I wish you did some more Deuce videos, it would be nice to see one on the full air system. You know from the air pump to the under dash manifold to the wipers & brakes and including the air governor. I don’t know all of it but did see a cloudless videos that touched on it but there needs to be a more full complete break down on its rout & functions. Thanks B.C. Don’t know if you’ll see this note or reply but it’s worth a try. You put some history in there & diagrams and pictures & jokes. Your great Love your videos
If you get a military vehicle, GET THE MANUAL! There's a SPECIFIC manual for every military vehicle called a "Lubrication Order". It will tell you EVERYTHING than needs to be lubricated, how often, and what specifically to lubricate it with.
you helped me decide to get an M35A2.. i love mine, and am having mucho fun, pulled a stuck dude out of mud today, pulling a small house soon ...useful..fun...cool and dependable. i can't say enough about them.mine was 12 grand...very little rust, and nice top just need new supports, for troop cover and has new style cover...not canvass...camping beast
You should take that rig on Trooper Tyree's October 2022 Great Smoky Mountains Convoy. See HISTORY in MOTION magazine 'Events' listing of the Military Vehicle Preservation Association.
I would go on my computer and list them all in a doc file and print this out so you don't miss any. I have done this for the change over for my generator when I lose power in hurricane, and other things that if I miss a step things could get bad. Just make a check list print out and mark off them as you do them. Maybe you don't forget as easy as I do. But making a check list doesn't take much time and could help you keep your Deuce working longer. No I don't have one wished I did!
Can't get to the grease fittings on the winch driveshaft? Disengage the drum clutch in the winch and you can turn the shaft to get to them. Also put both the transmission and transfer in neutral to allow you to access those fittings. If you are going to have a problem with u-jointsnut is usually on this shaft A M35WW has 37 grease fittings
Did you forget to mention that any M35 owner should have a lubrication order which identifies all the grease points and other oils to use. You forgot the 3 fittings on the clutch and brake pedal pivots, the speedometer drive, rear axle reunions, tie rod ends, clutch pivot shaft in bell housing, pintle hook and king pins. And don't forget the oil can points.
My favorite smaller chain oil & lube shop told me their grease gun doesn't work & management won't replace it 'cause so few vehicles have zerk fittings. I just got new Moog ' Problem Solvers ' sway bar links. Moog states the consumer must grease the parts before use. I am dumbfounded how few shops have grease gun for zerk fittings. Going forward, I will skip zerk fittings ( I stay in an apartment and can't store anymore tools! ). BTW: you have Prediabetes. Greatly reduce sugar/bread/fast food. Peace.
There is 1 on each bogie too, where they are attached to the frame, one approaches them from below, between the back tires. And back. And 1 rear at the coupling device for wagons 1 or 2 where the pedals are attached under the cab floor. Maybe I also forgot some one :)
Sweet! Thanks. Had mine for a couple years and I know I need to. I'll head over to the forums to get the list I'm sure someone has, but thanks for the how-to and advice. Great stuff, brother. Keep it up!
It's an interesting phenomenon you touch on here. Americans as a whole tend to be early adopters of new tech so we usually associate the product to the original inventor and/or company even after the patent has long expired. Zerk invented and originally sold grease nipples so we still call them Zerks. Many of us also still call the photocopier a Xerox regardless of who manufactured the device and most carpenters still refer to all handheld circular saws as a Skilsaw for the same reason.
List all of the grease fitting put this in your computer, print out the list, put in the book. Or print out put in plastic to keep it clean and use it when you grease the deuce. Or print out many copies and check off each fitting as you do them to be sure you get all of them each time you do it. I don't know how hard it is to be get new parts to replace any that go bad but I don't think they are easy to get many of them. I think in one of your videos you showed the book on the deuce, it should have Alll the fitness list in it and maybe photos showing where they are.
You've had some good M35A2 vids, but you really missed the mark on this one (and tons of lube points too). Mine is bobbed, no PTO, no winch, and it still has 45 zerks listed here; Truck back-end 2 on pintle 6 on leaf springs 1 on rear driveshaft at diff. - Truck middle 4 on park brake 2 on rear driveshaft at transfer case 3 on jackshaft 2 on rear of front driveshaft 1 on speedo drive adapter 3 on clutch/brake pivot shaft 2 at clutch/bellhousing shaft 1 at clutch hub splines/throwout bearing carrier (Inside inspection cover) - Truck front (My truck does not have a zerk on the tach drive cable adapter, yours may) 6 on leaf springs 4 on king pins 2 on tie rod 1 on front of front drive shaft 2 on pitman arm 3 on steering wheel shaft (hydraulic power, box outside of frame rail) Your truck probably has 50 zerks or more.
I have no idea but I just do it every year with my yearly oil change. It's also a good idea to lube everything after going through deep water to push out any contamination.
I need to change mine and make a video on it. SAE 30, 40, or 50 straight weight non detergent motor oil or GL1. Many will say 40 or 50 is the best but they're harder to find.
Bc did you know that Lincoln makes a air powered grease gun number 1162 and you can also get a locking nozzle known as the locknlube I think it will lube her up a lot easier
My grease gun which is almost 40 y.o. has a solid metal snout at an intelligent angle which will reach most grease nipples. I have found that the rubber hose variants will sometimes have their tips pop off the nipple when pressure is applied while one can securely hold mine in place throughout the operation.
Grease us cheap. Parts cost money. Be guided accordingly. To the posters wanting a check list get a copy of the relevant lubrication order 9-2320-209-LO and it will answer most of your questions.
Been wanting to get a duce for my day to day driver once i get the money up to buy one your videos are a big help for me to know whats what with the duce to know all i can so i dont get a pos
G'day BC,..... What you call a 'Zerk' fitting. we call a 'Grease Nipple'! Going around and doing hitting them with the grease gun was one of the first things I did with my Deuce when I finally got it home. It drove a lot better once I had done that, it was very noticeable. Aussie.
I like all your videos on the deuce I'm on my way of getting one. I haven't seen a video on the tires. What's your thoughts on what you have compared to these super singles or other tires that are out there and what the benefits are to each.
I need to do a video on tires at some point. The stock tires that I run are cheap and work ok until you hit mud or snow and God help you if you decide to take sharp corner in the rain faster than a jogging pace. All of the big super single options are better in every way over the stock tire but can be expensive to find ones that aren't dry rotted or already worn and they change the look of the truck. Even with the trade offs I like the look and price of the stock tire but if I ever decide to go non-stock my go to tire option will probably be the Goodyear g177 or similar tire. The g177s will outlast most other tire options many times over and they were designed for uses such as coalfields and mining so they're rugged as well.
What grease are you using? Been wanting to grease my deuce but can't find the recommended GAA locally. Any grease is better than no grease but just wondering what you use. Thanks.
Captain Quint I can’t speak for him or what to use in a deuce but in the industry I work in, pulp and paper, the universal grease we use for near everything, including heavy equipment like payloaders and such, is mobile 460. It’s a quality white lithium grease. Might be something to look into for your application and availability
Thank-you soooo much for posting this!! Last month I picked up a big grease gun with hose and adapters along with Lucas extra heavy duty grease (green colored) at Napa. I've yet to get to lubricating everything, but this video is way faster than reading everything in the maintenance TM. One thing you forgot: the Pintle hitch has 2 zerks on it. Also can you do a video on how to check/change the winch fluid? Thanks again!
Charles Mitchell depends where you live for the duece... It's rated @23000 or 24000. Most states will allow it to 26000 before you need a CDL. The 5 ton is rated @ 40000, it would need a CDL. Check your local DMV. :)
Excellent videos! I'm purchasing my M35A2 shortly and I cannot wait! Thank you for the videos. I have learned a lot of items I would not have known if I did find your channel. Is there anyway you can do a video on how to change the tires on and off the wheels?
I know you said you are too cheap for a power grease gun but man it's worth it. I was against the idea thinking it was lazy but with equipment it's smarter. Less time on your back and none of us are getting younger. Great video as always sir!👍🏼
No, I don't have a m35a2 but dear God, I wish I did! It looks like it would be fun working on one. However, I'm afraid I'd have to have the equivalent of a military machine shop to keep her running and buy several just to cannibalize for parts.
Them are things I do not miss doing. The M920 and M930 series 5 tons are just as bad. As well as the 8 wheel drive HEMET. I think the easiest vehicle in the military at the time I worked at the rebuild center to do maintenance on were the Hummers.
If you really wanted to do a complete list so that other deuce owners (like me) could use it as a how-to/checklist if you simply name where the fitting is and show its location we don't actually have to watch you grease each fitting. However, this is a fine video, I appreciate it as I need to do my first chassis lube...even if you didn't cover every zerk, I'mm sure you got most of them and my truck will be better for whatever maintenance I do. Thumbs up from me.
None on the steering systems? I'd think at least 4 ought to be there... One on the shaft near the fire wall, one more on the Pittman arm at the gearbox, and each knuckle of the drag link. Might be 2 on the Pittman... Great video though.
Thank you. The outro music didn't work as well with UA-cam's new mobile friendly end screens. I liked that outro music as well so I may look at putting together a new outro that works with the new end screens. The intro music has a funny story. Apparently, there's some dude that actually owns the rights to the generic, "bow chicka bow wow" porn music and my videos kept being flagged for copyright violations. The flags were all overturned but it was just a pain to deal with so I dropped it and started jumping straight into the video.
Get you own Lincoln Grease gun here. amzn.to/2y7nyvJ
DEUCE AND GUNS hey do you have to have a cdl to drive one of these?
those $5 hot and ready's hit the spot sometimes
That's one happy Duce and Half because it's got an awesome owner that takes great care of it!
Agree
I believe there is grease zerks on the front axle king pins also
I wish you did some more Deuce videos, it would be nice to see one on the full air system.
You know from the air pump to the under dash manifold to the wipers & brakes and including the air governor.
I don’t know all of it but did see a cloudless videos that touched on it but there needs to be a more full complete break down on its rout & functions.

You put some history in there & diagrams and pictures & jokes. Your great
Love your videos
That's in the plans for future videos.
Did this for 8 years in the guard. I was a 63W20 mechanic.
Alec Snyder thank you for your service!!

my man with the seiko snk809, great watch for the money.
It really is a great value.

I am up to greasing the deuce and a half every day

And don't forget the oil can points.
In England we call them grease nipples!
Could you do a follow up video on your fuel filtration system for the motor oil?
Are the king pins not greasable? I did now see you do those or the tie rod ends, only the drag link.
I love your deuce. Always wanted one. Don't know why or what the hell I would use it for. Just always thought they were cool!
you don't need a reason man. best vehicle you'll ever own.
Join the gang, you'll love it besides the steering and top speed. That 12foot bed is so useful
Its not that watching somebody grease a bunch of fittings is boring, that fact that it is a deuce and a half makes it worth watching.
How often should you grease them
Good effort on the pizza.👍
lol zerk fitting. Over here in U.K. There known as a grease nipple 😁😁😁👍🏼
Yep, named after the inventor Oscar Zerk but grease nipple works just as well.
DEUCE AND GUNS Well I've learnt something now 😁👍🏼
Great vids
We call em nipples too. Lol

I always forget to hit my throwout bearing & front axle zerks. loving the m35a2 vids!!
Throwout bearing? Isn't that like, between the engine and the transmission?
There is 1 on each bogie too, where they are attached to the frame, one approaches them from below, between the back tires. And back. And 1 rear at the coupling device for wagons
1 or 2 where the pedals are attached under the cab floor. Maybe I also forgot some one :)

Do you know of any videos on the M52 or M54 family of vehicles?
List all of the grease fitting put this in your computer, print out the list, put in the book. Or print out put in plastic to keep it clean and use it when you grease the deuce. Or print out many copies and check off each fitting as you do them to be sure you get all of them each time you do it. Does this thing have grease fitting on the brake system? Slack adjusters?
You've had some good M35A2 vids, but you really missed the mark on this one (and tons of lube points too). Mine is bobbed, no PTO, no winch, and it still has 45 zerks listed here;
Truck back-end
2 on pintle
6 on leaf springs
1 on rear driveshaft at diff.
- Truck middle
4 on park brake
2 on rear driveshaft at transfer case
3 on jackshaft
2 on rear of front driveshaft
1 on speedo drive adapter
3 on clutch/brake pivot shaft
2 at clutch/bellhousing shaft
1 at clutch hub splines/throwout bearing carrier (Inside inspection cover)
- Truck front
(My truck does not have a zerk on the tach drive cable adapter, yours may)
6 on leaf springs
4 on king pins
2 on tie rod
1 on front of front drive shaft
2 on pitman arm
3 on steering wheel shaft (hydraulic power, box outside of frame rail)
Your truck probably has 50 zerks or more.
In that case.... I think he's gonna need as more ammo for that grease gun..
He stated at the beginning of the video that he was not going to show every grease point. As in his words he said would be boring for the watcher.
how often are you supposed to apply grease?
I have no idea but I just do it every year with my yearly oil change. It's also a good idea to lube everything after going through deep water to push out any contamination.
I really want a 5 ton. While in the service I have driven both.
Been searching your vids, only thing i dont see is transfer case 1, what oil you run or recommend
I need to change mine and make a video on it. SAE 30, 40, or 50 straight weight non detergent motor oil or GL1. Many will say 40 or 50 is the best but they're harder to find.
Hi, how about the electrical "slave" outlet?
Much easier to watch that work, with a cup of coffee, than to da it lol, great job!
Bc did you know that Lincoln makes a air powered grease gun number 1162 and you can also get a locking nozzle known as the locknlube I think it will lube her up a lot easier
I knew they existed but didn't know Lincoln made them. I may look into upgrading at some point so I'll have no excuse to put off the maintenance.
DEUCE AND GUNS any time bc
What about the steering shaft?
My grease gun which is almost 40 y.o. has a solid metal snout at an intelligent angle which will reach most grease nipples. I have found that the rubber hose variants will sometimes have their tips pop off the nipple when pressure is applied while one can securely hold mine in place throughout the operation.
What about the foot pedals? And there is a hidden grease fitting behind a cover on the transmission I think too
There are many that I didn't show due to both length of video and difficulty to film. I may do a more detailed video at some point.
My Sterling truck had over 40 or more grease fittings on it.
did you eat the pizza to grease yourself up like you greased up to deuce
Grease us cheap. Parts cost money. Be guided accordingly. To the posters wanting a check list get a copy of the relevant lubrication order 9-2320-209-LO and it will answer most of your questions.
where do you get parts for your Deuce if a part brake's?
Napa auto parts, in some cases
2 more on the top of the bellhousing
Been wanting to get a duce for my day to day driver once i get the money up to buy one your videos are a big help for me to know whats what with the duce to know all i can so i dont get a pos

check out lock n lube for your grease gun. one of the best things for lubing!
expect a 250 dollar oil change at jiffy lube becausde it needs 6 gallons of oil
I just got rotella t6 5w40, 6 gallons for $127. Luckily my duece came with extra filters. But now i have to go get all this stuff at napa...

Theres another zerk fitting under the steel plate by the transmission for one of the bearings

it is the law of the grease gun that you have to reload with two fittings remaining!

Are there any zerks on the steering linkage between the wheels?
Yep, tie rod end links have the standard fittings as well.
DEUCE AND GUNS ahh I just didn't notice you getting both ends (at each tire)
I had some recording issues and lost that footage. My good camera wasn't too happy about being drug around under the Deuce.
DEUCE AND GUNS haha it happens. I love the videos on the deuce either way. There's just somethin about old iron like this that makes me smile
Where did you buy your deuce
yes yes and yes
Them are things I do not miss doing. The M920 and M930 series 5 tons are just as bad. As well as the 8 wheel drive HEMET. I think the easiest vehicle in the military at the time I worked at the rebuild center to do maintenance on were the Hummers.
David Genthner Jr thank you for your service!!

Missed one or two sir
I didn't record every zerk and yes I probably missed one or two as well.
Eat a whole pizza, run 50 yards with your AR, do 10 pushups and then shoot. lol
The pistol grip guns make it alot easier.
Grease is cheap insurance. I like using a pneumatic grease gun.
glad you have one
My m561 Gama Goat has around 58 fittings, and they need to be greased every 1000 miles.
Wouldn’t bother me I do all my vehicles the same day anyway so I already end up doing 25+
I think you forgot a few (but to your opening comment, there are way too many). Check out LO9-2320-209-12-1 for them all.
None on the steering systems? I'd think at least 4 ought to be there... One on the shaft near the fire wall, one more on the Pittman arm at the gearbox, and each knuckle of the drag link. Might be 2 on the Pittman...
Great video though.
Wait you don't have one of those battery operated grease guns for that LOL.
I thought it was crazy to pay $30 for a decent Lincoln grease gun so I'm way too cheap to buy one of those battery powered versions.
I'm not %100 but am pretty sure there are more then 25 grease nipples on a deuce I was thinking 114 all together but that may have been nco math :)
Lubrication Order LO 9-2320-209-12
What happened to your intro and outro music? I kinda liked it! But any way I love your deuce videos
Well we are watching 'Deuce Porn"! ;)Aussie.
Are you serious? Someone owns 'bow chicka bow wow?"
That's a grease nipple
Named after the inventor Oscar Zerk but grease nipple works just as well.
What state do you live in
Tennessee
