@Shaun I have to say that the caption made me think that you'd decided not to do your Scotland vlogs anymore. It was not a happy thought. I'm relieved to have been mistaken! I'm sorry your granny has decided to sell her house. My dad is now 89 years old and I will inherit his house when he passes away. He keeps saying he wants to sell it...I can't stand the thought of that house passing out of our family. My dad had two brothers [both deceased] and he is the only one of them who owns his own home; not even my grandparents owned their homes. I absolutely think you're onto something with your idea of shooting videos of people's weddings, engagement pictures/ videos, maybe some Christenings, graduations and anniversaries, etcetera. You have the knack for it and it would be a good money-making endeavor for you I think. Greetings from across the pond in eastern North Carolina! Hoping you and Teka are well. Take care and stay safe.
What a beautiful and rare home for Scotland! It would be such a luxury to have such a spacious modern home with such a large garden! I can relate about the sadness and nostalgia of losing a home that was home base for an extended family. I struggled when my parents sold the house that I grew up in. I grew up in that house, which was directly across the street from my Gma & Gpa’s house. They passed on a few years ago and my mom and her siblings sold it to divide the estate between the 5 of them. It hurt to have it leave the family. I live a mile away, but I cannot go down that street and see those 2 houses that so much of my life happened in! Side note: You ARE an amazing story teller and you’d be great at shooting and producing videos for couples at their weddings. Fantastic idea! Best of luck to you!
I was devastated when my mother sold my grandparents home in Ohio. My siblings and I had so many wonderful memories attached to that house. I was so sad. 😪
You are a storyteller Shaun. It’s a gift and when you enjoy what you do, it shows in the final product. Thank you for sharing your family home. So very lovely. The memories will never escape you. Remember you have to take time off to recharge in order to create - allow yourself that.
It's definitely a little sad when you sell a home that several generations of your family have lived in. I think I'd be taking those eagle sculptures with me, I really like them.
Went through this last month with my grandpa's home, he passed from Covid complications. That house was built by my 2nd great grandparents and passed down from generation to generation and our family lived there for over 120 years, its truly a huge loss and I'm sorry you're having to say goodbye.
@@Gemdragon10 The house is located in Spokane WA and everyone in the family has settled down on the other side of the country or on the other side of Washington, so no one is able to pick up and move over there. I would have gladly bought it, the house needs a ton of work from being so old and I just can't afford to move.
Shaun, I know the emotions of leaving a place that has been home. After our sons were out on their own we sold the house where we had raised them and shared years of life, meals, and growing up. As I walked the house for the last time to reminisce and say goodbye to that chapter of all our lives , it was striking. Despite thorough cleaning and painting I could smell cooking and sweaty boys home from football practice. Thank you for the reminder of what” home” really means.
Amazing to see Craigmillar Castle just over the hill from your Grandmother's house. If you remember, my grandmother was a Preston and I traced that side back to Craigmillar. I visited the Castle about 6 years ago.
Hi shaun Also when they bought little France caravan park there was an oak tree there and as far as I remember ( your grandad my uncle Gerald) said that the tree is the only thing left from little France and it is on one off the roundabouts in the hospital. I also remember the icecream van story's that he told us as kids lots of memories
I have always felt that undoing a home that is long and well-loved is like experiencing a death in a very real sense. The harmonies and comforts are so precarious that all it takes is the image of those empty floors to bring a keen grief to the hard front of your brain, memories at eye level before they start fighting gravity. I am sorry for your loss.
Go for it Shaun!!!!! You are a gifted and captivating storyteller.....making wedding videos for couples who want to document such an important event in their lives is a fabulous idea and you are just the precise man for the job!!!! The video you created for your sister's wedding was fantastic! Currently, I don't know anyone that has marriage plans, but I will definitely keep you in mind as soon as I do!
I lived a few hundred yards away from the site of The Kelloggs house in the 1950s and 1960s. I’m pretty sure that the competition to win the house took place in the 1960s, not the 1970s.
Well, you scared me at first; but still a nostalgic farewell. The house is iconic and easily to spot with the white eagles out front! Going from Craigmillar Castle back into town my students and I were able to wave at the house as we went by! This video was a lovely tribute!
Thank you for sharing your story. I was first attracted to your vlog by the honest enthusiasm you had for my country (America). It is very enlightening to watch as someone experiences the things I have grown up with for the first time! In a very visceral & heart-warming way, it's as if I can experience them as well. And, am reminded of how great we have it here. Since that time, I have greatly enjoyed the experience of exploring Scotland with you. My family has many roots in Britain, to include both Ireland and Scotland, and it has always been my dream to travel there and set foot where my ancestores once stood. Many of us here in America love our country and our history very much... But, I am often reminded how young our country really is. And, when I think of the depth of history surrounding your homeland and the rest of Europe, I sometimes find myself overwhelmed. We may love our history, but it is a mere drop in the bucket when compared with the rest of the world. So, thank you so very much for sharing your home, your country , and your story with us. Also, I think it would be a fantastic idea for you to offer your video services to others. Good luck to you sir! And, God bless!
What a fantastic story! Loved it. I love your grandparents house, maybe because I grew up in the 70's, I have huge nostalgia for all things 70's. I never knew that campsite existed, the hospital might not be here now if not for your grandad's campsite, someone might have built a housing scheme on that land! Amazing to think you could win a house on a cereal packet!! Those were the days! Also, your sister's wedding video was special!! I love your new business idea!
At the start of the video, which is lovely, I wondered why the house looked very 1960's modern. Then you explained the Kellogg connection. That's a great story. The house and property are inviting. Saying goodbye to a treasured family home is bittersweet. 🌟💜🌟
@@shaunvlog that's a beautiful tree in the frontbgarden, Shaun, with the qhite blossoms. Do you know what kind it is? And I agree with the comments on doing video for weddings, graduation, etc. Go for it!
I thought that the house looked different than most scottish homes. It's a beautiful home. I was stationed in Edzell, Scotland in the late 70's and I really regret not being able to return for a visit. take care Shaun hope to hear more from you.
My husband & I were married in Ballachulish in 2015. Perhaps when we do our vow renewal we could book you for a documentary film! Your granny’s house is amazing, and will be a beautiful home for a new family to love and create memories in. Welcome back to the Tube!
Kellogg's is headquartered in Kalamazoo, Michigan. As a child in the 1970s, we used to go on field trips to the Kellogg's factory. We used to be able to your it and see how cereal was made. As each person would leave, we would be given a small box of cereal as a gift.
@@LindaC616 You're right. It is (was?) Battle Creek. We didn't live close by, so my memories are from grade school, which was quite long ago! Thanks for the correction 😊
Such a beautiful house. The bird is a robin singing in the background in your sunny spot. I will never forget the beautiful song from when I lived in Kilwinning.
Houses and land are certainly history books with parts of us embedded within. Watching you silently walk through with the music in the background said it all to those of us that have walked before you...in your footsteps. You will take those chapters with you forever and tap into them when you need to remember. Thank you for sharing the home and story!
The house is lovely. The big windows and all the light ❤. I'm a sucker for family history, just bought my husband's grandparents house in a small town. Been in the family since 1941.
What a beautiful piece of property, not to mention the memories of your granny and the rest of your family there. It reminds me somewhat of my grandmother's house in California. Her home was sold quite a while ago, but it doesn't erase my memories of her.
I remember my great grandmother house being sold then my grandparents house being sold . So many memories and when I go home I still go by and shed a few tears but remember the best memories.
You are right about your ability to tell stories through images or video. I personally believe you can be very successful at it. So many times in people’s lives they could use your services. Stay confident and I’m sure you will succeed
I’m born and bred Edinburgh, passed Little France Camp site many times growing up and since, I didn’t realise your family once owned it, I also didn’t know the history of your house either! Really interesting stuff! Imagine winning a house from the back of a cereal box?! Unreal! Only in the 70’s lol 😂 Yeah, it’s sad when things come to an end and you have to move on, but you’ll always have your wonderful memories of this unique house, and no one can take them away from you. You and your family are inspirational, Shaun…shows how hard graft and determination pays off! Thanks very much for sharing! 💙🌻
The original Kellogg company is still in Battle Creek, Michigan. I live about an hour from there and remember touring it when I was in grade school; we got an ice cream sundae topped with a delicious cereal! They still produce cereal in Battle Creek!
I feel ya. I grew up in my family home from 1954 (built for them) and took care of Dad in it till his end. Had to sell it cause we couldn't afford to keep it and live elsewhere. I would have if I could. But, sold it to a young man who LOVED mid-century modern homes and will appreciate it. He had looked at 31 homes prior (poor real estate agent lol !) and said when he walked up the driveway to see it, he knew he wanted it. That helps. The 250+ year old Oak in the front yard was like a friend. I'm a sentimental person , that home was precious to myself and sister. When I visit Florida, I will go by and see it. SO many memories. Shaun, I am glad you took video on it. Best wishes !
i absolutely LOVE that idea of you doing wedding videos!!!! When I was planning my wedding years ago I wanted a traditional Scottish wedding lol this, now, old lass from Virginia in the United States. My Scottish roots hail from Great Glen and my 5th great grandfather emigrated in 1740. Oh what joyous history and fantastic roots I have!!!!!
Thanks for the tour of that beautiful house. I'm glad you had such a great place in your life. As to the side-hustle go for it. I agree you have a gift
Have another idea for your videography portfolio-ancestry. Have the client do the research and you trace the moving and places. (?) I live about 2 hours from Battle Creek, Mi., US. Home to Kelloggs’ cereals. Haven’t had/taken the chance to explore the place, as I drive an 18-wheeler for a career. One of these ‘years’, maybe! Take an inordinate amount of photographs of your Grandparents home. Write the history of it for the new family, so that information doesn’t get ‘lost in the shuffle’! ❤️
You should do wedding videos or special occasions. . Your sister's wedding video was very professional and gorgeous. Good luck!! Glad you took a break for your health. LOVE YOU ❤
I know how you feel, after my grandparents passed away my parents lived in the home until they both passed away. In all most of my 65 years were in that house and even lived there for a short time. My brothers and I knew we had to sell it but it was so sad to say goodbye. Cherish your memories and hold them close to your heart.
I must say I was a bit befuddled why you would all let go of such a beautiful place! My ideal home with all those windows and being able to look upon such beautiful scenery. Thanks for the explanation
This is beautiful. Thanks for showing us these kinds of vids. This is the kind of recording you can't really put a price on when you look back on it in the future.
You are an awesome photographer/videographer! Your videos are amazing! I think you should go for it! You obviously have the knack for it, as well as the equipment. Your granny's home was beautiful! So much light!
That’s a perfect idea. You’re very talented. I will miss seeing that house. The dogs playing in the snow. But it’s sad to leave a house that you know and love every inch of. I still have my Grandparents key on my key ring. I can’t take it off. We’re from North Carolina and we eat Kellogg’s Cornflakes, Frosted Flakes. Take care Shaun and Teka!
North Georgia girl here (hello my fellow southerners lol) and I live in my great aunts home, my grandma died when my dad was just a year and a half old and his dad ran off so my great aunt and great grandmother raised my dad. Now I happily live in their home, it’s precious. I think keeping that key on your key ring is so sweet 💖
Oh Shaun I am watching and feeling your sadness. ( nostalgia). I have loved that house from the first vlog, many years ago now. I loved the walks with your dogs going to the castle grounds. Such a beautiful area. Also the wonderful morning sounds from your garden. I am sending best wishes for your Mom and Dad who must be feeling a loss right now. New Adventures ahead tho! ❤
An end to all the Craigmillar Castle jaunts! 😔 such a nostalgic thing to say goodbye to houses, where lives & memories have flourished ☀️💙 🏡 Good-bye 👋 Don't limit yourself to weddings, Shaun 🤔 christenings, barmitzvahs, weddings, engagements, high school graduations....go for it! You have the talent, flaunt it! 🤣 hello from Denmark 🌸🌱
I definitely agree he has a real gift for using video to tell very moving stories and show venues in their best light. So not just weddings and occasions but think tourist bureau’s for various different counties or towns and such looking to promote their area.
The video of your sister's wedding was absolutely beautiful. You definitely have the skills and a good eye for photography. I think whomever hires you to document a special occasion or to promote tourism would be very pleased with the results. Take a chance and go for it! You may surprise yourself with how well it turns out. 🙂
Thank you for sharing. 🙏🏻 Yes, Kellogs' is a well known brand, actually I think in whole Europe, for sure in all Scandinavian neighbouring countries. 🎦 Please, do it! There is a special tone of yours, kind of animated nature (i don't know how to put it in english) It speaks right to the heart ♥️. Your sisters' wedding video was fantastic! ✨ You go LAD! 👍 You will be successful, I'm sure. Hugz from Sweden 🇸🇪

Hi Shaun! Missed you and your videos! Your sister's video was beautiful, you did a great job telling their story. Follow your heart. Oh, and your grandmother's house was beautiful.
So sad…..no words except cherish the memories….that is something no can take away from you. I drive by the house my mom died in….I can never go in that house again but I have the many good memories.
Thank you so much for this vlog of a beautiful and unique home. We were so lucky that you shared it with us. I will never forget how much one of the vlogs that you shot during a snowstorm comforted me while I was going through a difficult time. Thanks a lot.
I agree, i always enjoy your stories. I do know how you feel about the home. I was living in New Mexico when the folks sold our childhood home back in Florida. So many memories. Never got to say goodbye.
My grandparent's house was the same. It was EVERYBODIES' house. I have a huge extended family with 20-something cousins, and we would all go to "The Orr Ranch" for every holiday, birthday, whattheheckever day. When they both passed away the ranch went through some weird stages, and in the end got sold. At the time I was really upset, because I seriously grew up there. I spent more time there than anyone; almost entire summers. Many years later it still bothers me, but I'm a bit more a peace with it being the end of a beautiful very long era. Thank you for sharing yours.
I think your videography business idea for people's special events is a great idea, Shaun. You do have a natural talent for video and editing. I especially love when you do your aerial footage. I will watch your sister's ceremony next. I have also been taking a break from youtube (watching). I think back on how I came to this channel, and it was because you were discussing Outlander, but I am so glad I found your site. Your content has been varied and always interesting. I have never been to Scotland, and Outlander really isn't enough to pull me to a modern-day Scotland, but you have piqued my interest enough to want to visit. Thank you and good luck whatever direction you go. If you are able to share your content, I will gladly follow along. 😀
It's hard to leave somewhere you love, but wonderful to keep all those memories. Life is about growth and change but it's sometimes hard and sometimes scary but with hard work always worthwhile.
Thank you for sharing this touching moment of your heart. What a house! I Always did think it was special, just from your videos. Happy journeys to you and your family going forward. ❤️
You are a great story teller with videos. I wish I had an event to document. Never give up what you love. Something will become of it. Somethings just take time. Your right about having your grandparents home documented. It is a great heritage to pass along and your a part of it. Glad your back! I look forward to your videos.
Thanks for sharing your memories of your family's home. Memories are something that can never be taken away from you. You are correct in believing that your thoughts about important parts of your life can be stored through the internet and be available for future generations to enjoy. It's good and also healthy to take a break now and then. Now that you have "recharged" yourself I will be looking forward to seeing your upcoming programs. Take care and have a pleasant and rewarding week. 👍🤗❤🙏🌎
Thanks so much for sharing your family home! It’s lovely!! I definitely think you should offer videography for weddings, elopement and the sort! Go for it!
What a treat to hear more about the place and your people. I list touch with you in changing phones and getting caught up in the Covid debacle. Good to see you again
We don't have anyone in the family right now who has a big occasion coming up! However, I wish I'd known about your idea earlier when my niece graduated from Cambridge with her doctorate degree since only her dad was able to go to England for the ceremony and it would have been nice to have a really good video of her graduation for the family. I'm glad you're going to be making videos again! With all the craziness in this world we weren't sure what happened to you or your family.
A great thought about doing wedding/anniversary videos. Just a thought, but maybe travelers would enjoy you filming a part of their journey --- like around places in Scotland, or elsewhere in Europe. They'd have something special to memorialize their trip, and, if they'd be willing to let you share with your UA-cam viewers -- those of us who'd like to travel, but are restrained by the current state of things, might be able to enjoy living vicariously, as well. Might be fun for you to meet these new people, as it would be for many of us who are still more isolated than we'd like to be.

Really interesting stuff! Imagine winning a house from the back of a cereal box?! Unreal! Only in the 70’s lol 😂
Yeah, it’s sad when things come to an end and you have to move on, but you’ll always have your wonderful memories of this unique house, and no one can take them away from you.
You and your family are inspirational, Shaun…shows how hard graft and determination pays off!
Thanks very much for sharing! 💙🌻
Definitely not a typical house in that part of Scotland.
The original Kellogg company is still in Battle Creek, Michigan. I live about an hour from there and remember touring it when I was in grade school; we got an ice cream sundae topped with a delicious cereal! They still produce cereal in Battle Creek!
Thoughtful & touching, the way we were.......homesick for a time as much as a place.
Sounds like a fantastic side hustle Shaun 👍🏻🇦🇺👍🏻
Love the Kellogg house story. I eat many of if their cereals. Frosted Flakes, Raisin Bran, Shredded Wheat, and many more.
Going through the same thing now, letting go of a family home full of memories is rough. But we cherish the memories and we soldier on 😞
I’m so sad for you and myself. So many memories, and so many changes in Edinburgh. It’s a lovely home.
An 18-wheeler!? You go on with your bad self, Mary!
(From a Kazoo born fellow troll) 🙂
What a beautiful home. I'm sure it will bring so many more generations joy and health.
Wow, good seeing this , I lived about 120 yards from here late 80’s onwards.
Yes Kellogg cereal is really popular, we have those cereals in America today!😊
I must say I was a bit befuddled why you would all let go of such a beautiful place! My ideal home with all those windows and being able to look upon such beautiful scenery. Thanks for the explanation
Put simply, money. It’s an expensive place and nobody can afford it
This is beautiful. Thanks for showing us these kinds of vids. This is the kind of recording you can't really put a price on when you look back on it in the future.
The house and property are a beautiful serene place.
I really love the huge windows in that house, so much great natural lighting!
Greetings from a fellow North Carolinian. New Bern, NC here. 😃😊🤗👋
Thank you for sharing a private part of your life and family. ❤❤👍
What a lovely home!!! I can feel the many happy memories that were made here….
A lovely look at a lovely house. What is that bit of piano music? It's quite lovely and very well suited to the melancholy-memory mood of the piece.
An end to all the Craigmillar Castle jaunts! 😔 such a nostalgic thing to say goodbye to houses, where lives & memories have flourished ☀️💙
🏡 Good-bye 👋
Don't limit yourself to weddings, Shaun 🤔 christenings, barmitzvahs, weddings, engagements, high school graduations....go for it!
You have the talent, flaunt it! 🤣
hello from Denmark 🌸🌱
thank you, really appreciate this encouragement :)
I recently had to do this with my grandparents house too. They used to watch me all the time so I have A LOT of memories there. It's always hard.
GREAT HOUSE AND MODERN CONSIDERING WHEN IT WAS BUILT , BUT ALSO A BEAUTIFUL LOCATION WITH THE GARDEN, THE MEMORIES OF FAMILY AND FRIENDS THERE WILL REMAIN TAKE CARE BROTHER
Hi Shaun! Missed you and your videos! Your sister's video was beautiful, you did a great job telling their story. Follow your heart. Oh, and your grandmother's house was beautiful.
A wonderful house and memories! Very cool!☮️❤️
It can be hard to give up your past, but you don't live there... thanks for sharing.. I so wish I could buy your grandmother's house...
So cool to be able to be apart of that house's history! Great memories to pass down to the kids and grand kids. Good to hear from you Shaun!
So sad…..no words except cherish the memories….that is something no can take away from you. I drive by the house my mom died in….I can never go in that house again but I have the many good memories.
This video will give you comfort and smiles when you are old.
Thank you for sharing this touching family story. 💙
Thank you so much for this vlog of a beautiful and unique home. We were so lucky that you shared it with us. I will never forget how much one of the vlogs that you shot during a snowstorm comforted me while I was going through a difficult time. Thanks a lot.
Thank you for bringing me to Scotland from Dayton Ohio
I’m from Memphis! How cool! Thank you for sharing your story.
What a lovely story about your family’s life. Thank you for sharing it, Shaun.❤️🥰
A very beautiful home.
What a beautiful home
Welcome back sir. Lovely house/home. Always sad when you have to say goodbye to something so dear. Good luck with all the rest of your plans
Impressive place, hope your parent's new place works out the same for your family.
We live across the city of Grand Rapids, Michigan from Kelloggsville, and about an hour and a half from Battle Creek, where Kelloggs began ; )
Bittersweet Memories. I don’t know about being an International “Wedding” photographer. But interesting concept. It would be interesting.
Love your stories Shaun!! Lovely tribute to a very special place. ❤️🍀
What a lovely home! How lucky you were to live there! I think your plans for the side hustle are great!
