      Absolutely. Other companies are bragging about features that have been in the GH5 for years. And there’s still some features most don’t have - like waveform and vector scope.

    I subscribed as soon as you talked about the term "cinematic", it is also a pet peeve of mine. The term is chucked about all the time with no real thought as to what actually makes a "cinematic" image. Keep up the good work!

  • @JWS1968

    Just a thought. You should try using a higher ISO on sunny days. It sounds counterintuitive but a higher ISO on a bright scene can actually make the highlight roll-off smoother. And if you get a colour shift when you use this technique simply set up a preset in your NLE to deal with it and save it with all of your other cookbook recipes.

    I believe there is a misconception regarding cinematic sensor sizes. The standards for cinema and photography are NOT the same. The 35mm film used in cinema (which is the standard) is equivalent to an APS-C sensor, not a Full Frame sensor. Using a 50mm f1.8 lens on a Super 35mm classic cinema camera is the same as using 50mm f1.8 on an APS-C sensor camera. In that regard, the crop factor of MFT is not that bad for cinematic purposes. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/APS-C

    • @PhaseDriveVlogs
      @PhaseDriveVlogs  3 роки тому +1

      If you haven't already got a 12-60mm kit lens, get that and just get out filming!
      But if you wanna take it to the next level, get a few cheap vintage primes (24, 28, 35, 50 etc.) either with something like a PK or M42 mount and get a focal reducer that can adapt it to m4/3

      Also I would be interested in eventually getting cheap prime lenses. Whats the difference between a PK, M42 mount, and a focal reducer? Can all these lenses mentioned (including the 12-60mm) be used for narrative filmmaking in your opinion? Sorry for all the questions, I very much appreciate your information!

      @@PhaseDriveVlogs I'm just a punter, "All the gear no idea" sort of chap.
      I used to own a GH4 which came with V-log out-of-the-box, as a promotion. As the camera was 8bit, even I could tell pushing the flat log profile caused problems so I left well alone and stuck with the CineD colour profile. This served me well till I killed my beloved GH4 filming the best-ist storm to hit the prom of my home town this century. Did you know that being slammed repeatedly in the face by twenty foot waves would destroy the weather sealing?
      Thankfully my Home Insurance saved the day, which is why I'm now sporting a GH5 and rocking the HLG colour profile and loving it. If its good enough for the BBC then I'd be a fool to buy a Colour Profile.
      BTW I captured the wave that nearly knocked me over, and killed my camera, in 96 frames a second goodness. The GH4 went out in a soggy blaze of glory.

    I have a G7 - M43 has benefits however... Shooting wide is very hard. Investing in M43 glass doesn't feel wise and you want the best glass not the glass that fits. Low light performance is noticeably worse. The crop factor IS ANNOYING - TRUST ME. If you arent Mr Money bags then you will probably want to buy older or even vintage lenses and it is so frustrating not being able to use them at the actual focal length OR APETURE. Tighter, slower and totally frustrating. These were the lessons I learnt. Think abou the glass you want FIRST. Don't let the camera dictate the glass - I learnt the hard way

    • @PhaseDriveVlogs

      I certainly won't deny that cine-cams like the BMPCC and Z-Cam producer a much more film-like image without much need for creative grading or specific use of lenses.
      However, I'm definitely of the opinion that you should make the best of the kit you have. I would much rather do more work with the camera I have to get the result I want instead of buying a whole new camera system.
