Rick how does the rails on the Cobra hybrid compare to other clubs for drag? I can see how it would reduce club head drag and I don't understand why other companies don't design them that way. Just curious thanks.
Rick what type of hybrid/recovery do you recommend for someone returning to the game after about 15-16 years away? Hybrids were still fairly novel when I stopped playing and I'm looking for recommendations for which hybrids to give a try? a 3H, 4H, 7H? I know little to nothing about any of them.
Glenmoor Golf Course on the 4th home there is a bunker in the middle of the Fairway that I seem to hit every time and I do use my hybrid for my second shot
Wow you have switched over to Cobra (driver and hybrid anyway) . I have done this for 2019 also. My Taylormade bag looks funny with all those Cobras in there. Lol!
Hybrids are the absolute best. I dont even use my irons anymore. You can buy many different lofted hybrids and they will fulfill the role of just about shot outside of a sandwedge/lobwedge.
Number 5 is so true. I used my 2-hybrid from 270 out from the rough and ended up 30 yards from the hole. (Update: I also tried all but the divot shot as I've never had that opportunity yet. The bump and run with the hybrid is great for expanding your expertise with touch and feel. The recovery shot is what lead to me getting birdie on a particular hole. And the Bunker shot left me 15 yards away from 240 out)
*Q.) What brand and loft of hybrid do you play?*
Rick Shiels Golf ping 23°
Wilson staff D7 19°. Got it acouple weeks ago

Great video Rick,
Greetings from Austria
Adams 19* Tight Lies. Been using it (and similar clubs over the years) as a "chipper" since forever.
Much prefer this type of vid to the 'lets see how far these drivers go, oh its the same'. Keep em coming Rick
1. Top it
2. Duff it
3. Slice it
4. Shank it
5. Admire it in the bag.
accurate (bar the 5th one)
So true
😂. Took me a while to learn it, now it’s my favorite club in my bag. Always can rely on it for any shape shot from 200-230 yards. Love it
You must have seen me play some where lol those are my 4 favorite shots man haha
That sounds like a Daft Punk song
Okay, these tips will help on the first hole, but how do i use it on the second?
Stu Pidas Rince and repeat. At least we will be pro with hybrid
LOL 😂😅. I feel ya
😂😂
Hahahaha
🤣🤣
Great vid Rick, really like the videos where you give tips rather than review.. I was thinking maybe a good video for the future would be how you adjust your set up and swing due to uneven lies, for example ball below, ball above, down hill and uphill lies
He’s done one before I think, have a look through his old videos 👍
First way to use your hybrid: hit the ball
Second way: self defense
Third way: reaching something that’s too high
Fourth way: pretend like you’re good at golf
Last way: actually get good at golf
Margie H perfect
I use mine to sweep out the balls I putt in my room from underneath my table. That's about it.
I must say buying my hybrid has been a great advantage in particular in chipping and getting out of the rough....thanks Rick.
That shot out of the fairway bunker was insane .
" don't be afraid to hot a little sand" picks it clean...
An excellent training video for someone, like myself, who finds it too difficult to put the hybrid to good use. Thank you.
I just got an Adams golf 5 hybrid. I'm excited to use your tips especially on the mid hole bunker and chip on the green
"Big flat bottom"....I don't think you said it enough lol. Great vid and tips!
So I watched this video, but didn’t think much of it, until o found myself under trees, with a pretty long shot ahead of me still. Tried holding it like a putter, and choking up on the grip, now it’s my favourite way to use the rescue. This video was a VERY good thing to know.

thanks for teaching me these tips Rick!
Great video as always. I will have to try the chip and run using a putting stroke
Totally agree Rick, l carry 5 Hybrids and use foe 2 - 4, as not enough practice near to the green.
Rick that was an excellent set of tips, many thanks....
Thanks again for helping me think out of the box golf great show
Thanks very much Rick! I remembered your tip about using the hybrid in a shallow fairway bunker...was able to rocket the my ball out of the bunker and save an extra stroke!
Got my Sim2 hybrid yesterday. Can’t wait to give it a go, thanks for this great tutorial your content is always on par...
Great advice Rick. I love your videos buddy, they are really helpful.
Great advice & options Rick. I've been procrastinating about getting a Titleist H1 and this video has just convinced me that it's a must have now. Keep up the informative vlogs, cheers.
Great video! So informative for a newbie like me.

awesome tips Rick. Thank you
Very informative! Thanks.
Great advice Rick will be using my hybrid a lot more thank you.
awesome video and great tips, will have to try those this year!!

Great tips Rick ! Love it.
Excellent video. Thanks .
I’ve always used a wedge out of a fairway bunker but cheers Rick, hopefully these great tips will lower my scores 🤞🏻
Cracking tips will definitely try these 👍
Very useful thank you
Will try that tomorrow ❤
Awesome information, thank you!!!!!
Great video, good usable tips!
Titleist 25 degree replaces my 4 and 5 iron tried lots of others which went low left but love this one.. Adams was also good
Are you now gaming a hybrid? I have an original TM rocketballz 22 degree, it’s an absolute beast. I’ve just taken the 19 out of the bag to replace with a Gapr mid for a low option.
Awesome video Rick. I'm guilty of being one dimensional with the hybrid, this info will help heaps. Cheers 🍻
Awesome job Rick
That was a awesome video I hv three hybrid and u did show me a couple ways I would hv never thought of.👍😃🏌🏼
I love my hybrids. I use them a lot now. I hit them better then my woods. And just as far.
Thanks, Rick. Much appreciated tips.
Excellent video, thanks Rick!
What a great video awesome information thanks

I don't know if I need any other clubs this thing does it all 😂

Ever try a foot wedge to get it out of the divot? Heard it's very effective!
I use Callaway 4 and 5 hybrid
Great vid rick , that will really help me on the course. Thanks.
I use a gapr lo adjusted to a 15.5 degree. Much easier to hit than a hybrid and much longer.
Great video Rick. I have a 1 length cobra hybrid, should be dead easy trying the bump and run. Top tips.
Very helpful
give us more instruction, great video
Excellent shot out of the divot.

Wilson Power Challenger 4 not sure of loft. Had it about 10-12 years & use it all the time
Hi Rick, this is a great video and very useful, love the way you explain things so sensibly and fully, and also when you hit a naff shot you admit it. Would you suggest a 3 hybrid could do the same job?

Nice video Rick, much prefer these to the club reviews
I love my hybrid. I use it on the t box and get really straight 200 yard hits then I use it mostly again to go down the fairway or try and drive the green
Moving to these Kobras would help my game. My Kobra Cavs are just too fat and heavy. I need more control.
Wilson Staff V6 forged in the bag Rick...have them ordered myself... lovely lovely club..
On the bump and run, how do you keep the but of the club hitting your side?
My own personal rule for chipping w the hybrid... use about ~1/2 the power/back swing that you would for a putter. The hybrids are low weighted and have a very springy (is that a word?) face so they do jump off the face quick vs a putter. My two cents...
Favorite club

Great video always get some great golf tips from Rick thanks mate keep up the great video's 😁
Well don’t I feel stupid? I had one in my bag and never used it so got rid 🥴 Seems it was the only club I needed 👍🏻 Thanks for the tips Rick 👏🏻
Great video Rick. This is fantastic information
Amassing Rick.
Rick, are you going to review the ping 410 crossover? I'd love to hear your thoughts on it.
Love using my hybrid to escape pesky tree lies amazingly consistent in saving me in a tough spot
Great video
Rick how does the rails on the Cobra hybrid compare to other clubs for drag? I can see how it would reduce club head drag and I don't understand why other companies don't design them that way. Just curious thanks.
Great video Rik superb and helpful I use mine alot

This vid is ace.
I'm inspired
Does it matter on the hybrids loft? (As in less loft is better than more loft? Or visa versa?)
So you could probably play a hole game with a hybrid but what one I would choose the 3 hybrid
Nice around the green top.... Just like a Lil chipper... Yeeeeeeooooohhhh
I like your channel. Any tips for golfing bears?
I can honestly say i use my f7 more around the green than anywhere else. Maybe my approaches need work
Bought this cobra 2 weeks ago for 100$ off and it’s already the best club in my bag.
Number 5 is so true.
I used my 2-hybrid from 270 out from the rough and ended up 30 yards from the hole.

Noticed you didn't use glove for shot 2 hitting back onto the fairway. Any reason for that Rick?
Which Nikeys are these you’re wearing Ricardo?
So a ball from a deep grassy lie has a tendency to go left ? Is this more often than not ? Can we look at the mechanics of this ?
Hey rick I have access to a GCQuad at my work what is your favorite course to play/practice on?
