I think you're underestimating Ren's singing please react to his live music with Sam Tompkins & The Big Push you might be happily surprised.
The song is about a friend of his that self deleted. Sometimes when we loose a friend all our riches turn to rusty they there but they don't seem so shiny anymore. Sometimes we feel like our friends and family complete us and when they are gone we forget how to be ourselves. It's about why self deletion causes great pain to all those who the gone left behind.
He tried to make it very obvious be cause ; is the international symbol for self deletion. he also tried to make it obvious in the last line of the song. You didn't get that for 2 reasons: 1) you aren't perfect 2) it's an honest first reaction so there are things that might go over your head. You only human bro peace.
The Live Version Blows this out of the Water, sung on top of a Bridge as a Tribute to Rens Friend Joe Hughes who the Song is For, Joe ended his Life jumping from the Menai Bridge and was never found, if you watch the Live version the emotion is Raw and you can see the Tears rolling down Rens Cheeks as he says the last line about missing his Friend. RIP Joe Hughes.
She is dropping a new song at UK midnight tonight! Otherwise Her song Elements is a good way in. If you want to hear Ren sing sing, check him out with his band the big push. Their busking sessions fir I shot the Sheriff/Road to Zion/ Hip Hop and the one entitled Wade in the water/ Nina Simone / Trouble so hard would be good. Or their version if Englishman in New York. Also, the live version if How to be me is better.

Good points on the mental health notes. Def check out the live version, it's stunning. And they balance each other out even tho Chinchilla is def a powerhouse! The raw emotion makes it so much more powerful and it's easier to catch that Ren's referring to how his life's struggles have also been impacted by the death of his friend. I interpret this song as a description of grief, which feels unfair because it's so beautiful. When you lose someone that's such a big part of your life, who are you without them? The lines about being unable to breathe, and nothing pulling us through, not religion or anything else makes it hurt less. That pain of grief follows everywhere, especially to bed when we're alone with our thoughts. Just my 2 cents, beautiful song

i'd be interested in your reaction to The Big Push - the band Ren was / is the main vocalist. they mainly do covers, but takes all of the material to new heights. "I shot the sheriff / Road to Zion / HipHop" is PHENOMENAL, then "War Pigs" is a must.

I inteperet this as being sung from his friends point of view, and the desperation he must have felt .and then the last part is Ren's perspective, I could be wrong though..
I first took it as how Ren lost himself to his psych meds, but once I learned that it was about Joe, & that last verse clicked... I started feeling that it was Ren being haunted by Joe's memory.
