Rocky would run about 9 or 10 miles a day when not in training for a particular fight. When he was "in training" for a fight, yes, he would run 15 miles a day. His training was relentless, and matched by no boxer then or now.
Marciano had short stocky arms which allowed him to generate so much power and damage close up, ...his style was simple ..but very effective....hit them hard,...and hit them often
@IRoosterManI As for your "Old Men" comment, its false. When Rocky fought Wallcott its a known fact that its regarded as Jersey Joe's best performance of his career. When Rocky Fought Ezzard Charles there was only 1 year seperating the two. After Rocky fought Archie Moore (The Old man as you say) Archie went on to fight over 40 more bouts, Winning most of them and fighting both Floyd Patterson and Muhammad Ali. Rocky Is up in the top 5 of any Real Boxing fan.
@kingzula Saying Rocky was not in the top ten is a joke. The man was a freak, Physically he had every disadvantage in the ring, yet always overcame the odds. he wasnt tall, he wasnt big, he had the shortest reach of any heavyweight champ yet is STILL the only undefeated HW champion in history. Muhammad Ali has said himself Rocky would be his hardest fight, Ali also said he thinks Rocky was better then Joe Frazier. George Foreman has also taken his hat off to Rocky and has him in his top 3.
I have read certain statistics about Marciano`s punching power. Just looking at him punching the speed bag is interesting. His fists look very top heavy, almost like lead clubs. He puts barely any speed into that last right cross that sends the speed bag flying across the room. I imagine getting hit by this guy is kind of like getting mauled by the heavy end of a sledge hammer. It doesn't matter if it comes at you slow or fast. It will hurt.....
Guys, I'm pretty sure that speed bag coming off the mount was just some silly camera magic to make people laugh and to sell tickets. That's the most important and least talked about part of Boxing. No sales = No Sport unfortunately.
@@johnmanni227 Rocky used his whole body when he threw his bombs - generating most of his power from his thick legs and lower back/hips. Same type of power generation that Bruce Lee lectured about - punching power doesn't just come from your arm and shoulder but your whole body including hips and legs. Marciano had the body type that could generate amazing power. Not to sound crude or insulting but the guy was a professional ditch digger for a period...that shoving movement. Besides being grueling work, builds very good strength and power in the legs, hiips and back. Try digging in rock filled New England soil for a couple of hours and see how you feel the next day...
The last 2 - 3 weeks leading up to a fight he would increase his volume in training. So running 6-8 miles would increase to 12-16 miles and punch bag/mitts time would be up by an extra 30mins.
@RalphyMarciano yeah I always thought a prime louis vs a prime marciano would be interesting, and I'd go for Marciano, although I think Liston would be too much( power, jab, great boxing ability, bigger) for Marciano. Marciano vs Iron Mike or even Evander would be a good scrap though.
@kingzula not only would he have beaten floyd, he would have KOed him, Floyd didn't have the chin to survive against Rocky. You think Rocky doesn't deserve to be in the the top ten. so do me a favor and list your top ten to me, im interested in the fighters you would put before him.
I've said it before, the fanboys always claim Rocky wouldn't beat Ali, Frazier, Foreman etc etc etc. Very interesting that they always bring Rocky up in weight. Here is my hypothetical challenge which is as valid as anyone else's, bring them all down to Rocky's weight and have them fight their best ever over three fights against the Rock. The Rock beats them all over three bouts. And yes, I know all about Ali's skills, Foreman's power, Tyson's fury, Holmes' jabs........but at 184 pounds with his best power and punch resistance at his availability over each three fight match-up............and still the undefeated champion of the world....Rocky Marciano!
@kingzula you can ramble on all you want, the fact that you dont class Rocky Marciano as a top 10 heavyweight leads me to not take you seriously. your either Joking or you dont REALLY know about Rocky marciano, You may be a Boxing fan but its impossible for anyone who Knows a decent amount about Rocky to not even put him in the top ten. He is Top 5. Type in youtube "Muhammad Ali Talks About Rocky Marciano" Ali sparred with a retired Rocky, and you can tell he truely thinks Rocky was great.
@jayangli ive never saw him as a ref either so im not sure if thats even true unless he was a ref for boxing youth or amateurs or something in which case there probably wouldnt be any vids of him.
@bustapunk101 Marciano could have beaten any of these fighters during a 3 fight trilogy at least once....AI, FRAZIER, HOLMES, TYSON, LISTON & i am fucking deadly certain on that !! WHO KNOWS HE COULD HAVE WON 2 OUT OF 3 AGAINST ALL OF THEM !! HOOOOO RA !!
Bullshit. The only way Rocky could beat Ali is by a ko. And Ali could not get koed by one punch. He was hit by harder punchers than Rocky. Liston was too strong and too much reach for Rocky. Frazier again bigger faster and stronger. Tyson would knockout marciano in 1 round 10 times out of 10.
@bustapunk101 If you put him amongst the top 10 heavyweights, isnt he an all time great...? ( jeeez) he would have had no trouble v frazier, as frazier only had a left hook, marciano had a left hook too along with uppercuts an awkward stance heart, chin & a right hand from hell, also the punches came from all angles & he trained harder than any other "heavy" fighter in history....ALI also thinks he's better than frazier, check out "ALI TALKS ABOUT MARCIANO" right here on youtube -_-
That's tough, I can't pick on 1 punch ko power but famous and world renowned trainer don turner says marciano was the hardest puncher ever lived. UA-cam don turner talks about rocky Marciano. No matter who hit harder marciano was the hardest punching heavyweight p4p and possibly any weight. He did more physical damage to guys he fought than any other fighter in history and it was common for him.
It's hard for me to see him doing well against some of the all time greats, mainly because he was just smaller then them. Not to say that that he wouldn't have given them a hard time, but I really can't see him winning against Ali, Holmes, Tyson, Frazier, or Liston. I would still put him on my top 10 best heavyweights though.
FM makes skilled boxers like Marquez miss 90% of there punches. I doubt your average street brawler would even land one punch on Floyd and I actually think Floyd would make a fool of him(in the boxing ring that is). Now you put Floyd against a skillful hwt boxer and then you've got a point. If your talking street fight though then Big Show could pick him up and slam him. Then again Floyd could could shoot the right that busted Big Shows noes at his balls pop in the face when he drops then run.
@IRoosterManI walcott best performance was against joe louis 7yrs earlier. a fight that walcott won easy but was robbed by the judges. moore was an old light-heavyweight who never beat good heavyweights. he was a great light-heavyweight,but not a great heavyweight
@IRoosterManI floyed had a good chin. not a great chin. but roc had trouble with fast fighters and floyed was young and woudnt have tired like those old men roc beat. if he would have beaten floyed then why not fight him and silence the critics? i feel he retired because he saw the future with guys like patterson and liston and a few more it would have been too much a challenge to preserve his unbeaten record. if he felt he would ko patterson he would of fought him.
@IRoosterManI then show me the light since i have no idea what i'm talking about. educate me tell me where i'm wrong. show me you know what your talking about.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@IRoosterManI well i will say this, both louis and walcott i feel would have beaten marciano if they fought him in their prime. maybe even archie moore. ali would have beaten him. holmes would have beaten him. lewis, tyson holyfield, frazier, dempsey(though he was kind of overrated too), liston , foreman, even the klitscho brothers all would have beaten him. patterson also. jack johnson would have beaten him. ken norton too. and a few more.
@IRoosterManI he retired way to early he was bigger than Charles, he was bigger than old way past his prime moore. walcott was listed at 39yrs but was probably 42yrs when they fought, and it took him 13 rds to finally ko him when walcott was dead tired and old. yea he was undefeated, but retired because he saw the future. pretty good fore the time he fought but at a time when the heavyweights were weak. a prime ali beats him easy. so does a prime walcott and louis. not a top 10 heavyweight
No Archie Moore was 39 when he fought rocky and also current light heavyweight champion, Moore was also fighting at a more natural weight and was heavier than rocky. Rocky never fought anyone 40 or older, the oldest was 39 and he only fought 2 people that were 39. Charles was essentially the same age as rocky with little more that 1 year separating them. Joe Louise was 37 but was on an 8 fight win streak. True Joe was past his prime but rocky wasn't even in his prime yet so neither were prime and Joe was more experienced because rocky didn't even start boxing until 25 years old. He fought with a disadvantage and won by knockout because of his work ethic, power and determination. The age difference with rocky and men he fought was less than other champions, ali was 12 years younger than liston, Tyson was 12 years younger than Burdick, Tyson was 17 years younger than Holmes. Rocky was 9 years younger than Moore and Walcott and that was his biggest age difference. Walcott according to anylisys and historians best fight and showing in a fight was against Marciano so His age was not relevant and aside from it not being relevant Joe was the champion so it wasn't like he was some old bum they threw in. He was still fighting at his best.
@IRoosterManI i judge him by the fighters he fought and given you my opinion on why i feel he was overrated. his personal life has really nothing to do with his record or how good he is. most fighters come from a poor background and have too overcome great hardships to achieve. many including all of the black fighters of his era had it even worse than marciano. i dont judge him as a person, just a fighter. i feel that theirs at least 10 heavyweights that would have beat him in his prime
While Marciano was great I highly doubt that. He had power and a lot of herart but he would have had a very difficult time facing off against the likes of Joe Frazier, Sonny Liston, George Foreman, and Muhammad Ali. Other than those I don't think he would have had a problem with any other Heavy weight from the 60s and 70s.
Rocky would run about 9 or 10 miles a day when not in training for a particular fight. When he was "in training" for a fight, yes, he would run 15 miles a day. His training was relentless, and matched by no boxer then or now.

no man ( real men back then ) in boxing history trained as hard as this beast.
@IRoosterManI As for your "Old Men" comment, its false.

yes he generate power mainly from his muscle tension or torque, rather than from his speed
Guys, I'm pretty sure that speed bag coming off the mount was just some silly camera magic to make people laugh and to sell tickets.

My favourite 2 fighters in the 50s! Probably of all time but along with Joe Louise and jack Dempsey!
Rocky Rocky Rocky
Thanks for posting!
the speed ball at the end cracked me up haha
Is it true that Rocky used to run 15 miles a day?
The last 2 - 3 weeks leading up to a fight he would increase his volume in training. So running 6-8 miles would increase to 12-16 miles and punch bag/mitts time would be up by an extra 30mins.
charles was great shame what happend to him later in life

Does anyone have video of Rocky hitting that huge 500 pound bag? It use ta be all over UA-cam but I can't find it anymore

@beenz08 id love to see rocky and joe fight or probably even rocky vs dempsey!
@jayangli ive never saw him as a ref either so im not sure if thats even true unless he was a ref for boxing youth or amateurs or something in which case there probably wouldnt be any vids of him.
@beenz08 guess not, but a martial artist outside the ring may stand a chance

frazier lost to foreman because of the three knockdown rule, but foreman never really hurt frazier.
i hear marciano became a referee after he retired. was a referee in the ring? if so, where are the vids
Who punched harder Marciano or Shavers?
Snehal Krishnan shavers
Snehal Krishnan as a Marciano fan, shavers most likely hit harder. P4P rocky had the hardest punch ever tho
@@LordLegender nope p4p Julian Jackson was the hardest puncher
@@rotichawal6697 debatable, actually I agree with you now too, but still debatable.
