As far as the lift up hatch I used Firgelli Automations 24" Linear Actuators -- As you can see in the video I used 3 of them. There was an article in Model Railroader Magazine in June 2019 about my lift up. To hide the seam along the tracks I used a large piece of styrene (don't remember the thickness). As for the hilly area, I used Polyfiber by Woodland Scenics to cover the seam and lots of ground cover - flocking and static grass to camouflage as much as I could. I also put trees strategically in places to hide the seam from certain vantage points. The base was 1/2" plywood with 2 pieces of steel angle iron running lengthwise under the plywood and all the scenery was mounted on styrofoam which was removable by sliding it off when the lift up was raised halfway up. Thank you for checking out my video. It’s a tough decision and the first cut will be the hardest. I’m hoping parts of it will be purchased and used on other layouts so it can live on. If you ever have a chance to check out the history of the Southern New England and the book The Titanic Railroad, it’s quite a story. I was glad I could bring it to life.
Is it insulting to think this should sell for. $100k?
Thank you but I wish it could sell for that much. The reality is it was such a passion of mine for over 30 years and have met so many WONDERFUL people through the layout and hobby, I wouldn't trade it for a million dollars.
Oh I thought it was for sale. I wouldn’t want to let that thing go either. It is truly a masterpiece!@@jasonfontaine1257
What an incredible layout! But how do you go about "dismantling" it and selling? Piece by piece? Sections? The whole thing?
Thank you very much. I’ll start by taking off some of the buildings, but basically make cuts that make sense and easily fit out of my basement.
I knew him when he was just a natural gas technician…. Amazing!!!
Thanks Jay.. I have a lot of great memories working with you!
Beautiful layout.,..redneck music sucks!!
