That video is up there with some of the best van life stories I've seen (and I've seen a few). If there's a lesson to be learned, never be afraid to knock on other van's doors when you need help. There is a fantastic like minded community out there.

Some great laughs and sad tears in this episode. What fantastic story telling and I never suspected the final problem of no gas. These are memories you will treasure in the future even if they seem hard now. It’s all character building stuff. I was thinking of going the diesel heater and cooker route if we ever change our van but I have to say your experience has put me off now. LPG may be getting hard to find but I think it suffers far less problems than the diesel heaters do. When the shops are open again I recommend you get yourselves an emergency camping stove, like they use when people go backpacking, or a spirit stove that can be brought out when the gas runs out. They don’t take up much room and can save the day. This video deserves to go viral it’s so good. You are true UA-camrs. When things start going wrong most people put the camera down but it’s exactly the time to keep it rolling so bloody well done filming this story. May 2022 remove the curse of the diesel heater and bring you good fortune. All the very best from us ❤️😁👍

Just started watching your videos and admire you both for taking the decision to live life in a van. It is so important that you and others have decided to vlog your lifestyle so everyone can see there are some tough hurdles to get over, and maybe it will show it isn't for everyone. The main thing was you got your heater sorted, and I loved that you could laugh at Brussels sprouts/onion/crisp sandwiches for Christmas dinner. Take care.

I wish you the best of luck and adventures in your van life. My suggestion is to go south for the winter to somewhere warmer so you dont have to suffer through all that bitter cold

This happened to me once so I went out and bought a camping stove that works off the gas canisters, it’s brilliant and also can act as a heater to warm the van up in an emergency, for £20 you are sorted. Go outdoors have them in stock.
the other top tip with a gas canister espically with colder temperatures is to shake it up to reenergise the gas molecules. I am so sorry to watch the video, what a time for it to shut down on you :? thanks for sharing the hones side of uk van life
Appreciate your honest representation of van life. It has helped me to conclude that I would not take on the $100,000+ that I would spend for a van conversion, the perils of breakdowns and repairs, water and gas worry, pursuit of overnight parking, and general crowded discomfort. I think I would be better off, keeping my house and planning several trips during the year, staying at various extended stay hotel chains that have kitchens. Although not vegetarian, I focus on healthy eating and easily could satisfy my requirements by taking my seasonings, an Instant Pot, and an electric frying pan. Best wishes for your continued adventures, which, of course, I will continue to follow.
Aww I really feel for you both; you seem to have had one problem after another. Keeping warm is a must at this time of year, so at least your van is now cosy again. Hope you get to have your big Christmas meal as soon as you get gas. It could be worse; like having to work and not enjoying each others company. I am turning into a bit of a Vegan myself , I no longer like the texture of meat. And live off soups with a soup maker . French Onion. Lentil carrot and coriander , Broccoli and Stilton , Mushroom etc , we then reheat it transfer it into a food flask and have it with a sandwich 🥪 or toasty it’s quite sufficient in the Caravan .
Lovely chilled vid. We have been to Castlerigg Circle so many times but never experienced Solstace there. It was so nice to see people enjoying the day/night.

These are the stories we look back and laugh about! I remember one christmas the electricity went off and our neighbours burglar alarm was going off for hours ... It was hellish but funny in a dysfunctional way. PS I'm Irish and Tayto sambos were gourmet food in our house growing up and my husband used to eat sugar sambos as a child ... Yum!

Keep the faith it will all work out and as a caravaner who has got caught out with no gas always carry 2bottles cos they never run out at a convenient time . You are correct , we have two large calor gas heaters Flogas it’s cheaper £32 a bottle we bought the bottles second hand we went for 2 for £20 and cos we ate Senior Citizens he let us have the 4 for £20 . So we always replace the bottles when they run out , in our 2 caravans we always have a Calor and a Flogas in each full. So we have a fan heater for £10 in the caravans and just take hot water bottles to bed on a night we are fine with that but may put bubble wrap on the windows in winter.
Reminds me of 1977 when my dad was a fireman on strike. No Christmas dinner, just sausages and beans with baked potatoes cooked in the metal bin outside the fire station. Second time was coming off of a 14hr Christmas Day hospital shift and my husband had forgotten to take the meat out of the freezer.... too tired to actually care! Mince pies and baileys were delicious that night!
Oh my days, I so wanted to reach through the screen and give you both a hug 🤗..... what a few days you've had! Iv been living in vans caravans busses and trucks for 30 years, I got one thing to say, a wood burner is the number 1 most important thing in a living vehicle

If you need perspective, I'm just 20 miles from tornado devastation--seeing homes destroyed really is an eye-opener. We are feeling very lucky.
Liam / Jan , I cant believe that after all the stress of the van heater you ended up running out of gas for your cooker , and am only 55 minutes away from there no I've got no gas but you could have come to our house and cooked your food at our home xxxx . I feel your pain, I’m living in my van and I’ve also run out of gas recently (mine also works the heater) thankfully I was lucky I’d just cooked my meal! It taught me I either need another gas bottle or a back up cooker. Vanlife is so rewarding but also tough at times. Love you guys my fav vegan couple 😊💕

Just came across your video, I understand the problems you guys are going through. I recently purchased a van for about 10k had nothing but issues with the engine....I haven't even been away in it yet and have to spend nearly 2k getting it nearly right. Really got me down and felt like jacking the van life in even before it got started. I am on my own at the moment so had nobody to share the problems with which just amplified the issues I was having. Hopefully things are looking up, had the mot done today and passed with no advisories. You seem a strong lovely couple and with people who are fortunate enough to have that, everything else is not such a big problem. Best wishes David.

@@ThoseHappyDays just keep positive we have the best outcome when we keep that mental positivity going it can be hard but you got this ps i love my hot water bottle , 2 years ago a week before christmas my boiler crashed we had no hot water , no heat we remained that way for 4 weeks our housing association is well not very good christmas day presents included things like bath bombs somebody even brought me a tea towel with all the fav herbs on it , , the first bath i had with bath bomb was the best bath ever lol just being able to wash up without boiling a kettle was wonderful , when you get your gas dinner will taste the best ever wishing you all the best ps loving the episodes keep me going watching you guys having fun take care

December 4 2022: I so love this video with the night walk thru the quaint town. My goodness the donuts look so scrumptious, but loaded with sugar. You both are very active and I know these will not budge at all your dietary needs😊. This video reminded me of my tour in Germany in the US Army. I was stationed there twice. First in Frankfurt than Stuttgart. As a child my Dad was also in the military and we lived in the American housing in Mannheim. Christmas was always so magically there. But I miss the quaint shops in the little towns. Appreciate your time and sorry for the horrid heater concerns.

I think you need to avoid that area like the plague. Loving your videos. My husband and I hope to go to the UK in June and are thinking of hiring a motor home to travel around, so watching all your travels have been really helpful, I am 61, and he is 66, so we need a bit of comfort & more importantly, a loo on hand.

Not sure of you could fit a small Safefill bottle in your van - with these bottles they're refillable and you can see how much gas is left. Fingers crossed you managed to get some gas today.

You could have kept warm by heating a brick on the gas stove. Then you'd have had to think about recharging the gas bottle. It worked for my family of 4 in a VW camper van in the snow covered Sierra Nevada. The brick can get red hot without exploding unlike a stone. we left a window slightly open to avoid getting drained of oxygen. It was very effective..
Just remember though it may not have been the first van Christmas you were expecting it will definitely be one you never forget and will look back and laugh one day!

Last Christmas, my oven broke down, just as guests arrived for Christmas Eve. It meant not only could I not cook for guests, I also couldn’t cook my Christmas Goose for the family. Sometimes, we all get bad luck. I know you had the diesel heater issue as well. I think it’s just teething problems. Perhaps you can get some gauge to prevent the surprise of no gas happening again. I've seen in other peoples channels that those heaters cause massive problems and couple people,e found that the wee wires inside the main heater box were fried! changed them and all was well. of course after the exhaust, filters are replaced as well. good luck. I'd be getting g a micro wood stove and instal a pipe chimney

That said I totally feel for you and had we known on Christmas Day I’d have driven up to you with our Cadac or some gas. I know it’s only one day but I guess it was kind of the last straw. Make sure you have a carbon monoxide alarm for peace of mind.
A great idea...can you get the little one pound cannisters in the UK? A few of those as spares can make all the difference.

I have two litle campingaz bottles whit a regulator just for changing
The bottle
You are correct , we have two large calor gas heaters Flogas it’s cheaper £32 a bottle we bought the bottles second hand we went for 2 for £20 and cos we ate Senior Citizens he let us have the 4 for £20 . So we always replace the bottles when they run out , in our 2 caravans we always have a Calor and a Flogas in each full. So we have a fan heater for £10 in the caravans and just take hot water bottles to bed on a night we are fine with that but may put bubble wrap on the windows in winter.
It's the best Christmas you never forget it... It's perfect...

Reminds me of 1977 when my dad was a fireman on strike. No Christmas dinner, just sausages and beans with baked potatoes cooked in the metal bin outside the fire station.
Second time was coming off of a 14hr Christmas Day hospital shift and my husband had forgotten to take the meat out of the freezer.... too tired to actually care! Mince pies and baileys were delicious that night!
Oh my days, I so wanted to reach through the screen and give you both a hug 🤗..... what a few days you've had!
The upside was that, as you say, it was just a Christmas dinner; you are still in the van, with each other and Christmas can happen whenever you're ready.

If you need perspective, I'm just 20 miles from tornado devastation--seeing homes destroyed really is an eye-opener. We are feeling very lucky.

Liam / Jan , I cant believe that after all the stress of the van heater you ended up running out of gas for your cooker , and am only 55 minutes away from there no I've got no gas but you could have come to our house and cooked your food at our home xxxx . I feel your pain, I’m living in my van and I’ve also run out of gas recently (mine also works the heater) thankfully I was lucky I’d just cooked my meal! It taught me I either need another gas bottle or a back up cooker. Vanlife is so rewarding but also tough at times.

Just came across your video, I understand the problems you guys are going through. I recently purchased a van for about 10k
had nothing but issues with the engine....I haven't even been away in it yet and have to spend nearly 2k getting it nearly right.
Really got me down and felt like jacking the van life in even before it got started. I am on my own at the moment so had nobody to share the problems with which just amplified the issues I was having. Hopefully things are looking up, had the mot done today and passed with no advisories. You seem a strong lovely couple and with people who are fortunate enough to have that, everything else is not such a big problem. Best wishes David.

@@ThoseHappyDays just keep positive we have the best outcome when we keep that mental positivity going it can be hard but you got this ps i love my hot water bottle , 2 years ago a week before christmas my boiler crashed we had no hot water , no heat we remained that way for 4 weeks our housing association is well not very good christmas day presents included things like bath bombs somebody even brought me a tea towel with all the fav herbs on it , , the first bath i had with bath bomb was the best bath ever lol just being able to wash up without boiling a kettle was wonderful , when you get your gas dinner will taste the best ever wishing you all the best ps loving the episodes keep me going watching you guys having fun take care

December 4 2022: I so love this video with the night walk thru the quaint town. My goodness the donuts look so scrumptious, but loaded with sugar. You both are very active and I know these will not budge at all your dietary needs😊. This video reminded me of my tour in Germany in the US Army. I was stationed there twice. First in Frankfurt than Stuttgart. As a child my Dad was also in the military and we lived in the American housing in Mannheim. Christmas was always so magically there. But I miss the quaint shops in the little towns. Appreciate your time and sorry for the horrid heater concerns.

I think you need to avoid that area like the plague. Loving your videos. My husband and I hope to go to the UK in June and are thinking of hiring a motor home to travel around, so watching all your travels have been really helpful, I am 61, and he is 66, so we need a bit of comfort & more importantly, a loo on hand.

Not sure of you could fit a small Safefill bottle in your van - with these bottles they're refillable and you can see how much gas is left. Fingers crossed you managed to get some gas today.

You could have kept warm by heating a brick on the gas stove. Then you'd have had to think about recharging the gas bottle. It worked for my family of 4 in a VW camper van in the snow covered Sierra Nevada. The brick can get red hot without exploding unlike a stone. we left a window slightly open to avoid getting drained of oxygen. It was very effective..
Ah yeah, I have similarly heard something with terracotta pots and candle lights...Good for an emergency 🚐🙏

Last Christmas, my oven broke down, just as guests arrived for Christmas Eve. It meant not only could I not cook for guests, I also couldn’t cook my Christmas Goose for the family. Sometimes, we all get bad luck. I know you had the diesel heater issue as well. I think it’s just teething problems. Perhaps you can get some gauge to prevent the surprise of no gas happening again. Great channel though. Thank you!

I've seen in other peoples channels that those heaters cause massive problems and couple people,e found that the wee wires inside the main heater box were fried! changed them and all was well. of course after the exhaust, filters are replaced as well. good luck. I'd be getting g a micro wood stove and instal a pipe chimney

That said I totally feel for you and had we known on Christmas Day I’d have driven up to you with our Cadac or some gas. I know it’s only one day but I guess it was kind of the last straw.
