First Time Reacting To Ren X Chinchilla "How To Be Me" | Wow This Song Hit Me Hard - REACTION
In this video, we react to the great songwriter Ren as he plays "How To Be Me". This is my first time seeing this video and I am blown away by this song and what it is about. You can tell is dealing with his mind in this one and I know it is about his friend that committed suicide and It is really touching on how the lyrics in the songs are haunting and mysterious. "How To Be Me" really moved me because it talks about how we can go through a bad situation and get stuck in our minds and have a hard to come out and overcoming what we are dealing with. The chorus once again in this song is so brilliant. This song "How To Be Me" really moved almost to the point I cried because the last verse was so personal and I commend Ren on getting that out and off his chest I can only imagine what he went through 😢

@J Hoop Ren is not mainstream and he recognizes that which is why he continues to produce his own music. Ren makes you think and feel, not everyone wants that in their music. Many just want the 'Calgon take me away' experience. Hope I haven't out dated myself with that quote. Lol.

@J Hoop I know exactly how you feel. I’ve been absolutely obsessed for the past 2-3 weeks since I discovered him, haven’t listened to anyone else lol. I showed him to my girlfriend because we have the exact same taste in music and everything I’ve shown her, she’s just been like “yeah he’s pretty good.” Like I think he’s a generational talent, just gonna go down as one of the most creative artists this century, and she’s not that into him and it blows my mind😅
@J Hoop yes I've noticed some reactors are very uncomfortable with him hitting their nerves..it seems to me they relate to him too much and they are not ready to get in touch with their deep feelings within a superficial world.
You can see how deep Chinchilla is in to the performance when she steps back and shakes her head!

You gave me another way to think about this song. I always listened to it as how his friend must have been feeling before taking his life. But that is the beauty of Ren. Either interpretation works. His genius talent is on another level. I’m so glad he’s getting the acclaim he deserves.

Thank you once again for your thoughtful introspection on the subject matter. Anyone who has experienced this kind of event in life knows how heavy a heart can weigh. I love the way Rens voice can convey so much of that in just a note or a tone. I also love their use of the round technique in this song. It is very underused in todays era of music and creates such a full sound. Especially when you harmonize as well as these two, it's like their voices are a yin and yang. Also a side note .. you are the first reactor I have seen that did not immediately pause ( be it this or chalk outlines) and make comment on Chinchillas fingernails lol. Congratulations. This is maybe the 10th time I’ve watched this but even before your comment I did for the first time notice her nails in this one, if only because at one point I was afraid she was gonna accidentally rake him when she leaned in lol. But I get lost in the voice.

It's like : _"How can I even be me, in the absence of you."_ It's sweetness and it's pain all at once. Absolute Fire!
The _"bruises on the walls, bodies in the floors"_ part... I take it to mean the ghosts/memories/reminders of the person... there are bodies in the floor (and they breathe so loudly) ... that is such awesome imagery. Again, it really conveys the unshakable pain of losing someone you were close with, and how you can still feel their presence in everything and it just kills you.
Ren is just brutally, raw and honest. Seriously, this is *music that saves lives*
Also, people keep saying they're performing "on a rooftop" ... Maybe. But if you look at the background there are a line of city lights on the right, then darkness on the left. It sure looks like a city river front. And, as the camera moves around near the beginning you can see a patch of reflections in the water.
I believe that they are on the bridge. And that makes this all the more personal.

I am so glad to see you give credit to Chinchilla's amazing performance. Not that I expected any different from you. I watched one reaction to Chalk Outlines (Live) where the guy reacting actually stated that Chinchilla was completely unnecessary and more of a distraction than a value to the performance. He called her a little girl trying too hard to keep up with Ren. Very disrespectful and dismissive of her talent. I couldn't believe it.
I am looking forward to following you on your Ren journey, and I hope that you will include some of his performances as a member of The Big Push. Well worth it.
Chinchilla is the best and I am glad I came across her through Ren. Their harmonies are something I have not heard in a long time and it is just great to hear. What you want and the two What went wrong tracks are really funny, though What went wrong has a serious message too. If you haven't heard Ren's other song for his friend, Freckled Angels, then I can't recommend it highly enough. I think it will be really impactful for you. Both the studio version and the live version at the Regal are excellent in slightly different ways. Though only watch them on a day when you can cope with a little heartbreak.

Baptism is transformation. You are shaped by that experience. I wonder if the halls are informed by experiences of psychosis that make things experienceable? I like your idea of the head. I thought it was a physical space that was shared that evokes the image. A bit Tell-tale Heart.
But it also might have been his friend's experience first? That would mean that the first part of the song is about what lead to that quick decision in the night, and the final part is about the fallout. Thank you again for sharing your thoughts like this. I really appreciate you. There is an Old English poem, at least 950AD, called Deor (Dear one) that has the chorus 'That passed, so may this'. statement still is as relevant I think. Let the pain flow through. Accept it, and you'll get the space to make the first step with your load.

So glad you decided to react to this video, I truly think this one is my favorite. The vocals alone are superb, but then the words expressing Ren's inner turmoil is gut-wrenching. I've been their myself and know the feeling well of everything hurting, every thought, sound, breath.... I believe Ren lost his friend, Joe, right around the time he started getting really I'll He describes his friend as really funny, uplifting and a huge part of his life. I'm going to add a link to the article I found about Joe's suspected suicide. Ren wrote the sone Freckle Angel as a tribute to Joe not long after his death. I agree with your interpretation. I also believe that in losing his friend he also lost a confidant and a solid footing in his damaged world. Let alone Ren and his friends no doubt carry trauma and guilt (not their fault) over the loss. I could be way off, but that's my take.
I also saw Ren's update and have already posted some love. He absolutely deserves to come out of this whole, he's fought the good fight for a long time. Of course on a selfless note, we benefit too, as we will be blessed to watch Ren bloom into a heather version of himself. ❤️❤️❤

Keep striving for your own peace and happiness. It's worth it. At 68 I've see and lived through a lot of sadness and loss.
