I played today and used my hybrid a lot more after watching this video. I especially liked using it as a replacement for a wedge. I managed to get it on the green much easier than using my wedge. Thanks for bringing this to my attention rick
Just started golfing this past Father’s Day. Your videos have been a huge help for drills and strategies. Also helps that I am five minutes from the driving range so I can practice a few times a week.
First way to use your hybrid: hit the ball Second way: self defense Third way: reaching something that’s too high Fourth way: pretend like you’re good at golf Last way: actually get good at golf
Great vid Rick, really like the videos where you give tips rather than review.. I was thinking maybe a good video for the future would be how you adjust your set up and swing due to uneven lies, for example ball below, ball above, down hill and uphill lies
Nice to know I am not crazy with the amount of time I use my hybrids. My set came with a 4 and 5 hybrid and I added the 3. It definitely helps me on the shots into the green.
I got a Cobra King hybrid for an extra 50 bucks when I bought a guy’s Odyssey Exo 7 putter. Til then, I didn’t have a hybrid. I had no idea it would become the most valuable club in my bag.
New to golf here, been using a 26 degree hybrid recently, I stumbled across the “getting out of trouble” aspect of this club as it’s just a controlled putt/tap out the trees and the success rate is so much higher than me trying to do the same with an iron. I also use it for distances 130-160 as I’m struggling with my 7 iron and anything longer. I may add a couple more hybrids so I don’t have to adjust the swing speed as much to get consistent yardages. In short, just this one hybrid is making me play better golf :) Great video Rick I might start using it for bump and runs as I am very inconsistent with those using my irons
I saw this video this morning and used it this afternoon. Bump and run as well as replacing my 3-iron for rescue shots worked very nicely! Thanks Rick!
of all your videos rick, this one is one of my favorites. the bump and run is one of my favorites, especially when i’m 30-40 yards out and can just run the ball up onto the green.
super good / smart advice ! I'm very confident these tips will help lower my score a few strokes - I'm in all of those predicaments multiple times per round . Thank Rick ! FORE !!!
Great job Rick, It's about time somebody showed how to chip with a hybrid. Only thing to add is to keep the wrists loose to give it a little pop stroke. Got have relaxed hands. Currently 1, Taylormade M-2 19 degree.
Thank you Rick. Saw this video last week and used 3 out of your 5 tips out on the course today brilliantly. Question: In this video you didn’t really mention ball placement in your stance using the hybrid. Can you help with that?
Thank you for the tips Rick .... good tips & good idea using hybrid. I will try using it for putting, at the bunker, divot, fairway bunker & at the rough.... my maruman shuttle hybrid 3 is good for 175 to 170 meter distance.
Good idea using it in a bunker and Divot, always used my hybrids from a rough lie/in the rough. Love the idea of using the hybrid in a putting stroke, maybe can use that rather than a De lofted 4 iron, keep the good stuff coming, thanks Rick
Great advice & options Rick. I've been procrastinating about getting a Titleist H1 and this video has just convinced me that it's a must have now. Keep up the informative vlogs, cheers.
I love a hybrid chip and run. It saves me loads of shots particularly with a shot from just short and below the level of the green. Very easy to do. I rarely used it to get back in play below tree branches though, must try that. Cheers
Thanks for these tips on the hybrid As lm now 80 and not as powerful as l once was on really long fairway shots the use of the hybrid to get200yards up the fairway especially from tricky lies was terrific Goodbye 2 and 3 irons
lol I am NOT a PGA pro, so believe me when I say that if I hit my tee shot in the fairway, and it comes to a stop in a divot, I'm picking my ball up and dropping in the pure fairway. 🤙
Yea you shouldn't be punished for a divot in a fairway it's a really stupid rule that should be changed even in the PGA. I play off scratch and if I'm not playing with a bunch of snobs who need every little advantage to beat me best believe I'm dropping
Thanks very much Rick! I remembered your tip about using the hybrid in a shallow fairway bunker...was able to rocket the my ball out of the bunker and save an extra stroke!
I've used mine for most of these. I haven't had to hit out of a divot yet, but will keep this in the back of my mind should I end up in one. Great information, Rick. I love this type of video.
C le i QLD for the last year or so I’ve used nothing but hybrid inside 10 yards when there’s no bunker in front of me. Took 3 strokes off my handicap. It works.
In the 30 years I have golfed I have played a variety of hybrids. The first was a Spalding Windjammer I would have bought in 1989. When I was playing a lot I could hit that club about 200 yards with a draw swing and only 150 yards with an exaggerated cut swing. Distances in between called for an in between swing. My success with that club led me to buy a full set of Spalding Cannon Advance clubs, driver thru sand wedge. The hollow head hybrid like clubs were the 2 to the 6 irons. My all time favourites were Adams Pro Forged. That combo set came with 3 and 4 hybrid clubs and I added the 2 and 5 versions later. It seems to me that Adams had a well deserved reputation for making clubs for older golfers. I miss the Adams company offerings since Taylormade purchased Adams.
Cheers Rick! Love your vids. This one in particular saved my round. I was able to play out from other the trees, bump and run better around the green and also come out from a low green side bunker. Saving 4 pars at the end of my front 9. I now look at my hybrids/rescues with new found love. I use the Ping G400 19' and 22' rescues.
Used the Hybrid out of the fairway bunker on the 16th at Radcliffe on Trent GC, put it 157 onto the green and knocked in a 25ft put for par. Thanks for the tips Rick
Hi Rick, I’m a big fan of your UA-cam channel that I discovered this year. I would like to see a comparaison of the Taylormade P-serie models with similar loft instead of the same iron number in the futur and the same thing with the muzino Jpx serie including the Hot metal Pro. Keep doing what you do, always entertaining to watch!
Good tips. I'm a senior golfer and simply do not have the strength I once had. So 3-6 irons have been replaced with 4 hybrids. Seven iron is my longest iron now. Been playing with some small head Adams hybrids but got new Callaway Rogue X on the way. Looking forward to trying those and will use for various shots as RS described.
Love all your videos...makes me want to get out and gold no matter the weather. very helpful and always hits the point. ..well done.i enjoy listening to you and appreciate your passion for the game.
I'm just getting into golf, and I think you've convinced me to get a hybrid or two in my bag once I'm ready to buy a brand new set of clubs of my own. Forget fairway woods or long irons when you can get a club that does the job of both and more!
Thank you for sharing the important steps of using the hybrid. I just got me pre owned cleveland hybrids and now I'll keep it in mind for spots like these. I couldn't use 3,5 woods on the rough spot so now I have hybrid clubs I'll use them instead.
Hi Rick great vlog as usual, been using hybrid for bump and runs on to the green for a while now, my fellow golf mates look at me as if Im nuts, but it works!
I liked this video. I just recently purchased my first hybrid (a Cobra F9 One Length to go with my one length F9 irons). Although any time I've tried a hybrid in the past, I found them weird to hit. After watching this video, I decided to do a little practice and try some things out. I've had 3 shots in my last 2 rounds where I was in some trees, on a lot of dead leaves, etc, with a decent opening to advance the ball. Previously, I would use a 4 or 5 iron and try to play it back in my stance to hit it low, and would end up hitting it offline and pinballing my shot. All 3 times with the hybrid I made great contact, my ball went on line, and I advanced the ball further that I normally would have. Very impressed using it as a trouble club. I was very interested in chipping with it, because I can hit some bad shots using my wedge or an 8 iron on bump and run chips. After some practice I decided to utilize it out on the course today. I was really pleased with how consistent I was chipping with it. You just need to find the line because the ball is on the ground quickly, and use that putting stroke! Thanks for the tips Rick
Rick, I’ve just read some comment left by subscribers. To say the least they were “enlightening.” Your statements and examples were helpful after much “practice.” Practice doesn’t make perfect, “perfect practice” makes permanent. You have put five more shots in our bags.
Good call. The hybrid club is the most under-rated club in the game. Aside from the used in your video you can also use it off the tee and in a pinch, as a putter. Only club you need, really. Cheers
Hybrids really need to be utilized by more players in modern golf in these ways, the guys on tours will use them around greens yet amateurs rarely pull them out of the bag. I think there's a wrong stigma about hybrids being for higher handicaps but that's silly, they're such a versatile club & I'm sure guys like Bobby Jones would've used them often given the chance
I use a combination of hybrids Rick.Callaway Rogue X, Ping G 400, Taylormade M4 and M 6. You are right . They can be used many different ways. My favorite of the one's you just showed is gripping down on it near the green for chipping. :) I also love them for getting out of the tree situations. Cheers from Manchester Ct. Spider Dubiel
*Q.) What brand and loft of hybrid do you play?*

Great video Rick,
Greetings from Austria
Adams 19* Tight Lies. Been using it (and similar clubs over the years) as a "chipper" since forever.
1. Top it
2. Duff it
3. Slice it
4. Shank it
5. Admire it in the bag.
accurate (bar the 5th one)
So true
😂. Took me a while to learn it, now it’s my favorite club in my bag. Always can rely on it for any shape shot from 200-230 yards. Love it
You must have seen me play some where lol those are my 4 favorite shots man haha
That sounds like a Daft Punk song
Much prefer this type of vid to the 'lets see how far these drivers go, oh its the same'. Keep em coming Rick
I've replaced all my clubs in the bag with only this club now
I played today and used my hybrid a lot more after watching this video. I especially liked using it as a replacement for a wedge. I managed to get it on the green much easier than using my wedge. Thanks for bringing this to my attention rick
I have the most confidence with my hybrid than any other club in my bag. So versatile
Just started golfing this past Father’s Day. Your videos have been a huge help for drills and strategies. Also helps that I am five minutes from the driving range so I can practice a few times a week.
That had to be the single most creative video about hybrids I’ve ever seen! Good stuff Rick!!!
I just watched this last night and then used hybrid tip #1 & #2 today (and almost #4)! They worked great - thanks, Rick!
Don’t usually comment. But always like and love your vids. But this one especially. Gonna help a lot with my game.
Thanks as always
First way to use your hybrid: hit the ball
Second way: self defense
Third way: reaching something that’s too high
Fourth way: pretend like you’re good at golf
Last way: actually get good at golf
Margie H perfect
I use mine to sweep out the balls I putt in my room from underneath my table. That's about it.
Great vid Rick, really like the videos where you give tips rather than review.. I was thinking maybe a good video for the future would be how you adjust your set up and swing due to uneven lies, for example ball below, ball above, down hill and uphill lies
He’s done one before I think, have a look through his old videos 👍
Watched your Video and putted in off the green for Par on the 5th of Worsley park ,it works
Great video, just got my Hybrids last fall. I love them and am glad to see your video. Thanks Rick
Nice to know I am not crazy with the amount of time I use my hybrids. My set came with a 4 and 5 hybrid and I added the 3. It definitely helps me on the shots into the green.
I’ll be using these tips with my newly purchased cobra hybrid. Cheers Rick!
I got a Cobra King hybrid for an extra 50 bucks when I bought a guy’s Odyssey Exo 7 putter. Til then, I didn’t have a hybrid. I had no idea it would become the most valuable club in my bag.
I must say buying my hybrid has been a great advantage in particular in chipping and getting out of the rough....thanks Rick.

Phenomenal ! Hybrids are so versatile! Rick you nailed it!
Just picking up the game again. Thank you. I never would have thought of using a hybrid in these ways. Outstanding video
New goal, master the hybrid bump and run.
Let me know how you get on !
@@RickShielsPGA Have you ever done this shot around the green in a vlog? All that we've seen is just a desperate stab with the LW ;-)
@@RickShielsPGA what degree loft do you recommend for that shot?
One of the first times I used this shot I holed out for birdie on 18.
Did you ever figure out the hybrid bump and run?
Fantastic advice, Rick. Lot's to think about and lots to apply. Thanks!
Great video as always. I will have to try the chip and run using a putting stroke
As much as I get a kick outta the "fun" videos, I enjoy the instruction videos for improving my game.....Keep em coming Rick
I saw this video this morning and used it this afternoon. Bump and run as well as replacing my 3-iron for rescue shots worked very nicely! Thanks Rick!
Great tip. I have commonly seen more the bump-n-run and the bunker shot, so liked the divot and rough shots. Thanks
of all your videos rick, this one is one of my favorites. the bump and run is one of my favorites, especially when i’m 30-40 yards out and can just run the ball up onto the green.
That shot out of the fairway bunker was insane .
" don't be afraid to hot a little sand" picks it clean...
super good / smart advice ! I'm very confident these tips will help lower my score a few strokes - I'm in all of those predicaments multiple times per round . Thank Rick ! FORE !!!

I use my reverse overlap putter grip and as closely as possible, my putter stroke.
Used hybrid clubs from most of those situations, but fairway bunkers, honestly never thought of that, excellent tip, cheers.
Thank you Rick. Saw this video last week and used 3 out of your 5 tips out on the course today brilliantly. Question: In this video you didn’t really mention ball placement in your stance using the hybrid. Can you help with that?
One of your most helpful videos. Many of these are well known, but fantastic reminders. I’m gonna use all 5!
Having just bought my first hybrid (SIM2 Max), this video is a HUGE help.
Great vid. Haven’t hit mine well recently but have used for bump/run.
Great one Rick. First tip I use regularly and I thought “oh boy I probably already know the rest...” and only knew one, so VERY helpful. 👍
"Big flat bottom"....I don't think you said it enough lol. Great vid and tips!
An excellent training video for someone, like myself, who finds it too difficult to put the hybrid to good use. Thank you.
I just got an Adams golf 5 hybrid. I'm excited to use your tips especially on the mid hole bunker and chip on the green
Great advice Rick. I love your videos buddy, they are really helpful.
Nice tips. Never tried hitting out of the bunker before, but the other methods I have used before.
Got my Sim2 hybrid yesterday. Can’t wait to give it a go, thanks for this great tutorial your content is always on par...
Awsome vid Rick just bought my first hybrid just trying to figure it out awsome video
4 hybrid is my new favourite club its helped lower/better my score and rescued me out of bad situations..
As someone new to golf i find these sort of video so useful
Thanks for this...I've been kinda scared to use my hybrids on the course but I will try some of these tips.
Love my Apex 21 Hybrid. You got me thinking Rick, I should be using it for more shots. Thanks for all the great info.
Ping 7 and 4 hybrids, and an old Taylor Made Rescue 5! All your videos have really helped me. Thank you Rick!

Totally agree Rick, l carry 5 Hybrids and use foe 2 - 4, as not enough practice near to the green.
Love your videos Rick keep them coming pal think I have watched them all now

Are you going to do a 9 holes with only a Hybrid vlog?
awesome video and great tips, will have to try those this year!!
Thanks for the great video Rick. I am going to have to start using my hybrids more often.

Thanks rick I play off 11 & always used irons but am definitely going to get some hybrids cheers
Good call. The hybrid club is the most under-rated club in the game. Aside from the used in your video you can also use it off the tee and in a pinch, as a putter. Only club you need, really. Cheers
Thx Rick. I need to get this going ...
Great video! So informative for a newbie like me.
Excellent, informative, to the point 🏌️♀️
Very useful thank you
Great suggestions. Definitely gonna try these.
This has helped massively played out the trees and out a fairway bunker. Helped me par two more holes on my round 😊😊
