    This reminded me that I had accumulated several quart bags of field peas in the freezer over the growing season, so I defrosted and pressure canned them all tonight. Now I have extra room in my small freezer, and the peas are ready to heat and eat.

    Field peas were my favorite out of my grandparents garden. But the best memories are of shelling them on the front porch. We all had a pan.

    God provided me with a blessing of mange tout peas, sugar snap peas, and extra fine green beans just days ago and this evening (UK GMT) you have been lead to do video on preserving varieties of American peas. Preparedness is a life subject and God has every tiny detail covered in His teaching of and provisions for that subject. Thank you for your part.

    Wanda with the chopped peppers, you can put them in jars (I use the half gallon Ball jars) add the oxygen absorber and seal it with your food saver. They don't get crushed, look beautiful in the pantry, and it's easy to grab what you need for a recipe. Thanks for posting this one, I'm gonna do that with next year's pink eye purple hull

    Going through my freezer and found bags of frozen peas and wanted to use my new freeze dryer. I knew I could rely on you Miss Wanda😊 thanks a whole bunch and blessing to you all.
    Also going to do some watermelon like you did. Watermelon was my first experiment, I cut it too thick and didn't let it process long enough.

    We received our Freeze Dryer today! The first thing I’m running through it will be 3 trays of cooked purple hull peas and 1 tray of Raritan peaches. Seeing your peas made me so excited to try them!

    Wow! I learned so much about freeze drying in this video. I never would have thought of freeze drying watermelon. Fresh peas sounds wonderful, as I am from Memphis but now live in Western Montana. Some things don't grow well up here because of our short growing season and high elevation.

    Miss Wanda, have you ever done "creamed" peas? Dad used to make a "gravy" with flour, water, & milk or butter to cream the peas & then depending on how much he wanted to fuss with them, some times took "left over" meat - ham, turkey, beef - added that to the peas with some onions & served it over toasted bread.
    If Dad made it, it was usually good & filling. He would salt & pepper to HIS taste, and then others could add more at the table.

    I live further south than you so the humidity here is off the charts.
    It gets 80% and above for days at a time. Of course it rains a lot too.
    The main thing the air conditioner does is to pull the humidity down to something reasonable like 60%.
    I keep a de-humidifier and sometimes two of them running in the house all summer.
    The one in my master bedroom and bath area pulls two gallons of water a day out of the air in that part of the house.
    I have never paid retail for one but i find de-humidifiers at flea markets or goodwill stores for $20 or so and buy them when I can.
    You might consider putting one in your she-shed.
    Thanks for all you do.

    Thank you for this video. I've looked and looked for a video of freeze drying COOKED field peas, or any bean, to see if they break open when freeze dried. I've seen a couple of videos where blanched beans did break open and the skin peeled back, which would probably turn the beans to mush when re-hydrated. I didn't want to have that happen to 4 trays of field peas, even though it's best to go ahead and cook & freeze dry so they take less time to have eatable beans in bad times. God bless

    I grew black eyed peas the first time this year. I’m up in NY and they took forever to take off. They sprouted and then stayed like 4 inches tall for 6 weeks and then shot off tendrils. Idk if that was normal or just our weather but wow a fresh field pea is delicious! Then I saved all the harvest (only about 16 ounces so far, and the plants are starting to yellow) and I’m thinking to save it all for seed since it was the only variety of cow pea i grew. Then next year I’ll plant out a 25 foot whole row

      Great! Fyi, youll get about 15 lbs of peas in a 100ft row. Calculate accordingly...

      What part of New York?
      My string, burgundy, and yellow wax are flourishing on Long Island.
      Just starting on my property upstate so idk if they will do good there but I have peach, apple and pear treed that are thriving up here.
      Let's trade some varieties.

    I wonder if you could just freeze dry the beans fresh, not cooked, after shelling them??

    • @tacticalllama9211
      @tacticalllama9211 2 роки тому

      I was wondering that too. I have such a small freezer there really isn’t space to put up much using it... it seems like freeze drying and storing in Mylar bags would be more space saving than having them canned too. I’d also be curious about how long they would keep freeze dried cooked vs raw, or if it would make any difference.

    • @preppedforeternityhomestea2848
      @preppedforeternityhomestea2848 2 роки тому +1

      @@tacticalllama9211 I’ve been researching this and it’s seems most people do not have much success unless they are cooked first. Also it takes a very long time between 45-50 hrs and then there was still some failure. Seems it is much more Difficult to get all the moisture out if raw. Im freezing for now and will probably cook and freeze dry later.
