I'm starting to think the Mk6 GLI is one of the best-looking sedans, period.
🧢 mk7 best gli.
You guys always do great work!
Lot of GLI content today, shopDAP just showcased an All wheel drive GLI a few hours ago and now this comparison video. Good job!
Yeah different engine all together in that GLI.
Love the GLI content!!!
Been thinking about a K04 for my Mk6. Think this has made my mind up
Have u done? I got a mk6 gli was think about doing that…..
Did the exact same thing in my haste to install my charge pipe it felt super slow after it feels much better with that factory o ring
those are great numbers for simple setup!
Great video thank you.Pump gaz reality i like it👍🏻
Nice.. I bet they are happy!
Yes!!!! Perfect timing
Yes if you're using better fuel you will have higher results. That's how it works. lol
It all comes down to brand of hardware, current mods on the car, and labor rates in your area.
I did the same thing installing my charge pipe... Forgot to put the o ring in... But I immediately realized something was wrong and new exactly what it was...😂😂
Happy to see some mk6 K04 content! I have an IE K04 setup on my CC so I have a soft spot for these builds.
What’s your favorite OTS K04 file, Dave?
All depends what you're after.
How is the IE k04, you think it’s worth the 2,300 compared to a hpa or cts k04
@@michaelgonzales4813 genuine BW vs hybrid (not genuine) is the difference.
@@michaelgonzales4813 it’s a genuine Borg Warner, which I believe is the most reliable. Some others with more optimized wheel designs may be more efficient/flow better, but they’re all made in China.
Thanks!
With his old setup if he didn't have that boost issue what would you have expected for HP/TQ compared to the 219/210 base run? Regardless seems like some awesome gains!
Stage 2 MK6 on 91oct we typically see 220-250whp depending on mods software.
My stock turbo went out, looking at getting the k04 upgrade over going with a factory replacement, it’s close in price
Not bad for 91. I currently have a cts k04 on my gen1 tsi. Eurodyne. Did 305whp 355wtq. How much boost on these apr files? Also, what are you rotating the engine too? Can't wait to get my GTX30 in the car that I got from you and have you tune it. Hopefully it will be in soon. Thanks
So 3rd and 4th gear on this setup have different Rev limits. I do know that some of the GLIs and CCs have a known weaker valve springs. So I suspect APR has something in their file related to that but I'm working with them on it as not all GLIs have the weaker springs.
Fantastic gains. Will be an excellent daily with 308whp / 333wtq.
Fo sho!
I have an older gti and was worried about leaks at the internal waste gate. If it gets worse is it better to just have the wastegate redone or use this as a time to upgrade to the 04? I’m pretty happy with how the turbo runs now but with it due for timing chain overhaul and a new clutch in the future I’m worried that the APR tune will just make the waste gate issue worse. Is swapping a turbo in with a external wastegate better for a long term solution or is the 04 kit worth it because of east of installation and compatibility?
Only you know the answer to that. All comes down to your budget.
How much was the whole setup total
How is the stock LPFP doing with the K04 setup. On my car I did the LPFP upgrade and it reaalllyyyyy improved the power right from the boost strike till the max RPM
We've never seen an issue with stock lpfp on k04s.
Man that stock diverter valve is screaming 🤣
Doing what it's supposed to.
How can I get the best power out of my 07k 2.5 Jetta? You guys do great work and I want to get your input on this build?
Boost it. Amazing engines boosted.
How are you tuning the apr files? Or are you just uploading different maps and doing many pulls?
You can not tune APR files. These files are based off the kits they sell and work very well if you use hardware similar to what they're intended for.
I have a CBFA Gen 1.. Will the CHRA K04 work on mine if my down pipe has the bung for the secondary O2 sensor? Don't see any other differences regarding KO4s. Thanks
It should have the same 4 bolt flange setup! There shouldn’t be any difference other than more expensive and more power lol! 🙌🏻 a bitch to install by yourself, it’s always nice have an extra hand around when you feel like hitting the floor or other things lol 😆 it’s all worth it though! I have a 2011 CBFA GTI 4 door for reference.
hello I have a question I have a gli 2012 it has all the pipes and intercoler stage 2 delete pipe the coils can I put a k04 on it without problem or do I have to reprogram it... thanks
Of course you need to reprogram it. The turbo moves more air which requires more fuel. Can you install it and easily drive it to be tuned yes. But driving it around like that you're just asking to melt it down.
Ok I have to ask... exhaust setup ? Lol I'm looking for quiet but good power for my 12 gli and this sounded pretty good
Borla cat back
just a dp might be enough. keep stock exhaust with a good dp does sound good.
Is there a turbo upgrade for gen 6 1.8 jettas? I have a 2014 1.8t. Couldn’t really find much
No
I know there's been tons of debate about the genuine BW kits and the CTS/HPA kits. Have you guys seen first hand any trouble with the lower cost non-Borg Warner K04s? Seems to be tons of folks out there with tens of thousands of miles on those turbos. I ask because I want to use that HPA "hybrid" like the car in this video.
I think long term the BW will live longer but at this point none of the cars we've done the off brands on have enough miles for me to compare to an OE turbo.
@@COMotorsports Thanks, appreciate you guys!
Correct me if I’m wrong, the b7 Passat has the k03 as well?
All the gen1/2 TSI have the k03.
Dude. You guys HAVE TO give a review on APRs new 6054 turbo setup. I'm genuinely curious how "lazy" you think one of these setups will feel on a manual transmission MK7. I'm heavily considering going this route and appreciate your input.
None of APRs turbo have ever been lazy. So that's very unlikely. The good part about APR is the provide more data then anyone so you can simply go on their site and see all their dyno graphs.
@@COMotorsports well, let me substantiate it a bit. At 2000 RPM the stock IS20 setup makes 250WTQ. With the 6054 setup it makes around 185. Torque matches stock at 2750RPM. Kinda seems like it would be a bit lazy and then the turbo would hit pretty hard when it did spool.
@@MeltingRubberZ28 that's how turbos work though. There's always a trade off. You want the potential to make more power it comes at a price. The good thing is it's a lot better than it was 10 years ago.
@@COMotorsports so you agree that it may be lazy around town then lol
@@MeltingRubberZ28 No I don't agree at all. Lol that's not remotely close to laggy lol
Love this content. I have a MK6 2.0 bug. Have done a Unitronic downpipe, Magnaflow GTI 3" exhaust, Apr air intake and run Unitronic stage 2+ tune. Their file shows I "should" be over 320hp with 93. Should I expect to come close to those numbers without upgrading the turbo? It runs great and I'm already fighting wheel spin into third on a hard pull. I don't want to spend the $$$ and make it un drivable... any comments?
This is whp. Crank hp is different then wheel.
Good luck at those figures with the ihi rhf5 😁 mine made 285 on the dyno and the actuator shat itself so the k04 route made my day😉

What's a good size turbo for a 07K? I have billet rods and Pistons from IE, their intake manifold and I have the cams for it but I've heard you have to disable the variable cam gears with it so I don't know if I'm gonna run them yet
Also money is not a issue, I'd rather spend more for a good turbo than save money on a ok turbo
All depends on what the vehicles being used for and power goals. We can certainly provide the right turbo once we know more details. Email us.
@@COMotorsports alright, I'm waiting for tax money so I can buy the turbo manifold and turbo.... What's your email

Was on my way to have my k04 installed parts in trunk - piston rings went at 164,000 miles. You worried about that at all or was mine more of a oddity
All comes down to health of engine.
Longlife oil changes ends like this. Regular fluids say 4kmiles it increases the longevity 10 fold
Remarkable numbers for 91oct.
Electrical issues... I drive a mk1 TT because I hate happiness
Been there done that, amazing clusters in those. lol
@@COMotorsports Apollo mission levels of redundancy in the vw crap that still gets you to work but then Dr. Suess took over engineering.
How long does the install take on the turbo? Does the engine have to come out?
All depends on your skillset, which K04 you're using and the tools at your disposal. No the engine does not have to come out.
2.0Hoopty next? (Gen 1 tsi)
Wish you were closer. I’ve got a couple good stock engines I’ve pulled out of scrap that could be sent to the moon.
The issue is fueling in those, not really a cost effective option to make big power.
@@COMotorsports For entertainment purpose could you run an inline boost a pump controlled by a hobbs switch that would turn the pump on? Or is there more to the MK6 fueling issue? I would also love to see you do a 2.0tsi hoopd.
@@junktime6076 That's fine, and people do it like that which isn't ideal IMO. It's the injectors/hpfp and controlling them which is the problem. It can be done but it is not cheap. Which is why most Gen1/2 TSI' stop just over 400whp. Some use W/M to get to 500 but there becomes a hard stop even with that.
Hold up bro what u mean? I’m stage 2 Intergrated engineering and my dad rode with me a few weeks ago and he said my car feels like it pulls like a V8! He is a hot rod guy all the way true muscle car he said I could stand a chance against someone the way the car felt pulling from a dead stop!
hi guys, when you say torque, do you mean ft lb or nm
In North America it's always ft-lbs.
No injectors? Or fprv
Can you do the same for a 113
StockInjectors are big enough for this turbo and a bit larger on the TSI.
This is the second video I've watched on this channel where you're getting a dyno run on a VW that has DV whistle... is that normal, or is the diverter valve bad? My 2011 VW GTI does the same thing when I accelerate hard so I ordered a DV+ last week.
Compressor surge.
@@COMotorsports I don't think that's what it is. It's a really loud, high pitch whistling sound when the car is under heavy acceleration. It doesn't sound like any turbo sound or even any mechanical sound at all. The first time I experienced it in my GTI I thought it was coming from the speakers because it sounds electronic. The sound starts at about 1:35 in this video and stops right at 1:40.
@@tacticalteamkilling6539this is 100% the DV, there’s lots of videos out there that illustrate this. If you have any modifications on these mk6s the stock one usually starts failing. Changing them fixes the noise and the lack of power that comes along with it.
@@ItSoupyuo I ended up replacing my OEM DV with a GFB DV+ and the sound went away and my car is way more responsive now. I don't think @COMotorsports understood the question.
@@tacticalteamkilling6539 in a lot of the mk6s on the channel you can hear all the failing DVs and nobody is talking about it 😅
Have you ever done anything with a Golf GTE?
I don't even know what that is. Lol
Was that the ko4-64 upgrade from APR
Pretty sure it's in the video. CTS K04.
Does this set up have a CEL?
No it has software that matches the mods.
I have a mk6 gti and my brother got a mk6 gli and didn't tell me xD he must of liked my car ;) he doesn't know much about cars. Anyway id love to k04 my gti. k04s confuse me tho. Idk what kits are the real k04 064. Or the k03 hybrid k04 bullcraps
Just buy a genuine BW K04, that's what this is.
Buy cheap buy twice is what my parents told me...... Borge Warner is tried and tested all over the world
@@COMotorsports yeah ik that but the sellers are misleading in their descriptions from what iv seen they all claim to be borg Warner k04064s but some of them are the k03 hybrid sht and u can't but the turbo straight from BW. So you have to pick hpa IE CTS APR. Idk what ones are legit
@@hyper8545 APR, IE use genuine BW turbos.
@Noah Dunn edited my comment. I don't sell HPA stuff but I thought it was. But I stand corrected as I see it is hybrid. Proving once again k04 hybrids do mostly nothing compared to genuine versions.
So on a K04 from 220hp to 308hp not much of a difference I’ve seen FBO stage2 make 280hp

Man those are pathetic stage 2 numbers don’t you guys think? I realize it’s 91 octane but doesn’t APR claim somewhere in the ballpark of 280-290 hp for 93 octane? Does the octane make that big of a difference or are the numbers pretty exaggerated?
Did you watch the video? Also there's a big difference between wheel hp and crank hp as well.
@@COMotorsports yes. I’m referring to the numbers prior to the k04. Didn’t it only put down about 220? I understand there’s somewhere around 20% less power between crank and wheel hp but that would only account for less than 40 hp. APR seems to be taking a bit of liberty with their claims. I could be wrong but I recall them claiming nearly 80 hp gains off of 93 octane. Hardly seems worth the effort to gain 19 hp out of over 1000$ of modifications. You’re better off just going on a diet to shed a few lbs.
The k04 gave awesome gains though.
@@thatsmyassbrostop you need to watch the video again. I talk about why it was down on power.
@@COMotorsports ah missed that part
Thats lame that you cant make changes to the tune. Im sure they are holding back timing and boost in an off the shelf map...They should allow the user to make chanfes to boost + and -1 say 15% at all RPM ranges at WOT. same for fuel and timing
I disagree, and these it's files are great from our experience.
@@COMotorsports so you'd rather not have any control over the tune? what's the point of even having the dyno at that point...? I'm not talking shit I'm legitimately wondering
@@KrustyQuad for me sure, but for the average consumer which would be 99% of the market for tunes like this it doesn't make sense. Be endless folks wrecking stuff and complain it's the companies fault when it was a hardware or user error to begin with. Most people don't realize the repercussions to their actions when it comes to tuning and hardware. I've had customers b!tch about a specific brand of tune....I ask many questions to determine why because I haven't had the same experience...after asking the right questions I find out they weren't running the proper injectors for their tune. Well no wonder it doesn't run right.... however for years that person bad mouthed the company because of this experience. It would only be times worse if everyone had access to stuff like this.
@CO Motorsports Theres tuning systems that work as i described that have been out for the decade on other platforms. I'm not talking standalone or anything like that. Diablo sport for srt4s allows the user to make changes to canned tunes and you can dial in a basemap yourself. All this bs you pay $900 and you can't make changes to the tune you just paid for is ridiculous. I mean half these people don't eve know what a wideband is these days...like it's not hat difficult..... Hey by the way, I just got the e85 refresh for my mk8 gti...any idea what sort of trap speeds the mk8 will do on corn?
After watching the hoopty doing runs these dynos seem so uneventful.
We're sharing real data. Lots have k04s or want k04s. The hoopties junk and not really realistic.
@@COMotorsports oh I know, didn't mean for it to sound bad. The hoopty was just pure excitement to watch. This is good info, I wish the mk4 could pick up that kind of power from a K04. I live in California so any mods gave to be inconspicuous enough to pass the smog guy.
@@luisg1653 yeah we never do k04s on 1.8t, generally not worth it in my experience
I run a hybrid K04 on my MK6 (CTS Motorsport's K04-X) and I was curious what kind of power this K04 would make with the slightly smaller compressor housing and wheel and 91 octane instead of the 93 that we have here. Part of what sold me on the hybrid K04 was that I had read that the standard K04s were making ~300-320 whp, whereas the K04 hybrids would make a bit more (CTS claims ~400 whp with their K04-X).
