BC, thanks for all the videos! I just finished watching all the M35 videos, very informative for someone such as my self that has never been around them. I am a custom gun builder in TN, I noticed you mentioned you were in TN also. I just sold my .50 BMG I custom built a few years ago with the intention of buying my first M35A2 myself. Trading one toy for another. Thanks again!
If you use some silicone grease it will help seal things and make it easier to plug and unplug. Also a little in the butt splice will help keep water out. Any silicone or Teflon grease will help keep water out of the connections. It is always good to use in almost everything. A small amount of it on the screws when you put them back with help when you need to take them out next. It keeps water away from the screws and keeps them from rusting. I have used silicone grease on a lot of things to help keep water out. Another thing is WD-40. Most think it is to lube! WD stands for Water Displacement!! It was made for NASA because they had trouble with water getting into the everything in Florida.
Thanks for the tip, had one go out on one of our local fire trucks and I was wondering if a standard connection 24V sealed beam existed. We're going to replace both as they were super old and looked like more of an orange color when lit up lol.
429redneck That's a good idea. I've always used that on everything at the house but the second I set foot on the farm my mind goes to the Dukes of Hazard school of car maintenance where everything is fixed with duck tape, WD40, and chicken wire. I really need to get out of that mindset.
What a great cheap fix! I'm glad to see harbor freight made it into the video. Lol. I'm a big harbor freight fan myself. If the heat gun works good why not use it right? Hopefully you got that with a 25% off to make it even cheaper and on sale. Lol. Oh yeah, don't forget the free item too. Haha. I'm not trying to sound greedy here but they offer coupons so why not? Anyways, I really like how you made the connector and bought a bulb that's readily available. You heat shrinked it too. Very nice neat, clean job!! I need to do the same to my boat trailer lighting. I'm having trouble with a good ground.
Hope you saved the burned out bulb-OEM harness for some future auction of the rig ... not for several decades, I hope. As always, you do a superb job of keeping a living history of my favorite ride. Don "Oboeman" Dodson
I did many years ago and they were $400+ for the pair but I see the price has dropped substantially since then. I'll have to take a look the next time I've got a light out which shouldn't' be too long because these lights don't seem to last that long.
E-bay, Craig’s list is really good. Boyce Equipment out of Ogden Utah., Memphis Equipment, C&C equipment, eastern equipment near philly, and several other companies, private sellers , there are more web sites also that have them listed. Private seller is the cheapest but you got to know what your buying. I think the fuel injection pump is one of the most important things to check out.
I wonder what the panel in the grill next to the passenger side headlight covers? There are three covers on it. I'd guess it is more towing / military accessory stuff, like the 24 volt charging connector.
That's actually the bridge weight classification plate. When the military was active in an area they would rate each bridge with it's max safe load and mark the bridge with a number. The three small plates on the main circular plate would normally have a number on each. The passenger side plate would show the weight class for the truck empty, the driver side would show the weight class when the truck was loaded to full capacity, and the top plate would show the max weight of a trailer. As long as the number on the bridge was equal to or higher than the plate on the deuce it was safe to cross. Good question.
I wouldn't say impossible but depending on one's commute uncomfortable and expensive. I drive mine to work a few times a year and that's enough with my 30 mile commute.
It'll haul plenty of lawn mowers but with a bed height of just over 4ft you'll need some long custom ramps for anything you can't easily raise to chest height.
I use mine as a simi daily driver, meaning a couple or few times a week, lows, Home Depot, deep snowy winter days, or excursions, visiting relatives getting groceries but mine is bobbed down.
That's the blackout light. It'll give you just enough light to see where your wheels are in a pitch black covert situation. The light switch can be set to turn on this tiny light and turn off headlights, turn signals, tail lights, brake lights, and instrument lights. It has a shield to direct all light straight down so the enemy has a harder time locating the truck from a distance. Good question.
***** I have heard that it is supposed to be visible only in night vision goggles, thus keeping your level of stealth considerably higher than with a regular bulb.
John Ronkainen you cant see it at all if you more than 30ft from the vehical but you can see it without NVGs (Night Vision Goggles) on while driving but its super dim. When you do night driving in the military you will almost always have night vision. Except that one time where they didnt have any extra NVGs for me or my navigator so i was driving with just the blackout light on and no moon. I couldnt see anything except a very faint glow around my front left side of the Humvee my navigator was ground guiding me and i couldnt even see him. It was really sketchy! I acquired NVGs the very next day because i was not going to do that again lol. No one got hurt though thats all that matters :)
Hey there I'm having issues with my parking brake... That's the only video you don't have... Can you help with the install, adjustments and any other advice and or tricks please??
nice work I'm not a big fan of the butt connector and while you certainly made a clean job of it semi exposed to the elements the way the backside of the headlights are I would suspect corrosion if the light fails I'm also a fan of dieletric grease on the 3 prong connector another great video thanks for taking the time to show us what you did
BEAUTIFULLY clean truck! Can you do a vid on what went on purchasing, costs, registration, what to look for for the first time buyer?Living with the duece ownership type costs, fuel mileage, that sort of thing? Thanks...again,thats a fine example, was it near that nice when purchased?
Thanks for the info My head light went out last night Took a snap shot of the info you gave walked into Napa showed them the pic 5 mins later I was walking out with my parts One thing how do you change the lights from hi to low ?
Awesome! I'm glad the info helped. You should have a silver button on the floor left of the clutch pedal near the firewall to change from hi to low beams. This was the normal hi-low beam switch in most cars/trucks up to the mid 80s.
Not yet. I'll get to it eventually but I'm only doing things as they need to be done. Thanks for watching and stay tuned because I'll eventually get around to it.
There is at least one company that offers a direct LED replacement but the last time I checked the they'd cost two lifetimes worth of headlights so I passed.
Was doing some editing on it today. Hope to have it up in the next couple of weeks. Also, planning to go the farm this weekend and if the weather holds (it may rain) I plan on changing the trans fluid. It really needs it because it's still got what GIJoe last put in it which was who knows when.
that one made me laugh, GIJoe hehe. I am very very obsessed with these trucks. I have my heart set on a bobbed one, it would be more practical for my use. Something about me just loves an old clanky slow ride and it never gets old. New vehicles to me, eah. there no character in them. all the same.... mundane, electronics no real manuals to fix them, not to mention complex as shit with the computers and all. I feel so connected to the road and its surroundings in old military transport. I would probably drive it almost every chance I got. Definitely something im going to get once I get a job. I only get to ride in them every so often since the people i know that own one don't come round it it very often.
***** I would really like to see some more good videos about driving a deuce, thats not just some shaking camera rolling down the road. just a thought.
I used to twist everything till I ran across a metallurgical report showing that twisting added stress to the copper and added little to no benefit to the longevity of the connection when done properly. That was ten years ago and nothing I've done has had an issue. Of course nothing I've done before that has had an issue either so I'd say the for/against twist is largely an academic argument at best.
Jus spent over $200 on Putting in LEDs for the headlights on my deuce, it's amazing how much better it looks . My question is what does my headlight switch need to be turned on to have headlights going and the running lights on? I know hiw to turn the running lights on only and turn Jus headlights on only but can't figure out how to have both on . what do both switches need to be on? please
Those LED headlights are awesome and they've come down in recent years. When I first looked at them they were closer to $500. Once I'm through my stash of new old stock headlights I'll think about the upgrade. As for your question. Without some creative rewiring it's either headlights and turn signals or running lights and turn signals.
I like your truck, reminds me of old times used to ride in the back of them

I bought that same heat gun not too much longer after this video went up and its still working to this day. Paid for itself dozens of times over
I just did this to my m 109 a3 and works flawless!!! Thanks so much I was dreading replacing the light that burned out cause of the cost!
Thanks for the tip, had one go out on one of our local fire trucks and I was wondering if a standard connection 24V sealed beam existed. We're going to replace both as they were super old and looked like more of an orange color when lit up lol.
The nice thing is after you do that to the wires you don't need to modify them anymore. Just unplug the burnt headlight and plug in a new one.
Exactly!
great video you should put some dielectric grease on those plugs next time though

love the info, the time lapse with music was freakin great! LOL
Why can't modern vehicles be this easy to change a headlight on? Instead you gotta take apart 1/2 the front end of the car to get to the light.
it made so you have to pay some one to do it
john smith exactly
And miss out on the experience of going out to your car in the morning, in the dark, late for work, to find that your headlights have been stolen?

Another great video.

whats that devise below the headlight you changed

FYI everyone...according to the Wagner catalog, the original 4863 light is 60/80watt and the 4800 is 40/50watt (not as bright)

What do you have coming out next?
On the Deuce it's a high level on the winch but my next vid will be something on shotguns. Next Deuce vid probably out next week.
Cool...keep them coming. Awesome stuff for people like me that have little experience with the deuce.
Why not convert to the new LED headlights and not worry about changing them for another 10 years?
all personal preference i guess, i would keep it the same and just add a light bar or something though.
I changed over to led on headlights. cost lightly over 200 . well worth it
I am no mechanic, nor an expert on the operation of the M35a2, but I think you could have used some electrical grease on either end of those wires.
I wonder is a LED can be put in
There is at least one company that offers a direct LED replacement but the last time I checked the they'd cost two lifetimes worth of headlights so I passed.
Just like a 77 Chrysler Cordoba 😂✌
Whats the next video about?
A high level overview of the winch.

LOL the headlight looks like one of those tripods from the war of the worlds movie.
The only problem is now your headlight is no longer water proof because the new plug in you added is not water resistant.
if you used te connectivity crimp terminals it cost $0.75 only and faster
Anybody else cringe when he put the wires into the butt connectors without twisting the strands tight?
I used to twist everything till I ran across a metallurgical report showing that twisting added stress to the copper and added little to no benefit to the longevity of the connection when done properly. Not sure exactly what your problem is, but you may need to install a resistor in the headlight wiring for your regular bulbs to work at the same time.
wow and to think i passed up an offer to get 4 free ones in an free ammo can
