I’m a Drummer, I’ve played and listened two great drummers my entire life. Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Stewart Copeland Etc. until I heard you!!! Your playing is PERFECTION! Thanks!!!!
@@wukong1066I've listened to the greats you've mentioned here and then some. but this cat Chris "Daddy" Dave is on another level Bro... His drum play is magnificent!
JD Beck sent me here from his interview with Sarah Hagan - this is soooooooo sick !! finally finding artists that are the sauce !! You inspire me ! Thank you for your music and influence you have had on the world! Peace !
My favorite drummer dude!!! Nonstop since the nineties and still giving the business! Creativity is always on another planet..... Would love to hear you do another track wit da Mint Factory one more time!
bro, i love the placement of beats. pocket when you want pocket but distortion of all the transitions at the beginning is clear enough to understand. you see the big picture well.
Chris Dave you simultaneously make me want to practice drums every day for the rest of my life, but also make me never want to play again because I'll never make sounds as good as that. You god damn talented man
Who cares? I bet you've played drum parts that Chris would never even think of to play. Everybody has a unique touch and feel. Personally I love listening to inexperienced people play my drums, to me its art if they can manage to express themselves with the instrument. However sloppy or simple it may be. Comparing myself to drummers never did any good for my playing. Its liberating to not strive to be the best but rather strive to be yourself.
Just came back from the show in stockholm, Fasching jazz club. Chris is so chill and he gave me his drumsticks he used that show which he later signed GO CHRIS "DADDY" DAVE!
One of my biggest problems with rap is exclusion of real drums. Who the fuck in their right mind doesn't groove to this. There are so many nasty drummers out there who can add another dimension to rap, instead of just sampling beats.
This more than anything else should motivate us to stay unique as drummers... There is only one Chris Daddy Dave! The Legend! BOOM! Much Love and Respect Jstar*Zacheus
Nice. He has his way of doing things and it's so obvious that it's him playing even when you can't see that it's him. You know when people are borrowing from him because they don't have his sense of timing and delivery of ideas. Of course, he has influences, but I enjoy his approach.
@Xolin11 LOL we all have people who inspire us to find our own voices. Not sure why you wish that were not the case, but it's a GOOD thing to have influences. It's only bad when you don't discover your own voice. Clearly, Dave has his own voice, his own approach, and he has become a serious influence to many.
There is some reverb and other stuff on it, but for the most part it is a combination of the shallow depth, medium high tension snares, a cranked top head that is something like a Evans HD dry, and a medium tension reso head. The diecast hoops also dry it out a good bit.
@JOHNSIBAYAN07 I also want to mention that the musical instruments were excellent. The vintage drum collection was provided by Steve Baldalament, owner of Innovation Drum (innovationdrums). Chris' Signature line of Sabian cymbals sounded absolutely incredible and were beautiful to behold. Great video crew and management. And last but not least, Chris was one of the most kind, intelligent, funny and friendly guys you can ever hope to meet. -Cort
@drummeroulis93 They're owned by Steve Badalament, owner of Innovation Drums... my best recollection... main snare: 5x14" '60s Keystone-era Ludwig Supraphonic with die-cast hoops; bass drum: 20" '57 Sparkle Blue Gretsch; rack snare: 12x14" marching snare; floor snare: 6.5x14" Tama? Maple. The other two piccolos I can't recall. The cymbals are Chris' Sabian Signature series raw/unlathed... 17" hats; 21"? crash with a sizzle chain, stacked 21" crash/ozone; 20" crash/ride; spiral cymbal w/ rivets.
@Fjord76 its actually a remix of bob james nautilus by a group called "Nuyorican Soul" that included roy ayers, george benson etc... both versions are dope! chris dave is the TRUTH!!! truly pushin boundaries like no other. bless...
@JOHNSIBAYAN07 99% of what you're hearing is expert tuning, muffling and playing. As for the mics; nothing fancy -Samson 7kit (bass, 4-snares, 2 overhead), I augmented the kit with an APEX 460 wide diaphragm condenser in the shoulder position and a Sennheiser e609 Silver dynamic on the hats. I snaked to a Presonus Firestudio Tube, then Firewire 400 to Chris' Mac running Logic Pro. I ran the shoulder and bass drum mics though the tube preamp channels on the Presonus. Thank you for the kind words.
He is using a mixture of different styles but he has practiced so much that it's just muscle memory now and he practiced the right way, with body relaxed so he doesn't tense up when he plays fast I'll give you some links to helpful videos
His left hand was just playing double the speed of his right hand, making them 32nd notes. After he does those 32nd doubles his left hand just ghosts along with the right hand 16ths
They would be 32nd notes if they were played on top of the beat. But they're closer from being swung. Any of this doesn't matter. The end result: he had a musical idea and successfully executed.
thats what is looks and sounds like. The paradiddle is probly my favorite rudiment. Well it WAS until I saw this video. Now I feel like I need to practice more.
Well, it's actually a combination of the reverb of the room that you can hear in the start of the video (around 0:07-0:09), of course a superb job of tuning his snares like a sir, the actual snare on the original track, the combing with hi-hat and tambourine and overall control of his strength... must be over 9k....
You cannot deny the coolness of a drummer who uses 4-5 snares "because I like snares and how they sound". Period.
I’m a Drummer, I’ve played and listened two great drummers my entire life. Gene Krupa, Buddy Rich, Stewart Copeland Etc. until I heard you!!! Your playing is PERFECTION! Thanks!!!!
Art Blakey, Max Roach, Danny Richmond...
@@wukong1066I've listened to the greats you've mentioned here and then some. but this cat Chris "Daddy" Dave is on another level Bro... His drum play is magnificent!
the first song is mysterons by portishead
Do u have a playlist i could indulge in?
JD Beck sent me here from his interview with Sarah Hagan - this is soooooooo sick !! finally finding artists that are the sauce !! You inspire me ! Thank you for your music and influence you have had on the world!
Peace !
My favorite drummer dude!!! Nonstop since the nineties and still giving the business! Creativity is always on another planet..... Would love to hear you do another track wit da Mint Factory one more time!
Gotta love me some Portishead especially the sick beats this guy is smothering all over it without ruining the vibe. Can you say "ill"?
bro, i love the placement of beats. pocket when you want pocket but distortion of all the transitions at the beginning is clear enough to understand. you see the big picture well.
The first break he plays is incredible.
He instantly became one of my favourites. Get his free album!
Chris Dave you simultaneously make me want to practice drums every day for the rest of my life, but also make me never want to play again because I'll never make sounds as good as that. You god damn talented man
Truth 😩
he's been playing since he was like 4 and he's now 45 so 41 years of playing so don't feel bad haha
Who cares? I bet you've played drum parts that Chris would never even think of to play. Everybody has a unique touch and feel.
Personally I love listening to inexperienced people play my drums, to me its art if they can manage to express themselves with the instrument. However sloppy or simple it may be.

Brother I hope you’re still playing. Chris Dave would tell you to make the best sounds that *you* can…to find your own! You’ll be alright 🙂
one of my top five favorite drummers.
Why the fuck this video and the audio of the pt. 2 is unavailable? Damn those corporate bastards and all theur copyright shit.
while there is kanye west lol
wYc7T jmf go to drummerworld.com it's under Chris Dave there
Just came back from the show in stockholm, Fasching jazz club. Chris is so chill and he gave me his drumsticks he used that show which he later signed
GO CHRIS "DADDY" DAVE!
mindblowingly technically brilliant - and also soulful.
Awesome. I love his cymbal selection. I need a pair of those hats.
When Chris Dave is playing coherently, it's some of the best ever. Then again, I wish I could even halfway goof around on my drums like he does.
@holygroove2
Portishead - Mysterons
The second song is Bob James - Nautilus
Amaaaazing, and what independence.
Awesome Chris Dave is the skilled excellent drummer but versatile who can play jazzy, bluesy, heavy metal rock, new wave techno etc. 👍
Sooooo digging the syncopated ending at the end of this video. Believe it or not it stays in the timing of the song. HOT! lol
One of my biggest problems with rap is exclusion of real drums. Who the fuck in their right mind doesn't groove to this. There are so many nasty drummers out there who can add another dimension to rap, instead of just sampling beats.
808s hit harder than this sometimes 🤷🏽♂️
Why haven’t we gotten any new videos like this????
never gets old.
THIS IS INSANE !!!!!! DO YALL HERE THE GROOVE CHRIS IS PLAYING !!!!!! MY GOSH......
Chris you're INSANE, so much musicality... Thank you for everything dude !
I wish there was a version out of this without the drums that you could practice to. So in love with the groove in this.
This more than anything else should motivate us to stay unique as drummers... There is only one Chris Daddy Dave! The Legend! BOOM!
Much Love and Respect

I think I have watched this more times than any other video on youtube. Seriously.
Nice. He has his way of doing things and it's so obvious that it's him playing even when you can't see that it's him. You know when people are borrowing from him because they don't have his sense of timing and delivery of ideas. Of course, he has influences, but I enjoy his approach.
Finally getting the recognition he deserve...
He'll be in the bay area August 2nd at SF Jazz. Looking forward to seeing him.
This man is masterful!!!!!
Where have you been all my life Chris Dave 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
One of the best in my opinion
0:48 to 1:00 is just jaw-droppingly amazing...
@Xolin11 LOL we all have people who inspire us to find our own voices. Not sure why you wish that were not the case, but it's a GOOD thing to have influences. The last 5 seconds are the best.
omfg. his style is so crispy.. pocket is nuts
I love Chris Dave. He's a master!!
Finally there's a quality video of him on UA-cam!
How the hell did he get his main snare sound to sound like that :D
His singles are perfect. How. Just How.
There is some reverb and other stuff on it, but for the most part it is a combination of the shallow depth, medium high tension snares, a cranked top head that is something like a Evans HD dry, and a medium tension reso head. The diecast hoops also dry it out a good bit.
thats really incredible...there is no chops, no fast single or double strokes...just groove) and its really magic
Greatest alive. Fantastic music taste too

just... whoooa! Love it. Love him.
Your a BEAST DAVE!!!
He is using a mixture of different styles but he has practiced so much that it's just muscle memory now and he practiced the right way, with body relaxed so he doesn't tense up when he plays fast I'll give you some links to helpful videos
I really enjoyed watching that.
Nautilus!!! Thank you so much for reminding me of that song and laying sick beats
Bob James' "Nautilus," known to some others as Ghostface's "Daytona 500."
1:51 gets me EVERY TIME!
+Xavier Leeds sextuplets in his left hand, and 16th notes in his right hand, and at that tempo??!?!! the dude is a freak
he wasnt playing sextuplets sorry
No need to apologize for having an opinion brah. He definitely wasn't thinking sextuplets, but he was playing sextuplets.
His left hand was just playing double the speed of his right hand, making them 32nd notes. After he does those 32nd doubles his left hand just ghosts along with the right hand 16ths

I wish those things could be writ!
paradiddlediddles, maybe with some ridiculousness with the kick drum and fills. This stuff isn't even human.
In other words: Magic.
PardusIgnis ff

Yep!
WE NEED MORE VIDEOS!
best drummer in the world ever
handsome grooves - yes indeed!
thats what is looks and sounds like. The paradiddle is probly my favorite rudiment. Well it WAS until I saw this video. Now I feel like I need to practice more.
Crazy Dave!!!
It's called Montrous Bubble Mix 1 by The Amorphous Androgynous. But it's not available on iTunes. Which really pissed me off lol
1:42 onwards is such a groove
this makes me want to put down my guitar and become a drummer
He makes me want to put down my drums and become a guitarist though lol
Haha this is amazing
I did....
I'm picking it back up though:)
Do it
Well, it's actually a combination of the reverb of the room that you can hear in the start of the video (around 0:07-0:09), of course a superb job of tuning his snares like a sir, the actual snare on the original track, the combing with hi-hat and tambourine and overall control of his strength... must be over 9k....
OMG! Killin it!
that was used for jeru's track mindspray by dj preimier and wu's daytona 500 and many more classics!!!!
It's in the original song that is in the backing track. It's by Portishead, I can't remember what it's called.
that snare is so raw holy fuck
Holy Shit! I need to get back on those drums and practice some more
Doooood, your skills are smooth like butter. Do you have any lessons online?
One Word: BEAST!
