That was just absolutely wonderful. Brilliant Classics really is the go to channel and recording label, if you are interested in classical music out of the minimalist school. I even did not consider that genre, before I stumbled over it on this channel and now I absolutely love it. One other comment wrote, that he had never heard trumpet and organ together before, which I am actually stunned to hear: That is a very common constellation, at least here in the Danish art music scene. I even went to a funeral once, where the music was a classical piece performed by the organist and a very good trumpetist and I have heard jazz music in church also with that constellation. My friend from Savage Rose, Thomas Koppel, also made many pieces of music for trumpet and pipe organ and also for recorder and pipe organ, by the way. His music even was a part of a church festival 15 years ago, which were arranged to celebrate Joseph Haydn and his famous E flat major concert for trumpet and organ, and pieces of JS Bach were also performed on that concert. So, it is safe to say, that trumpet and organ is a settled and common constellation within classical music, and also just so beautiful and expressive.
In music " Canto Ostinato " there is beginning and in seems that there is no end to it... The sound patterns alternate and repeat, surprise and fascinate the listener. Indeed, this is a strikingly effective arrangement of a work Simeon Ten Holt!
Es ist meine erste Gelegenheit, dieses einzigartig konstruierten und ein bisschen enigmatischen Werk anzuhören. Erstaunlich fein komponiert und wunderschön intepretiert im relativ langsamen Tempo mit brillantem doch sanftem Ton der genialen Trompete und warmherzigen Tönen der ebenso genialen Orgel. Der intime und perfekt entsprechende Dialog zwischen den beiden Virtuosen ist wahrlich beeindruckend. Danke für den verborgenen Schatz!
Toen ik weer een nieuwe uitvoering van de Canto zag hield ik mijn hart vast, er zijn zoveel drakerige versies gemaakt. Aan de andere kant; dit is wel Eric. En ik moet zeggen; ik ben niet teleurgesteld, parchtig. Zo'n andere sfeer dan alleen piano, zo onvergelijkbaar en dat maakt het fantastisch. Nogmaals PRACHTIG!
I’ve listened to so much contemporary jazz and new age not to mention stuff on the ECM label … this music … there is no THERE there. It just doesn’t work for me.
