she has such a driving force in the final movement... it's *SO* energetic! (Eg go to 5:42, I've never heard it played with such crispness) I really really hope this will be officially recorded one day!!
Hilary wore that dress when I saw her play the Tchaikovsky in D with the San Francisco Symphony! It's beautiful, just like her playing. :) I play cello, and am learning the transcription of the piece right now. Bravo!
Brilliant playing from this duo as always. I LOVE the way she ends the last note with a dramatic down stroke. It's like the large sweeping motion of a sword.
people say u should be motionless & expressionless when playing the fiddle....well H.H. is a top player & her movements are a bonus as i see it...completely endearing...wouldn't be the same if she played standing there like a statue!!...as does heifetz etc!
True, I am Romanian, and claim to feel these songs a bit closer to my soul, as I grew up with these songs and her moves are quite the way these songs make me move when hearing them. It shows me she's got the gist of them, in and out! Great interpretation!
ameblo.jp/galwayera/entry-12178794174.html I am admitting there are several excellent solo piano performances of this Bartok's Rumanian folk dances like Elena or Kaori. But regarding this tune, I love the performance by violin and piano than piano solo. Hilary and Valentina even have expressed very joyful and festive scenery at the last quick dance. Although some people may think that their playing is pretty wild and rough, that is just their aim. This tune was composed by Bartok for the brave and decent farmers in East Europe. I think so.
Not to criticize all the Hungarians in here throwing a fit but how do you appropriately EVER capture the emotion in the voice of 70 year old men and women in the world left, who actually can recite like tunes? The emotion is there -- and you are missing it. Commemorating and memorializing the rich tradition of folk music from one of the most underrepresented areas with the powerful and technical brilliance of a violinist like HH. Emotion is truly subjective until you listen to HH -- then emotion is objective in the most convincing way. This is the true power of music - to win over the fresh-eared listener to look at the music they are listening to for the first time in a whole different way.
I'm Romanian from Voivodina. There are hardly any tonal characteristics in the violin here at all the resemble Romanian folk violin playing. The notes may be from Bartok but that's about it.

Hahn is tasteful as ever, but why the cheat notes on the A string in IIIrd mvt. And what is the pianist doing? The music can well do without her drawing attention to herself, yuk!
It's so thoughtless to make a video with your phone at a concert like this. It's really an unacceptable distraction when you're sitting behind the person holding up the bright screen.
All the respect for Hahn, but this is the worse performance of Bartok ever played by professional musicians. Also very bad match between Valentina and Hahn.
I really like the two performers individually, but there was a lot of wrestling between the two regarding tempo. I think that undercut the interpretation.
@@jayspenceranderson yes that's what i meant as well. I respect both of them but this is lacking a lot of the energy that Bartok conveys. I would take Schwarzberg Gililov interpretation any day even with the shitty audio quality

This is simply incredible!! What a perfect match!
My favorite violonist and my favorite classical pianist playing my favorite piece ... where the hell was I 13 years ago !?
My favorite pianist & my favorite violinist playing one of my favorite repertoire!
This is just GOLD!
Two of classical music's greatest musicians performing together...brilliant!
One knock on my heart while the other talking to my soul. Fantastic!
Brilliant playing from this duo as always.
I LOVE the way she ends the last note with a dramatic down stroke. It's like the large sweeping motion of a sword.
Love these two working together! Charles Ives Sonatas are my favorite! This is a close second!....Terrific stuff!

Ça groove de fou dans le final !
Wonderfull traditional Romanian music! thank you!
I wish there was a high quality version of this! It's beautiful :D
Watch David Ostrakh
DEVINE!
I didn't know this so dramatic Bartok's piece! It's so beautiful too!
Wow, just stunning.
Hilary Hahn performs her magic for our immense pleasure.

Great! Didn't expect to see Lisitsa accompanying for Romanian songs. Both are great! And the moves of violonist, very into the songs!

the gorgeous flowing glittering dress is beautiful

Wonderful. Great performance.

So far, noone has played this better than Scheryng.
I really enjoyed this performance!
o yes o yes o yes super

rrjjyy, thanks for pointing that out. When Hilary Hahn invites you to accompany her in Berlin, we'll all be sure to listen to you play the right one!
incredible
Wow Valentina plays Accompaniment
Briliant
Agreed... the drama just isn't there.... still beautiful in every respect though....

Behind that beautiful dress Hilary is Dancing with passion and grace. She has said that she uses her legs to better feel music.

gott damn. nice ending

Beautiful performance. Sometimes the piano is too loud.
Yes i know....

Igaz.
maybe people dont know him well....

Not quite the best rendition of the Romanian Dances. I'm not a specialist but Oistrakh's version is way better in my opinion.
So ?
who the fuck takes a phone video on a classical music concert?
me :)
And that’s always better than nothing...
not enough aggression
lose
50000 views for Ms Hahn, 35 views for Mr Szeryng. Shows all the things wrong with this world.
Tymur Melnyk and 1'000'000'000 for justin bieber...
and 5 000 000 000 for despacito.
Now (1019/07/04) it is 152,000 for Hahn and 254,000 for Szering. Has the world changed?
Nonsense
