Churn Dash was the first quilt block I made with HSTs and Friendship Star was the first star block I made. Those 2 blocks, along with Disappearing Pinwheels and Log Cabin are still at the top of my list of favorites

New sub here. Having fun, that’s what Jerry Garcia said life was all about. Kudos. What’s up with the quilt in the background. It reminds me of the Volcom logo. Let’s make that! I’m kinda new at quilting but have made 9 quilts since I started when covy hit. So refreshing to see a gentleman doing quilts. Right on.

Instead of messing with 7/8 inches, I just use 1 inch and trim down. I find it more precise that way. Thanks for your videos.

Yes, it is a parallelogram (has at least 2 opposite sides that are parallel-)one of my kids is just finishing this at school or I wouldn't remember either! And I love your energy and humor in these tutorials. Thanks for the tutorials (really helpful and fun) and the good vibes we all can use especially these days.

Your ruler looks like a Quilter's Select and I have that one and like it but I also have the Creative Grids ~~Itty-bitty eights(?) or whatever is called. I don't use it often but maybe it world help some folks. Plus adding the highlighter tape.

Traditionally, the center square of a Friendship Star is a solid with the maker’s signature on it.
Love the three color star version!

It would be cute if each of the friendship stars had a miniature sampler (ex: 9-patch, 4-patch, wonky star, pinwheel, etc) that came from a mini block swap!

The Friendship star is the only block I have never been able to do. All instructions make them with half square triangles. We can see that. But where is the quarter inch so that you don't lose the point in your star??? I'm totally baffled and no one shows how to get that quarter in into the half square triangle. Help please.

7/8… why ? If you are not a “perfect” cutter the square might end up smaller and needed to be redone.
Much easier to round, instead of 3 7/8 cut 4. And then resize the final square.

I don’t know if it’s called a parallelogram, I would call them an italicized rectangle lol
