Thanks! Your contribution will help more people all over (including parents of Deaf children) to learn sign language!
American Sign Language (ASL) taught by Dr. Bill Vicars who is Deaf/hh. He holds an earned doctorate (accredited) in Deaf Studies from Lamar University in Texas and teaches Deaf Studies and ASL full-time (as of this post) as an tenured full-Professor at a major four-year state university.) These videos do not use sound. The lessons are taught without voice. If the signing seems fast you are encouraged to first study the lessons at www.Lifeprint.com and then come back and watch the video. This is an actual ASL student. You can learn along with her as she progresses. For additional lessons and signing information, visit Lifeprint.com.

Hello ASL Heroes!!!
Hey, I could really use your help.
If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you. A small donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com.
You can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here right now and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!”

I really like your uploads. I'm trying to self teach myself ASL (with a friend! :P) and your videos have worked wonders! thank you so much for doing this as often as you do :)
Thank you very much, May Jehovah God bless you and your family.
Not gonna lie, I was looking for basically this video two weeks ago preparing for an interview, and here it is right after lol
Life is like that eh?
@@sign-language I think you are Canadian, eh.
Woah...that is so cool...I didn't know that Canadians use "eh" a lot until I just googled it now as a result of your comment. Wolverine (the Marvel character) is from Canada so Canada must be a great place! (But I"m not from there and have yet to visit.)
I like these sessions am learning a lot
I am employed at a local Chick-fil-A and have wanted to learn sign language for a while, I am still struggling a bit with some of the techniques we use cause I have not been able to find a video to help a lot of different things we serve, but your videos have helped so much. My boss loves that I speak sign language, I am his only employee that does .THANK YOU😁❤

The deaf student in my CAD course prefers the "what's up?" or "what-do?" signs over the "up-to-now" sign. I thought it was used as like "Hey, so what are you up-to-now(adays)?" and just now I'm realizing "up-to-now" is referencing the current state of something. So, I asked him "up-to-now, you?" haha
Indeed, the HOW-YOU UP-TO-NOW ua-cam.com/video/0LwIidR_1xo/v-deo.html
phrase tends toward more of a meaning of:
It's been a while! How have you been doing!
or
It's been ages! How have you been doing!
The WHAT'S-UP!?! sign is great (and common) for more casual interactions.
Of possible interest is that the California Subject Examination for Teachers CSET:ASL subtest III study guide uses WHAT'S-UP as one of the practice answers and states in the answer key that "the expression WHAT'S-UP" is too informal to use within the formal setting of a job interview."
Source: www.ctcexams.nesinc.com/content/docs/CSET_Prep/CS_188items.pdf
(That same study guide includes questionable advice elsewhere but the point I'm making is that the guide writers / test authors feel that WHAT'S-UP is definitely a casual sign -- not intended for more formal situations such as a job interview.)
@bill Vicars I've been learning ASL for approximately two months now. I'm able to understand a lot of signs now and I really love sign language. I was wondering if you can recommend me a good book to keep learning ASL. I appreciate the great work you do. I love your videos. You're hilarious! Thanks so much for the hard work.
Dear Mr. Vicars:
I have learned ASL when I was in undergrad. I am in grad school. Oh, I miss ASL so much. Love watching your videos. I was wondering one thing, are you deaf, hard-of-hearing, or hearing?
See: lifeprint.com/asl101/pages-layout/instructor.htm
Please do a lesson teaching us what classifiers are and how to use them I need to know for my asl class... I take it online so its harder than it seems
Brookee: I thought I had already posted some classifiers videos but I'm not finding them in a search of my channel. Here is a basic sheet listing classifier handshapes:
www.lifeprint.com/asl101/pages-signs/classifiers/classifiers-main.htm
One of these times I need to do some "classifiers" (depictive signing) videos.
Dr. Bill sorry for this question, but I am learning sign language for 1 year and some months. Syntax is really confusing me do you have a video or a link which can help me? When I grow up I want to be like you! Love you, keep going!!!

she did good
Really enjoy your teaching videos. Can I donate by check to help with domain, I don't use Internet for for any reason of finance or purchases.
Jerry,
Sure, I accept checks. See this page for my contact information:

Thank you in advance!

Im sad you didnt ask her all the questions in the end, to make it an actual interview, ha!
Please add captions to your videos. Thanks 💕
Maybe someday I'll add (full) captions but realistically I only want to provide enough scaffolding to enable and facilitate learning. If you find that you need captions to understand the video then I'd recommend you go back and start with "Lesson 1" at Lifeprint.com and work your way up through the lessons. Then re-watch this video. The person sitting with me is an "ASL 2" student.
i'm stil learning ASL but i find that with the video screen in the background plus the use of context clues there is no need for captions. Good luck, Gary!
Me too ASL
