    Hey everyone! Today we're revisiting one of my favorite discontinued Ibanez basses, the Attack series... better known as the ATK! This ATK 810 was the top tier 'Premium' edition before going up to the Made in Japan 'Prestige' bass. Featuring a quad coil Music Man style humbucker with a 3 way switch, a Jazz style humbucker at the neck position, and a 3 band preamp, the ATK is looking to do it all! Let's check this bass out!
    Check out BullyThaKidd's video on this bass!: • Ibanez ATK810 Full Demo
    This bass and all my other basses with rounds are strung with MJC Ironworks Nickel Plated Stainless Steel 45-105(125) unless otherwise noted. Check them out at www.mjcironworks.com

    I could be wrong, but I feel like most players didn’t really notice these basses or really rave about them back when they were still being produced. I’m glad you’re showcasing this powerhouse of a bass and giving it the credit it deserves.

    I was telling people about this bass, it's a sleeper! I was able to get a 2017 model that came with a case. I don't know why they stopped production of this bass. It is a multi- tone machine. I too won't sell mine either. I commented on your first review and also Bully the kid's review of it. It's just a great sounding instrument. I'm glad you went back, played it and really got to know it. Great bass!

    I have this exact bass. I was in a music store and just picked it up because of the "Unfinished" look of it. Was I ever surprised when I plugged her up. The playability and tone was right there! I really didn't have to fiddle about with it except for purposely checking out what was under the hood. It was several years ago. I'm thinking I paid around $500 for it. I saw on reverb where the used ones were going for 2 thousand plus dollars!! Amazing that these cool basses were so overlooked and underrated when you could get them. Thanks for the rundown, Lobby! You sounded great on it! I see you did this vid awhile back. I actually haven't played mine for awhile. I'm primarily a session musician. Most of the albums I've worked on lately have been Americana, Blues or Ol' Skool R&B. The producers have wanted Ol' Skool bass tones. I've been using P-basses and a couple of Hollowbodies with flats. I'm thinking I might give this Ibanez a whirl with flats. Yeah, I'll never part with mine either! Thanks again! Bottoms Up, Bass Bro!

  • @longdongbongchong
    @longdongbongchong 2 роки тому +4

    I had one of these exact basses at the same time along with my ATK 300. I found the sound rather pedestrian, and I sold it. The redesigned preamp in this model is a lot more polite than what previously encouraged people to start calling the old ATK a Stingray killer. Not so sure that applies to the 810. Where the old preamp and pickup excelled was that it not only could cop a stingray tone, but it was in many ways even better with the 3 coils and the coil switch. It was notoriously impolite, which I love and could get really snarly if you want it to. The 300 was one of Ibanez's best basses, and they really hit it out of the park. They went more for versatility, and I suppose wider appeal with the 810, but strayed from the formula that made the original so popular.

    Bought a barely used ATK 810 back in December. It my first bass and I absolutely adore it.
    There is something funny going on with it though. The 2014-2015 models were stained in a walnut color and used a lighter headstock logo.
    My unstained 2016 model also has that light logo...and an early 2014 serial number. I contacted Ibanez for some information. There was some discussion on whether to leave these basses natural, stain them or do both. They made a few of each and went with the stained model. When they switched to natural for 2016 my bass was sent to a retailer as a demo/promo model. Since other than the color and logo it has the same specs

  • @matthewbeckwith663
    @matthewbeckwith663 2 роки тому

    Thanks for revisiting the ATK...I enjoyed your first vid as well.
    I have a ATK200 (brown transparent burst with tort gaurd) - I love it! Build quality in terms of the neck, body, neck joint, tuners, etc. are fantastic. I'm with you in that the ATK neck is so comfortable to play (I like baseball bat necks). The electronics are powerful and small adjustments go a long way. Now that I understand this point, I am thrilled with the preamp and EQ. My only gripe is that the pickup selector toggle only works in 2 modes now and twice I've had to deal with an input jack that went south. User error? Certainly could be! Thank God I can still select the humbucker mode with all coils engaged. I bought the bass on EBAY, so who knows what abuse it endured before arriving at my door step.
    I hope Ibanez releases an ATK line again in the future. How about dual quad rail humbuckers? I would LOVE to hear this quad coil in the P-Bass position. Maybe offer some of the gorgeous finishes from the Sound Gear line.
    I've considered switching out the electronics and replacing the quad coil with a pole piece humbucker, but I'm really digging the clarity and articulation of these rails. Compared to a Ray, these ATKs have a more natural/organic/even sounding midrange to my ears. Warm, growly, punchy tones, but I can also easily obtain a warm, round tone. I would like to replace the preamp with the OPB3 in order to gain more control of the mids. But not until I have to because I do not want to lose the stock magic and mojo.
    Your tone really shined alongside the drum loop. Great playing 😊!

    I love my ATK 310 (especially with an onboard overdrive mod, that I did based on your DIY DarkRay video), but I still think that it's sound is tricky. In most real life situations a Jazz Bass sounds more natural and sits better in the mix without any tweeking. The ATK is a cool 2nd bass for experimenting with unusual sounds, when your main bass covers more natural and traditional tones.
    I was thinking about adding a neck J pickup like Bartolini BA 9JS1 to add some low mids for the situations that would require them, but I would have to drop the pickguard - in single pickup ATKs the pickguard has a slightly different shape and a J pickup in a sweet spot would be mounted at the edge of the pickguard.
    You definitely have to check out an ATK with a classic triple coil pickup :) People say that the 4 coil pickups in newer ATKs sound more polite in comparison, and generally prefer the triple coils.

There aren't many floating around and even the few owners out there hardly know about the neck but they do know about the quality of these basses. Hi Lobster, nice reviews! This is also my favorite bass. Really awesome especially on clean bass tones and slap. Really transparent and airy..
    BUT: In recording case, I have no success stories yet with this bass :( ... I'm not able to dial in an impressive classic "growly" mid-scoped tone with it like e.g. Chic. Tried lot of things. Even this bass sounds fantastic alone, I simply can't make it fit into the record. It has plenty of treble and presence. When I'm trying to eq' them out; no growl is left.
    Do you have any hints? What are your favorite settings for a growly middy tone? I'm expecting the ATK810 part 3 seeing you fit ATK810 succesfully in a funky record.

    Interesting. Most bassists don't really include Ibanez when searching out a new instrument.
    I bought a reasonably-priced Ibanez SRF700 fretless (Indonesian made) a few years ago, and it's outstanding; in build quality, tone (with a piezo p.u.) and feel. And possibly the lowest, most comfortable action since my Wal Custom back in the 80's. And I think it cost about £650.00. UK.

      Correct Ricardo, this is the 'reformulated' one from the most recent run. Weight was drastically reduced when compared to the older models. They achieved this by shrinking the body a little bit and I'm assuming picking lighter pieces of wood for the premiums. That's only speculation on my part though, I haven't seen enough of these to get any sort of weight consensus.
