Lisa, this video is fabulous! Thank you SO MUCH for sharing your process with us. The normal speed of your video allows us to see your applications beautifully. You are amazing!
Jennifer! So glad you enjoyed the video!! I am happy that you feel you learned from it in the way I filmed it! I am still kind of new to UA-cam and it is a lot of experimenting in how to film things!! Many thanks and I hope you will watch the other videos as well!
Thank you Lisa,🎨🎨🎨 what a meaningful step by step to simplification of Cold Wax and Oil. I am looking forward to watching several times before I try my first Cold Wax, Appreciatively, Judy
I loved your 3 video series a few months ago in the studio and have watched them more than once. I enjoyed this one also. I have incorporated your technique of spraying solvent and lifting thru various means into my painting process and what a wonderful difference it has made to the final painting. My primary focus is color and texture, so these techniques with solvent and tissue paper helped me take it to the next level. Thank you so much! I look forward to any videos that you care to post.
Melanie, so glad you enjoyed the last series and you are incorporating these techniques into your work! I hope you will continue to watch this series too and like it as well! More videos posting soon! Thanks Melanie!!
What a great video. The texture from that tissue layer lift was divine. I've been interested in Cold waxz and oil for awhile and this video is a great demonstration of the processes. Thank you so much for sharing
Lisa hi I am really inspired by your techniques, and tutorials. I have just finished my first cold wax oil and now really raring to do more. Instead of spending 30 hours on a landscape now I can produce an abstract in under an hour. What I really need to know is instead of using made for art wax like a Gamblin wax is there a cheaper alternative? Like a household furniture wax ? It is very expensive to use if i consider doing a larger piece.
So glad you have enjoyed my videos! It is such a fun medium!! I would not recommend any other cold wax other than artist grade because we want to make sure our paintings last a long long time! Watch for sales at Cheap Joes, Jerry’s Artarama and Dick Blick. That is what I do too! It is expensive but it goes a long way! Paint on!!
Thank you Lisa for a great tutorial. Learnt so much from it. Just thought you might like to know your link to Amazon isn't working for some reason. In the meantime, I will google search the listed supplies items. Many thanks for sharing.
Chitchat 100, thanks so much for watching! Glad you are learning from the videos! Hope you will try the link again. Somedays it is quirky and doesn't work, but do try it again! Lots of fun things on the shop/lisab.boardwine site! www.amazon.com/shop/lisab.boardwine
In one of your videos you used a stencil. Could you say how you did that exactly. Love watching your videos. Thank you so much for sharing your talent.
Rosie, I use a stencil by laying it on the panel/paper, then pick up paint/wax mixture on a soft brayer and roll it over the stencil or pick paint up on your squeegee and pull it over the stencil. So fun to add bits and pieces of a stencil, into a piece of work!
Thank you so much! It is actually a bowl or dough scraper! Silicone edge. So good to paint with! Check out my amazon storefront for supplies I use! www.amazon.com/shop/lisab.boardwine
Hi ! I want to thank you for sharing this wonderful tutorial! I want to start Wax and oil painting myself. I hav to ask you a question.. How long can you pause between paint sessions?? Wil it dry soon? I have to take a lot of pauses due to a chronic illnes.. so i just want to be informed. Thank you and kind regards Silvia
Silvia, Thank you for watching! Painting with Oil and cold wax medium is a fun process! It does dry faster than traditional oil paint, because of mixing your oil paint with the cold wax. However, it does take time to learn how long to let the paint set up between doing different layers and techniques. It does not dry as quickly as acrylics -so you would have time to take pauses and come back to it. In fact this helps give the paint time to set up so you can do the next layer! I hope you have fun and enjoy experimenting and learning about the oil/cold wax process! All the best!
Hi Lisa, I'm a new subscriber and fan of your art. Could you please indicate me a video that shows the first steps. I have no idea on how to start. I appreciate it, Thanks
Hi Solange! Thank you so much for watching my channel and for being a Subscriber and a fan!! I have a couple earlier videos where I show you some of the beginning tools and supports, how to gesso, and some basics of getting started. I hope you will view these videos and that they help you get started on your own art journey in oil/cold wax! ua-cam.com/video/u9CzJTrZBU4/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/yhAQqnvfD3A/v-deo.html
Hi Lisa, Gesso day is a great video as much as all the others I could watch. Thank you !I realize that I'm not working with the right mediums/brands. I need that first coat with the smoot encaustic feeling that my regular gesso and acrylic paints are not performing as well.
Is that first colour over the base burnt umber? Would it be possible for you in the future to print the names of the colours as you add new ones? (I have difficulty hearing).
Anya, It is Asphaltum, a dark, rich brown made by Gamblin. The colors I used are in the description above, but I will hopefully learn how to add text to the videos, so I can add names as I go. I am still learning how to do things with my filming and editing, always something to learn, right?! But it is fun! Thanks so much for watching!
Rosie, you can absolutely preserve your palette! I lay a piece of saran wrap or a piece of waxed paper over my palette so it stays wet until the next day. You can also store extra paint in small containers that have lids, to preserve it for later use! Thanks for watching!
Great! So many thanks for sharing your tips and ideas with us!

thank you for this video. Is the first coat indian yellow with acrylic or oil/wax?
Christine, thank you for watching!! The first layer is Indian yellow and it is oil and cold wax! 🎨

Solange, the gesso can be applied very smoothly and also you can sand it to make it even smoother!! Thank you so much for tuning in to my videos!!

Many thanks Anya!!! New videos coming soon!
question for clarity: Is the white etc mixed with wax that you use often ? Barbara LoLordo
Barbara, yes all my color is mixed with the cold wax medium. I use about a 50:50 ratio of paint to wax. Thanks for watching!
I have another question.....can you preserve your palette when you don't use up all your paint?
Rosie, you can absolutely preserve your palette! I lay a piece of saran wrap or a piece of waxed paper over my palette so it stays wet until the next day. You can also store extra paint in small containers that have lids, to preserve it for later use! Thanks for watching!
Can water soluable oil paints be used in this process?
Mary, yes I have several students who use them. A few of my student have said some of the techniques don't seem to work as well,, but give it a try!
binge watching your "season"
That is terrific Lynn!! Thanks so much! Hope you enjoy!!!
