  • I wanted you to meet Pongo, my new to me 2016 Tacoma TRD Off-Road. Lots of goodies on her: Flippac camper, CBI bumpers, skid plates, sliders and racks, ARB lift kit and fridge, Warn winch and VTX wheels.

Great Rig! One day maybe I'll bump into someone who wants to sell me their fully outfitted overlander Tacoma as well! (fingers and toes crossed) Maybe it'll happen right after I win the lottery and can afford it...lol. I love the idea of the flip pack on the top as well. Looking forward to hearing more about how it works for you!

The Flippac is amazing. Sadly they went out of business (company was FRP) I plan to do a walk around of the camper and show some repairs I have made.

The closest you will get to a Flip-Pac, should you stay in the Tacoma camp would be a product called "THE Habitat". Ideally its really a revised, albeit better in ways version of the Flip-Pac with all of the necessary fixes that should have been done by Flip-Pac initially, but refused to take any corrective measures to improve upon the product. I wasn't the only one giving and showing them ideas for improvements. It is [was] a great idea and a good product but they do have issues to an extent.
We have one of our demo rigs outfitted with one, by the serial number its from back in 95-96 if I recall and ironically, it took over 22 years before the torsion bar decided to leave this world, whereas many of the newer ones are on their 3rd replacement from them. Thankfully there are much better replacements available, same with hinge brackets.
But the Habitat, its an interesting product, I specifically in comparison like the fact that the top opens to the rear on it vs the Flip-Pac in ways because it actually provides an overhand which obviously doubles as shaded space underneath. That being said, I wished when the opportunity was available we would have bought what was left of Flip-Pac when they shut down.
I would have been eager to make the changes that would have taken it to a different direction. I do still laugh when I think of the one woman (Owners Daughter of FRP) expression on her face when I opened up our unit rather quickly at FRP there in Corona, CA and she had a look of panic as if I was cranking open a exploding jack-in-the-box.. maybe that was an indicator there was a known torsion bar [fear] failure before I found out 2.5 years later.
      I'd still buy another one..

@@12degnorth19 I've seen the Habitat online and while it does have lots of great features, I really prefer the flip forward of the Flip Pac. For me it feels more secure, like if it fails you're not falling far :) I am surprised someone hasn't relaunched them given the interest in campers and how we all love our tacos.

They were around $6,000 USD when new, sadly the company went out of business. FRP Flippac.
