I know. I have been an armchair art historian for 40 years. No one engages the viewer and keeps it interesting the way Waldemar does. He tells the story in a way even those encountering art for the first time can appreciate. But he also provides enough information that even those of us who have read many books on art can still learn from them.

A treat indeed, no one in my humble jumble of experience brings art & history closer to us than Waldemar does. A universal translator of time and space painting and forming expressions & observations with words so seamlessly woven into wonderous content. Connecting us with the past through the present & leaving us with anticipation even a yearning for more of this medium in the future. The whole Waldemar series is epic, a pearl, a precious treasure, a timely portfolio of shared knowledge that lets us drift into cultural curiosity for a couple of full hours. Instead of the usual 15 minute YT video packed with repetitious filler.

Waldemar is awesome!! It's important to note that even in this modern age the experts are still revising the history of people like Caravaggio as our intrepid narrator stated. I would like to crack the door of our imagination open a little to suggest that Bernini and company did not actually build all these magnificent buildings but instead built upon the ruins of the past civilization that vanished. There is much tangential evidence in terms of maps and artifacts that suggest our history was indeed changed and that the previous civilization was far more technologically advanced than we give them credit for. I would also like to suggest, for purposes of intellectual discussion rather than be offensive that while our religions have defined our culture we don't have anything but our individual faith and the artifacts to validate them. It is possible that the religious symbols and characters are no more real than the characters in Star Wars but represent many things of cold hard science, for example the shape of the cross and the giant pine cone - all have alternate meanings in physics and biology. It would be quite difficult to gather the money and talent needed to build just the Vatican these days and yet somehow they did it all across the world even in places with tiny populations - the builders of old could erect a cathedral in a mere 3 years and we can't even renovate one in that time these days it seems. We had electric powered dirigibles before the Wright brothers and electric powered cars before the 1900s even started (just look it up if you don't believe me). Whatever the truth actually is doesn't jive with the timeline of history as presented. This is why I love it when an expert like our main man Waldemar can say "we aren't exactly sure but.."

Thought you might delve more into the Bernini/Borromini rivalry as they are the undisputed masters of the Baroque. Bernini's, Fountain of the Four Rivers was Borromini's idea as it sits in front of the magnificent church he designed in Piazza Navona, Church of Sant'Agnese. The St. Peter's Baldacchino was also mostly Borromini's idea while working with Maderno before Bernini usurped his ideas and lastly look at the two staircases in the Palazzo Barberini, one by Borromini and the other by Bernini. Love your videos, thanks.

Hello from Uruguay, I have been watching videos from this channel since last year and they are amazing. I love Waldemar's way of explaining art. Anyone else from Uruguay who has been watching them?

I love that the Catholic response to Protestant charges of worldliness, vanity, luxury and vice is to triple down on all of that in their art!

I love the way Waldemar masterfully emulates the religious hierarchy, dancing between sarcasm and sincerity.
Sarcasm > The religious controllers have absolutely no idea what happens after death but sincerely> allow the follower to believe that they do know.
    It's a larf innit?

My grandfather was a historian so I grew up listening to stories about Admiral Nelson and seeing the paintings of the age of sail. I play Civilization 5 because I love history. I've just been getting into art in history and it is gorgeous seeing the architecture and hearing the dramatic, epic masterpieces that give color to documentaries such as these.
As a child there were a few things my grandparents showed me that were of interest. Now at 35 I really do appreciate seeing those things that I considered boring. It's just exquisite seeing for myself why certain things are so treasured.

On another tip, this guy Waldermar really shows his appreciation of great art, a joy to watch. So turns out most of what I saw as Renaissance was in fact Baroque. Most of my favourite artists also. Well at least I know who my monks are now as well. Charles I was our Claudius it would seem. Jan Vermeer is sending me to Ghent. Rubens, Rembrandt, Velásquez, Goya - All great. Cromwell really was an arsehole wasn't he.
