- Welcome to the first episode of Sheenanigans, where I do some random activity and chat to you about a specific topic! Today I’m wrapping up presents and sharing with you the 5 reasons why I did a PhD.

I am Dr. Sheen Gurrib and I want to play my part in supporting the next generation of empowered women. So, I have a podcast ‘Dream, Girl’, where I host women from all spheres of life with varied experiences and life journeys and we look beyond the social lens to discuss everything from racism, sexism, representation and mental health. Great summary! Your last point is so important too. Having the right supervisors and lab group is incredibly important as they will help push and support you towards your goals! It's amazing you had two female supervisors, it's often rare to have this, especially in STEM fields.

Wow amazing a PhD from Cambridge,I have plan to do PhD in Accounting and Finance from City UnivLondon or LSE if I get admission.
Been wondering whether I should do PhD or not and this is insightful tho. I was told that I shouldn’t further my studies by a few people mainly because of the workloads etc and money as well. What irks me mainly is how I was told by a lecturer who taught me a class that I should stop and well somehow this video gives me a bit of a pressure to do something more of something I’m invested in.

Man, I didnt get this experience and belongingness doing my master’s; my classmates were nasty and were always on a witch hunt of trying to prove the other person wrong during presentations etc especially if they don’t like them. And some of our supervisors didn’t even care about our research project. Great to hear u had a great experience and this amazing camaraderie during ur PHD but my master’s experience was horrendous coupled with doing it during covid, I just need a break after graduation. The toxicity and the workload caused me to burnout.

As someone who did bachelors and now starting masters in neuroscience, I always wanted to do med and I am planning on doing it after my masters. But lord do you make a PhD sound so appealing to a point where now I am questioning whether I should do it instead of med school

Hey, welcome to UA-cam! I've been watching Ali's channel for a while now and that's how I came to know about you. I must say, you started with a bang! I'm graduating high school in a month. And I'm really excited for college, Oxford has always been my dream uni (unfortunately I couldn't get into it) but hopefully some day, I will. I also want to do a PhD someday. This video is great. Lately I've been thinking of starting my own UA-cam channel, will you please let me interview you when I do?

Hello Sheen,
I just watched a video from the german UA-camr Niklas Steenfat, where he talked about all this Traditions Cambridge University has. Since you've been at Cambridge too, could you maybe tell us about your life there, and what the differences are to other Univeritys. For example he told us about the Partys and something like that. Would be very interesting to hear about your life at Cambridge.
