    LYRICS
    it’s a breakneck Monday morning
and I can take it slow
pour cream into my coffee, fresh from off the stove
I replay my favourite saddest song to remember how it goes
or pick up where I left off with last night’s episode
if you’re interested, I can tell you more
of the benefits of being alone
each day I work a little bit on plans of my own
I book flights to places I have always wanted to go
    listening to records, monophonic stereo
crawl into bed and check for unread messages on my phone
if you’re curious, I can give you a guided tour
of the benefits of being alone
if I don’t end up with anyone
could be six days to find my body gone but
think of all the space I get to roam
don’t you worry about me, in all my solo reverie
the only one who’s there when I get home
    to all the benefits
    the benefits of being alone
broken conversation as you get the kids ready to go
we’ll talk about the girls weekend we constantly postpone
I envy how you’re steady and you envy how I roll
and how brave I am to sing about it on a microphone
no matter baby, that’s what makes the show
    the benefits of being alone
don’t you worry about me, in all my solo reverie
I decide where everything will go
then I return to everything just so
the only one who’s there when I get home
    to all the benefits
    all the benefits
    the benefits of being alone

This is a masterclass in songwriting. I heard this on the radio and couldn't believe that such [seemingly] "normal, everyday language" had such beautiful flow with the melody, and so interesting and captivating. I'm blown away.

@@rosecousins No, thank you for such determination to put out such fantastic music even when the "industry" doesn't seem to want to reward you as handsomely as you deserve -- yet ;-)
... The thing that blows me away about this song is that it feels like something any one of us could have written in our journal, or the words that an amatuer songwriter would write that would sound terribly cheesy when actually put to music -- but somehow you make it work brilliantly.
P.S. I get a 'Beatles' vibe. I'd love to hear a Sgt. Peppers version of this if you find a way ;-)

This song should become a timeless classic; it has a catchy, hummable and memorable melody and comfortable tempo. The arrangement is terrific and subject matter most can relate to. As a musician it was also a joy to hear real 'horns' !
Since I heard it on CBC it's been in my mind's ear so much that I had to look it up on UA-cam.
Thanks for restoring some faith in modern song writing and performance.

About time somebody made a tune that doesn't sell the fact that you need to be paired up with somebody to be happy.

Besides how amazing this song is, the two best things about this video are her putting her night guard in her mouth (I can relate) and the portrait of Stevie Nicks! So glad I discovered Rose's music.

Love the haloed images of Patti Smith, Madonna, David Bowie, and Stevie Nicks but I can’t make out who that is on the laptop at about 0:24. Prince?

Great Message for those who are mostly alone...and get used to 'alone-ness...but nevertheless are still sometimes a bit lonely...but maybe that is part of the human condition...

Very late to this but I heard it on CBC today during a tiring shift at work, and it instantly reminded me of my mom. She's a very strong person and has been single most of her life including now. I sent her this song tonight after I got home and she was really happy to hear it.
P.S. This is such a great song.

I understand that the song is highlighting the idea of being independent and, perhaps I am reading too much into the video, but I am wondering if the ending hints at a bit of loneliness. At the end, when Rose comes off of the treadmill, it is silent and she kind of looks around a few times (as if to look to see if anyone is waiting around after the video had been finished being made).
