In hindsight, I forgot to mention the Scanner Room can use a fair bit of power while actively scanning. Each solar panel you install will increase the max power of your base by 75 as well as how much it will recharge during the day.
The Biofuel reactor isn't self-sustaining, but is a good way to generate larger amounts of power and faster by throwing things into it (Fish, plants, etc). Now that you've started growing things you could throw in plants for power.
Later on you can get other power-generating options, one of which works very nicely based on where your base is currently located.
Highly recommend the first Scanner Room upgrade be the HUD chip, this will allow you to see the things it has scanned out in the world much like the waypoints like "Home".
While the speed upgrades are nice, I usually prefer the range increase upgrades. After the first few things have been scanned, it'll usually find the others while you're out looking for them so the speed is less essential.
The purple caves below your base: Those worms are semi-aggressive, they'll attack if you're near them but won't venture far from their shrooms. They're not nearly as strong as things like the Reaper.
Knife is your friend, almost always have it equipped. Piranha wants to nibble on you? Shank it until it can't (If you shank the exploding fish in the first few seconds you can kill them before they blow up on you too).

    • @vahlanayru
      @vahlanayru  3 місяці тому +1

I had no idea what had happened when my power went and then I saw my one little solar panel struggling for his life, poor guy 🥲 I'm definitely focusing on the upgrades and stuff more now that we have somewhere safer. It's nice being able to pop back and forth to grab resources and work towards upgrades. I'm excited for the reactors etc and to find what else I can make!
Those worm things are the scariest sounding worms I've ever heard in my life. They sound like sheer terror hahaha
      Got it, MORE KNIFING 🔪

It is great to see you getting more comfortable, with the sharks and such not even phasing you at this point. Soon you will be a deep sea pro! Couple of things:
    - Nothing too dangerous in the jellyshroom caves except the worms though the excellent sound design is quite scary sounding
    - The scanner room, while scanning, draws a ton of power. That is why you ran out at night when the solar panels aren't charging. Current/total charge is at top of screen.
    - You cannot build too much storage.
    - Scanner room is your friend. Spending time investigating it when you can.
    - Tubes only connect on the ends, so use the 3 or 4 point tubes to turn corners.

    • @vahlanayru
      @vahlanayru  3 місяці тому +1

They're basically like having neighbours now 😅
      - WHY do those worms sound like that, it's terrifying
      - That makes total sense, got a reactor etc on the list of to dos now
Also the building is so finicky, I lose my patience so fast and things end up somewhere super random hahaha
Thank you for the tips 💜

    @darwin7785 3 місяці тому +7

I love your Subnautica series, Vah I will give you some tips that I think could help:
    1. Bioreactor: From this point, you will need things that consume a lot of power. You will need a new room and you can place it in the middle, it is fueled by any organism, I do recommend that you use Creepvine Seed Clusters, which give you a lot of fuel, you can create an outdoor grown bed to plant them and put it on top of your foundation for easy access.
    2. A battery charger: you can construct a battery charger and place it on any wall, then you can recharge any battery that went to zero so you will not need to collect the ingredients for another battery.
    3. Scanner Room: In the scanner room there is an upgrade which is a chip that goes on the character's HUD, it will display in real-time the location of any loot, so when you go out the scanner will feed on your HUD where the materials are.

It seems you're doing well with getting a solid base set up! Your next step is to get a laser cutter and the safest way to get diamonds early on is to go back to the island where the ship got shot down and go up the mountain into the caves

Loving your playthrough! Please, do continue. A couple non-spoilery tips:
    - When you get tired of chasing the bladder fish for water, there's an easier way: craft bleach from salt + coral tube sample. You can then turn that bleach into TWO medium sized water bottles. That's 60 points of water compared to the 20 points you get from a bladder fish.
    - The power issue: the scanner room is a major power hog when it's actively scanning something. Just remember to turn the scanning off when you don't need it, and you will be fine.
    - No need to throw the empty batteries to the trash bin. Remember that you already have scanned and discovered the battery charger...
    Waiting the next episode! 🙂

You'll have to go down there again to the Jellyshoom caves. It's mostly safe. it's imperative to the story. There's a lot of diamond, magnite, and sometimes lithium and silver. Plus, it's a nice surprise that will help your progression and base building. Only predators are the Crabsnakes you seen, They're cool as long you dont go up to their jellyshooms to steal an egg 😂 There's also heat areas down there that with the construction of a Thermal Plant Generator and a few Power Transmitters, you can daisy chain power directly to your base from it once you scan those two items.
Btw, pro tip: You can add foundation, but once it's fully constructed, you can't remove it from underneath once connected without deconstructing the base above first.
Also, about the scamner room: To add what the scanner room detects to your HUD. Go in the scanner room and build the scanner room. HUD chip with the fabricator located in there. Also, build 4 scanner room range upgrades. Speed doesn't matter. it's negligible.
Lastly, make sure you replant the plants you eat and use. Just stab them once or twice before you pick them up. When you go deeper and come across Gel Sacs, Deep Shroom, and the tall Blood Kelp Vines, plant those outside with the outdoor growbed, they're extremely important to create a ton of useful stuff.

Power: Charging the seamoth, running the scanner room (especially when scanning) using the fabricator - these things all take power.
Solar cells only charge when there's light, and run down when it's dark.
You have the blueprints for other power modules - like bioreactor (others exist, like thermal, for use near volcanic vents, nuclear, for when you fine the right minerals.)
But you will want to go into the jellyshroom cave, and find the structures therein... there are things you need. And want.

The crabsnakes create some of the scariest sounds in the game(ghosty's screech is probably scarier), but they are not really dangerous, so the jellyshroom caves have a lot of mid-game resources for a relatively low price.

Crashfish: they're slow to turn, so backing away until they charge, then running past them, you'll never get exploded.
You should use a grav trap. It grabs nearby fish and holds them indefinitely, so they're easy to catch when you're hungry.
Try to keep hull integrity above 10, just in case a sand shark barrels into it (or you do XD).
You can use an external growbeds for underwater plants (like mushrooms, and gel sacs--which are really good for bioreactor).
Make a HUD chip from scanner room fabricator, then whatever it finds will automatically appear on your screen.

The foundation does give less than the wall reinforcement's but sometimes it's useful for placing items on a more flat surface. 7:56 there's a pda on the box there which you missed, a pro tip is when looking for pdas, sometimes it's best to turn off the lights. Rooms can connect without tubes, you just need to bring them out more away from the other structure and rotate it for rooms like the scanner and in your case the the foundation might get in the way. It's very finnicky but trial an error is needed to see that it all works. 24:30 you'll want to check that fabrication station of the scanner room, there's a hud that'll help and range upgrades to cover more room around where you are.
You can make more solar panels, the energy banks stack. You can color the lockers by clicking the right circles while trying to typing. The smaller platers help with harvesting the marbel melons

Love your self comforting song. Can we hear it from beginning to end?
Feel like fish for dinner? Don't feel like spending time chasing them down? Just make a grav trap!
When adding on to your base keep in mind that a locker on the wall inside will prevent you from adding a tube to that area on the outside.
You will eventually get blueprints for a battery recharger so there's no need to destroy any more used ones in the garbage can. Just save them.
I was surprised the scanner room found as many loose titanium as it did. Maybe they were ones you dropped to make room to pick up something else? Scan for the rocks you break to get the titanium instead, or for metal salvage.
You should check out the camera screen in the scanner room. The cameras are fun, ultimately useless, but fun.
Unfortunately, the whole scanner room is kind of useless without the HUD upgrade, and the main ingredient for that recipe is in the jellyshroom cave...

14:45 It can connect as long as the wall you're trying to connect it to is empty on the inside (also no glass, planter or reinforced walls must be installed) and you have the proper space and positioning for it, just try swimming further backwards until you can see a green tube form between the scanner room and wherever you want it to connect (treat the green building 'ghost' as a physical object that doesn't have enough room because your body is in the way).
You can also build from inside your base. Look at an empty wall and hold the build button until it is finished (it won't show up on the inside until it is 100% finished building), and as long as there is enough space for the room outside it will work. Trial and error, you'll get used to it eventually. Just don't give up if it doesn't work out the first time when you try it.
Also, tubes are, basically, just rooms, they're not necessary for connecting other rooms between each other, unless you want to extend the corridor or something.
And, for your peace of mind I wanna say this: The only way through which you can actually screw up your game that I can think of is if your vehicle gets destroyed while it has key game items (like Purple tablets, ion cubes and such) in it's inventory, and even that may not be 100% the case. You can always find more materials to rebuild/recraft everything else, so no need to be worried. 👍

@31:20 No idea if you've figured out power later in the series, but anyway. The power number at the top center of your HUD is kind of like your buffer or battery.
Each power generator has a buffer. Solar panels each have 75 units. The scanner room, while active, drains a bit of power (still does while idle, but less than 1 unit/min). As the sun sets the solar panel can't keep up and the buffer got drained.
Solar panels get reduced power output the deeper you go, and the rate depends on what biome you're in.
The bio reactor has a buffer of 500 and produces 50 units per minute. Flora and fauna used in it has different energy content so you'll have to experiment.
What catch some people out is that the game drains one buffer at a time based on order of construction for the most part. So the buffer might drop fast initially, but as more generators' buffers get drained they start producing, and thus the drain slows or stop.

Aha, couldn't resist because I'm not that likely to catch a stream, just due to the nature of my free time and net usage! But it's fine, watching the episodes on youtube have been quite fun and nice. It's also very nice to see you handling your fear slowly a little better. I don't think I could sit in a room full of virtual bees and wasps, and feel any better and any less afraid than I do when I meet em in nature! X3
Will join my voice with others, I'm pretty sure there are at least a handful of things that definitively are worth scanning and finding in the purple jelly shroom caves. Wanna reassure you that there's nothing bigger in there than the snake like creatures you've spotted moving into the shrooms. They can be a bit a-holey. But they don't usually roam a lot, or go out of their way that much to chase you if you don't get up in their grills. And for the most part, your Seamoth can take a fair few hits from these more than something like a Reaper!
Good luck and I'll be watching for the next episode!
PS: That capsule message was probably one of the nicest and most encouraging ones I've ever seen, it was so good! And having taken them 2 years to go through the game, it felt like it was almost directly made for you! Lucky!

I don’t normally leave advice on Subnautica videos, but you seem okay with getting it and this is pretty minor, so one little tip: the reason the scanner room only found one bit of titanium was because it was looking for loose titanium, which doesn’t occur naturally, only when you drop it. If you want it to find titanium, you’ll need to tell it to look for metal salvage or limestone outcrops. Hope that helps!

The fear will go, but some strong feelings should stay.
    My feelings in this game:
I'm not comfortable entering a dark cave while knowing that I can forget the way out.
(It is really black with my settings: filmic with a mod for realistic look)
The rescue is a specific upgrade for the Seamoth.

So, the purple shroom cave is home to those leviathan class creatures, but they're more territorial towards the nests that they have inside those shrooms, and they work like those trap spiders, lurking inside the nest waiting for food to pass by, they're not going to chase you for a long time if they agro you, just keep your distance from the top of the shrooms.

Recently found your channel, and will be watching your playthrough of this game. For reference, I must have watched at least 20 playthroughs of this game now, and I have played through Subnautica multiple times on multiple systems. It is well worth taking your time playing, and in my view, you can easily make the episodes longer without me being bored of seeing the playthrough. The only thing, amongst the playthroughs I have watched, that I did not enjoy, was when the playthrough was live, on twitch or wherever the playthroughs are. This is simply because all the chatting with the chat, and the whole interaction with the viewers, distract the gamer from the game, missing things that are easily found when you playthrough the game yourself without distractions from a chat. So you need not worry either about the Thalassophobia. Playthroughs by gamers with Thalassophobia are enjoyable, as the style of gameplay is much like how I liked to play the game, not rushing to fast into things. And the reactions of gamers with Thalassophobia is great, when not spoiled by a chat. So take your time, enjoy the game, because you will probably miss it when it is over.

The seamoth and batery chargers and fabricatior sucks up the energy. 2 bioreactors and you can power more things. Again thank you for that song. It really cheered me up❤❤❤

Trust me, you have about another 4 or five episodes before the game ends and the shrooms caves are less dangerous than the waters around the Aurora and it's good practice for the deeper areas you'll eventually visit to finish the game....... also this might be a bit spoilery but not really, when you build a prawn suit allways park it ether in the moonpool or moonpool like contraption, or park it on a foundation or other buildings. For some reason if you park it on the ground and exit your game when you get back into the game sometimes it gets stuck underground, I don't know if that bug was ever fixed

You gotta go back to the floating island and check everywhere for a missing PDA or 2, one of them should have the location of Degassi's second base in Jelly Shroom Cave which is the "artificial structure" mentioned in 7:26.
Scanner room takes a shitload of power to function when searching for something. If you wanna see the finds once you leave the room, you need to craft the item in the scanner room itself. You can also increase the range and the detection speed.
Might wanna move to use different kind of power generation when the sun is out.
You used the Copper Wire in other tool or part of the base and you forgot about it. It just didn't popped out of existence!
I hope I make it into one of your lockers, never did it for one of Markiplier's.

Should have mentioned last time that foundations do not need to physically connect to the base to give it integrity, just be close. Same for power supplies like solar panels and thermal reactors. Everything you build close together counts as one big base.

  • @KevinEnjoyer
    @KevinEnjoyer 3 місяці тому

Haha, you're far from the end:) Honestly, I'd put your progress meter at around 20-25% from jumping into the water to the end credits. Don't worry.
The biter is annoying, but it's only one of a few aspects that makes me hesitant to build a base in the red grassy biome like you did. You're far away from creepvine. And you'll need A LOT of their seed clusters. As a result, I'd advise you to bring some and plant it down beside your base in an outdoor growbed. The other reason is that you're potentially far away from sites you'll need to frequent for resources. There are many red grassy biomes, so that could be a non-issue. But THE biggest issue is that the red grassy biome doesn't contain as much metal salvage as the safe shallows. That might come back to haunt you.
The big lockers are the way to go. An extra quartz is worth the 30% more storage space.
I recently did another hardcore playthrough for fun, and I've discovered that the large room is BRILLIANT. It takes an outrageous amount of resources (20 titanium and 4 lithium combined into two plasteel ingots) but I had space for everything I needed, which includes the entire suite of habitat modules, large lockers for all resources, TWO bioreactors, an alien containment aquarium, water filtration machine, and TWO moonpools for both my Seamoth and Prawn suit.
Yes, the purple jellyshroom caves are scary. But you need to go down there. There's magnetite down there, and it's a crucial material that'll allow you to go deeper and improve the scanner room. For you, I recommend you gather between 15 and 20 pieces which will ensure that you NEVER need to go down there again. However, on a more strict diet, three pieces is enough. (Spoilers, Two pieces for Seamoth Depth Module MK2 and one for Scanner Room HUD upgrade)
The scanner room is functionally useless without the HUD upgrade. And that requires magnetite. Which, unfortunately for you, can only be found in the Jellyshroom cave. Also, don't search for titanium. Search for metal salvage.
THERE you go, Lana. You're missing Degasi voice log 3. That one will give you the waypoint to their underwater base inside the Jellyshroom cave.
Regarding what happened to the Degasi crew, here's a clue. They made it as deep as 500 meters before they had to abandon ship, and only Bart made it back to the island. You MUST go back to the island for the third Degasi voice log. Otherwise, you won't progress in their story.
Solar panels only work during the day:) I've found to enjoy Thermal plants because they work around the clock. However, a bioreactor is the easiest bet for you.
Once again, salt deposit and coral sample makes bleach, which can make disinfected water. You've got the materials now:)
Conclusion from this video: you must enter the purple biome underneath to get magnetite. Also, you must go back to the island to get the third Degasi PDA which will give you the waypoint for their first underwater base.

Good, I'd hate for this to end so soon!
The biters are a huge pain in the a**. And they always make me jump.
I had no idea you could yoink and plant the creepvines. I'll be adding this to the lil outside garden I plan on building hehehe
Okay, sounds like the large room is the next step for inside the base too
Almost everything is pointing at going back to that cave, which sadly for me, is going to be terrifying hahahaha
Thank you so much for taking the time to share the tips, I really appreciate it! 💜

First :) (never thought I'd write this 😅)
So, it took some time, but the full length of my comment is now available 👇.
    Don't worry, I won't spoiler too much!
8:40 "My tea's gone cold, I'm wondering why I got out of bed at all..." 🎶 Hang it there, you can do it!
11:56 No, you should never be afraid. You are an experienced horror gamer, remember? You can do this!
There is nothing as bad as the reaper down there, nothing that takes all your health at once.
It's like those sand sharks, that you have adapted to already. Annoying, but no big deal.
    Minor scratches, that is all.
Just stay on one side with the wall behind you, watch and move forward as slow or fast as you like.
If you would tumble into their living room habitat like a drunk pink She-Hulk on Molly at a rave, I think it is fair for them to be a little... tipped off. 😇
"If it's loud in your mind, just take your time! You're gonna be okay!" 😊
Concerning the position of the base parts: You can deconstruct anything that is empty. And sometimes you have to play a little with the positioning and the rotation and the distance.
Sometimes things on the inside stop you from adding stuff from the outside and vice versa.
The scanner room e.g. has a long pipe on its own (not that kinda pipe, honey!) leading to it, that only shows up if it gets green and latches onto a fitting counterpart.
You should play around with it a little bit on the distinct height of the rest of the base and then put it further away or closer. See if it turns 💚.
Believe me, I have rebuilt whole bases (plural) because I thought I did something wrong, or I had an edge of a solar panel or a locker overlapping. That was totally unnecessary. You can avoid this!
But why do you still build those tiny storage things instead of the 1x quarz/2x titanium lockers? 😵‍💫😋 You can let all the old storage units go, they are too tiny.
If I were you, by the time it suits you, I would look into better fins, rebreather and bigger oxygen tanks, that helps a lot on the go. 225 l oxygen is better than 135 l. 😊
You can build these at the modification station.
If you had repaired the nuclear power in the Aurora, you would not even need the radiation mask anymore.
15:25 Look at you! 80 m deep and singing on the way farming for stuff! 😃
Now come on, that is a little bit like a flight through a blooming forest of living things and colours!
Concerning the speed of fish, 17:32.
I think you get the "gravitation trap" pretty early. It catches fish nearby, so you can collect them. But don't overfish, you can breed them later in your base! (breeder tank is at -500 m in the deep great reef).
I think jellyshroom caves go to 3-500 m down, but I would take the prawn suit with the drill, so you can collect all those precious stones there.
    31:04 "I am organized!" * power breaking down *
    9 seconds of 🤔
    "Why, why, why?" 😅
Yes it happens when you have too many things that consume energy, like the scanner room for example and you are either too deep, or it is nighttime, so your solar panels don't collect enough light anymore. Energy is shown at the compass (which you have acquired now, congrats!) when you are inside the base. For anything deeper you will need a bioreactor or a nuclear reactor later (which you then have to put exactly into the middle of a multi purpose room) There is also the thermal reactor for near the little volcano things, but I never found a useful place for that one myself.
Btw, the scanner room has those two little cameras, that you mentioned, right next to where you choose your scan-able resources. You can take them for a ride into the caves if you feel safer that way for a first peak.
If you scan a resource with the scanner room, it will show up on your HUD when you're out of the base to get it, but only if you build the implant thingy on the other side of the scanner room first. Very useful!
32:37 Yeah! Organization! You will thank yourself later, it gets more and more confusing. I also lost some really important stuff in between bases and lockers and never found it again. That is kinda frustrating sometimes, when you were searching for it for so long. 😭
But I am enjoying this, I can feel with you in your frustration as well as your joy.
    That's what it's about, isn't it?
I hope you don't mind my longer comments, I don't want to come off as too direct. Plus I have to admit, English is only my second language and autocorrect f*# me up additionally, you might have seen that on twitch. I am sorry, so please be lenient towards me!
If we both can smile a bit for a few minutes, the world's gonna be just a little brighter! 🤗😀
Okay I have one last fact for you. That might be bad, but in order for you to plan ahead, I am gonna tell you: To complete the game, you will have to go to all the bioms. Sooner or later.
I am not done either, but I have gone deeper. Like 1300 m deep. So there is some more to explore. From what I would say, you are about at the middle.
