She doesn't try and brandish her interpretation all over it, so you get the real music pure and unadulterated.
I agree with you about Hillary being true to the music and not a show off. But what is interesting is that Milstein, the person who composed this specific piece, is everything you just criticized, haha. He was certainly a show off, and would often distort and completely alter certain pieces to add his own interpretations, sometimes to his own downfall, where he would get lost. This whole piece is actually Milstein's show-off, interpreted version of a piece by Paganini.

I'm so appreciative of TwoSet and (Professor) Chloe Chua for leading me here and giving me more insight into the classical world (I don't even play an instrument but thanks to them I can still enjoy classical music!)
This is just stunning playing. Different approach from Milstein whose piece it is (based on Caprice No.24). But listen to that fabulous intonation - almost perfect. Best high position G string playing I have ever heard....anywhere. Top notes E string. Best I have ever heard anywhere too. Clarity, rhythm, crispness, dynamism...she's got it all. Milstein would have approved, and Paganini too.
She has the Clarity, rhythm, crispness, and dynamism while being so...light. It’s delicate, yet strong at the same time....she truly is a legend. Love from 2021
Honestly, I don't think Milstein would have approved of Hilary’s playing of his piece. Her playing is of the highest technical caliber, but perfection is not what this (or any) piece of music is truly about. With this piece, Milstein sought to honor the revolutionary effect Paganini had on violin technique and classical music as a whole. With Paganini came the advent of the age of virtuosity, and virtuosity was since then known as a necessary component of a great artist. But while virtuosity is certainly important, that’s not what this piece is about either. It’s about invention, combining themes by Paganini, a great inventor of violin technique and of music, and turning them on their head. Hilary and most other performers of this piece simply don't do that. They just play what is written on the page, nothing more, nothing less. The 19th century was filled with musicians who wrote and played their own music, but that fell out of style in later years. It’s a shame musicians aren’t as inventive today as they once were.
Manh Quan Hoang oh yes I did, but i hope they also bask her just to see what she would say, too. I did really like that video though. She is literally so awesome
@Senuka Abeysinghe Yikes, sorry. Why are you so aggressive though? I was just also trying to show some appreciation for TwoSet and Chloe and the fact that they led me here.
I love how she actually utilizes dynamics. It’s very rare to find when people play this piece, and it’s a breath of fresh air tbh. For pieces like this, where it is so blatantly difficult, ignoring dynamics lessons the emotional and creative impact to me. It’s almost offensive with how showy and brash it comes across. Exactly why this is my favorite version.
@@keller109 fair enough, but you must like him to some extent considering he composed the piece. I actually like how Hilary ends it with the trills, it's very convincing. She's certainly a great violinist, I just think most showpieces aren't really her thing (with the exception of Der Erlkönig, her performance of that is unmatched). The big concerti, particularly the German ones, are where I think she really shines. And of course Bach.

best 8 mins of my life
Not sure if she's some sort of magical being, Goddess, or alien...it's too perfect...
Man, keep these videos coming! I could watch these all day. Watching and listening to Hilary is like reading a textbook on good violin playing. Thanks, twilight!! If you get any more in the future, please please upload them!
Yuh
Mm
Apart from technique what most impress me is that she performs always without sheets!
Beautiful... this is the first time I have ever heard something like this.
Wow Eddy and Brett could also have asked Hilary! But I guess Covid-19 didn't allow it
Hilary took a 1 year sabbatical so she's still there
But Chloe lives in Singapore, so either twoset or Chloe must have travelled to meet each other. I think it’s just that Hilary does not have the time and Chloe is amazing in the first place
Swiss Roll i think twoset actually might own an apartment in singapore, so theyve been staying there for the past month and a half or so now?
I started with a random video of Alice Sara Ott, then Chloe Chua, then twoset, more Chloe Chua, then Hilary Hahn.. i love them both
