THANKS FOR WATCHING!
See a lot of negative comments… Give this guy some credit good job, my friend!….thank you!
Very useful and helpful tips
mkb3580,
Thanks for standing up for this guy.
He's honest, and that's a good thing.
And this is real life. Sometimes things don't work the first time, or at all.
I had a brand new bicycle that I couldn't assemble because of a frozen bolt, I tried tapping on it, WD-40, and everything else . Took to some friends in a shop, and they couldn't break ìt free, either.
Those people would be laughing at me, until they saw my friends and their power tools fail, also.
Cool idea. Will try this next time. If it during the summer, I just put the buckets upside down so the hot sun heats the bottom bucket and it expands and I can pull them apart.
Where are the negative comments? All i see is "thanks" "brilliant " "why didn't i think of that" ect.
Where do you see negative comments I don't see any
There is another way to prevent it, you can fold a small piece of cardboard over the rim of the bucket and place the next one in; continue as you stack. Easy and you will not have a problem pulling them apart.
I was a professional painter for 40 years. Wish I would have seen that 40 years ago.Awsome.
This is why old men are important. Full of tricks. Thank you sir!
he i
s a inginear..
Not everybody has a compressor at home ! My old way is to put these stacked / stuck buckets in hot water. Hot water will cause the air in between the bottom of buckets as well as the buckets to expand, then the buckets can be separated easily. Any way, yours is a brilliant idea ! Thanks for sharing ...
Got tired of doing this for years. Finally took the time to put a small rock on the bottom of each one, then stack. It raises them enough to keep from sticking.
Sir, you should receive the Nobel Prize for this work which has plagued man for decades!
The reason they get stuck in the 1st place is because of the vacuum pressure that is formed when the buckets are stacked together. Some of the air in between gets squeezed out, resulting in there being less pressure between the buckets & higher pressure outside. The Earth's atmosphere is literally keeping the buckets squeezed together.
By forcing compressed air between the buckets, you break the air tight seal allowing the air pressure inside to equalize, eliminating the forces keeping them together.
For those who don't have a compressor... putting the bottom bucket in hot water will release it, because the hot water causes the air trapped between to expand forcing the buckets apart.
The hot water also makes the outer bucket expand slightly, and this loosens that bucket's grip on the other one a little.
I’d give you three thumbs up if I could. I’ve tried pulling, prying, throwing them on the ground, but your method worked in two seconds. THANK YOU!
Wow! When I was planting my 5 gallon buckets in April I had several white ones I could not get apart. Even had my 14yr grandson yank from One direction while I yanked from the other! Never thought I could use my air compressor like that.. makes me want to go out and do it right now, except I live in Minnesota and it is freaking cold out there ;)
Adding this to my bucket list.
😂
😂
Great video! This helped my dad separate a dozen buckets he thought he was going to have to throw away. Many thanks sir! 😊
Well, how cool that is!!! The buckets are, what is called, air locked. Essentially, vacuum sealed. putting the air in breaks that seal by putting pressure under bucket.
Great tip! I’m a woodworker, and use plastic garbage cans for scrap wood. They always stick together when you stack the empties. I can confirm this also works for that problem. No more tugging, and pulling, standing on the handle trying to get them apart…Thanks!!
How simple. I never thought of this. Thanks!
For those that don't have a compressor you can use hot water. Pour boiling water from a kettle on the outside bucket and it'll come right apart.
as someone without a compressed to hand this is what i was looking for
Wow. Thank you. Man, the hours spent trying to get them apart. Sometimes I haven't.
Well done lad- especially difficult on a cold day with gloves on. Very much appreciated.
I would have never thought of that! Thank you!!!
Man this is freaky. Just yesterday I was trying to Separate two stuck together buckets. I didn't say anything about it but now all of a sudden this pops up. Spooky.
I’ve had stud like that happen too. I’ll just be sitting at the computer thinking of something and it’s popped up. I was texting my sister one time about getting our mom a new walker and then walkers popped up on the side bar as a shopping suggestion. I have a desktop pc so it’s not that my search on my phone picked the conversation up.
Good idea!! I didn’t think about it, will try it after years of agonising attempts, thank you!!
Thank you sir. Always struggle with these.
Thats what i been doing for years. But others need to know, so thanks for showing others !!!
In the restaurant industry this is a real issue as the empties are often reused and put away wet after washing. That's why those are usually kept near the dishwashing station, because running hot water over the bottom of the bottom bucket will also easily pop it free.
I wish i could get back all the time I've spent separating 5 gallon buckets !!! Gret tip .
I have worked many years in the paint industry and never crossed my mind to try this technique using a burst of air to separate paint buckets. Brilliant and easy way to solve this problem.
Thank you for sharing. I cannot tell you how many times I would use the tug of war method with a worker nearby. Lol😂
I cut pieces of that plastic strapping that is used for packing stuff on pallets. I cut pieces that are about a foot and a half in length and place them in each bucket before stacking them. Keeps them from getting stuck in the first place.
A little foreskin goes a long way preventing problems before they occur😅
Thanks for taking the time to create this video. Never mind the negative comments. Those “little buddies” live in the manufactured Instagram world.
Very cool. This works for putting grips on a motorcycle or bicycle, too!
Owned a bicycle shop in the late 70's and early 80's and we always used compressed air to remove the grips. Hold your thumb on one side and blow the other and off it comes.
Thank You so much l've been flustered by for some time and even thrown them away!
I have a better solution for not allowing this problem to occur and does not need compressed air and will work on every bucket that has a handle. Simply tie a 15 or 20 inch cord or thick string to the handle and when you nest the buckets, simply tuck the cord into the lower bucket as you lower the upper bucket in. The tucked in cord allows air into the lower bucket, breaking the suction that holds the 2 buckets together. Tie a short cord onto all your buckets and they will NEVER BE HARD TO PULL APART. Compressed air did work but my compressor is not always handy. This guy reminds me of me.
This is one of those, "well I'll be damned, what haven't I ever thought of that" videos. Great tip!!!!!
I love taking advice from people with experience. Makes me look smarter when the time comes.
Tie a piece of curtain rope ( or something around 3/16 " dia. and the length of the bucket ), to one side of the carry handle. Throw the rope end into the bucket. It will keep the vacuum from forming when you go stack 'em.
i have found other ways but this is great along with water hoses but i like the idea of using these to grow in, FANTASTIC
YOU ARE THE MAN.
THANKS SO MUCH FOR YOUR TIP.
BEING A DISABLED VET AT TIMES MY NEIGHBOR COULD HEAR MY FRUSTRATION TRYING TO DO WHAT YOU HAVE SHOWED ME IS EASY..THANKS SO MUCH.
Sir, you are a rock star! Thank you for the common sense fix!
This by far is the best tip I've heard all year. I have multiple buckets that I've accumulated over the years and have stacked them. Some of my stacks seemed to be welded together. LOL. Later on, I put a piece of lumber inside the buckets. I have an air compressor but never thought about using it to unstick the buckets. Good job.
Dang..!!! I say, you just taught this old dog a new trick..!!!
I have a compressor, I have stuck buckets, I never thought of using them together like this. brilliant idea, thanks for the tip
Good little tip. What I do so they don’t get stuck in the first place is stick a couple rags or a sponge on the bottom before you stack them, they won’t stick
I’ve been in construction and painting for almost 40 years. I guess I’ve been lucky that I’ve never had buckets stuck together that I couldn’t get apart. I’ve always been able to get them apart. Air compressor idea is a great idea though.
Taking this idea with me to work ....we have stu k buckets....maybe I will get a "star" for this great idea that "I" mysteriously came up with...lol
Great Idea, never thought of doing that, Thanks. Simplicity is always Best Method. Sometimes we merely "over think" thing and now YOU have saved us a lot of Frustration.
Pure genius if you ask me! I will surely be doing this! Thank you!
I've broken the handles off of so many buckets trying to get the unstuck! I can't wait to try this...
Great video and I have both of those, stuck buckets and an air compressor. Thanks, I’ll use it next time I go out in the garage.
You’re talking to a drywall contractor, if you don’t have air. Hold top bucket bye the handle, tap bottom bucket keeping tapping, or don’t put your buckets together wet especially muddy, I’m sitting on two stacks of 50 right now, buying only boxes after the prices have gone through the roof. 3 to 6 dollars a bucket right now. Still good idea with the air. Make do with what you have.
Omg been struggling with this problem for 40 years!!! Whoda thunk there was a video of a solution for this problem!!❤
Thanks. I will try this next time! Boiling water over the bottom bucket around where the bottom of the the next bucket sits works too. It softens the plastic just enough to ease it off.
...you're a thoughtful handyman, bud and I thank you for this idea!...
I liked as well😊
Thank you. Great idea. I’m older and weaker now. Appreciate this.
Almost threw my buckets away. It literally took me seconds to get mine free using this method. Mine had been stuck for years.
I figured out this trick years ago , but you are right most peeps don’t know how to get them apart
If you don't have a compressor, you can run hot water on outside of lower bucket. They separate really easy then. I don't know the science of it (I can't imagine it would be enough to hea the air to expand, nor enough to soften the bucket), but I know it works and that's good enough for me
it does indeed work by heating the air , best and easiest method there is. don't need a compressor and is way easier than the fight this guy put up
Neat trick I have found that if the buckets are dry before they are stacked they tend not to stick as much.
Such a simple idea, but a great Solution! Thanks!
WOW, MIND IS BLOWN! Thank you for Sharing this needed tip!
Great technique for separating 5gal Drywall Bucket's! Thanks for sharing your tip!
Been working with buckets for years. Never thought of that. Simple and easy. Thanks
Thanks for showing others this well known trick, it may help those younger kids solve a problem. If they start doing it I'll loose a lot of 5gal throw-a-ways out on the curb.
A piece of twine placed between the buckets when stacking works very good
Thank you for the tip ,my son and I fight these buckets all the time.
Nice! The idea is that vacuum is what's sticking them together, not friction. So getting some air down in there is all that's needed. Good solution!
Thanks for that. Now I will never have to struggle with my buckets. So simple and yet effective.
Very good idea. I think the reason they get stuck together is because when you put one bucket into another, it pushes the air out, and then they seal against one another. Thanks for sharing.
If you don't have an air compressor a garden hose with a stream nozzle works as well.
Great discovery. My sculpture instructor taught us that trick back in the 1980s.
Was NEVER taught this trick before today and I am 73! Never took up sculpturing either
I appreciate you sharing this technique to separate plastic buckets. When they get vacuum-locked like that, it is a PITA to get them apart. Very ingenious!
Thanks
Now I can take this off of my bucket list. 😂
Damn I have a stack of 8 buckets I'll use this trick on❤
Drop a small rock in the bottom of each one before stacking them in the first place. In that way they won’t fit so tight together. You won’t need an air compressor.
Bottle cap will work, too. And who can't save a few dozen of those in a week?
i have blocks of Styrofoam for large recycling bins to stack them you can't use this trick since they have drain holes in bottom.
Just curious but how does a rock or bottle cap prevent the vacuum? Is it because there’s an object in the space?
It takes a fairly large rock, bigger than the space between the two buckets. I don't have rocks in my garden. A bottle cap isn't big enough, besides idea, I don't drink beer or soda.
Put enough in so the bucket bottoms out so they don't stick together.
Been beating on them things for years! Thanks for the info!
the things I learn late at night on youtube....lol
Thx for the good idea. Most guys videos would be, hang on and then we dont get to see them do it. Lol but you show it. Thx.
It was a good demonstration.
Old guy skills.. Don't tell em about the luxury of guilt free afternoon naps.. Let em figure that out on their own.. LOL
I’m very greatfull to the person that showed me that years ago, it has saved me a lot of frustration. I’m sure people learning this from you will feel the same way!
I did learn something today ... Amazing video.
As a 5 gallon bucket hoarder many thanks my friend😊
Wow. So the energy and time I've spent fighting with buckets.
Thanks for the tip!
well that worked..cool. i'm going to try and remember to use thin strips of cardboard in between so they dont get stuck ... thats a good trick if you have stuck ones to separate !
I have done this. I used to use alot of buckets at work and we had a supply of straps for packaging,so I did it alot. Works good, but is not perfect. They can still get stuck a little. But combined with this air gun trick, should be just about unbeatable.
I put a block of styrofoam in the bottom of each one. JUST thick enough to stop them from nesting all the way together & forming a vacuum. I think they're about 3-4" thick.
love this idea I use a brick or some bubble wrap
That Sir ...is a great idea. I set them in a tub of hot water ...it expands the remaining air just enough to help pull 'em apart. Laying some twine in them prevents a seal & the vacuum caused when trying to separate them & takes only one tug. But your idea is far better if one has a bit of compressed air.
Nice! Great tip!
I’m 68 years old, I wish I could have all of the time back that I spent trying to separate buckets all my life. 😳🤦🏻♂️🤨
I've had this problem with large, Rubbermaid trash barrels. I use the garden hose to squirt some water down the crack between them and the top barrel eventually cannot help but float right out.
Thats really impressive I will be doing this from now on instead of throwing away my stuck buckets thank you for sharing this friend
This was awesome. Thank you for the tip. I've had buckets like this where I swear even two sticks of dynamite wouldn't separate them.
Brilliant idea! I have a stack of buckets that are stuck together. Now I can get them apart!
Thanks for sharing your knowledge and keep your videos coming please.
For those really stubborn ones, place the bottom of the bottom bucket in a large pan of hot water, and that should work. But very cool method.
I use pieces of old rope between each one - works for me
You can also use a water hose you will get wet I live in the south where it's not extremely cold I've also heard you can use WD-40 you put the WD-40 in between and then twist and lift at the same time
full marks for you tenacity!!
I've been using buckets as a contractor for years and this is THE first time I've seen such a thing. Thank you so much!!
Just run some water around the edge of the lower bucket. These are never 100% sealed. Water will flow into the voids and create buoyancy, applying constant, upward pressure upon the bucket above it. They usually float up in a matter of seconds.
Yup, I have some plastic trash barrels that I pull apart this way with water. The gap around the 2 of them is usually too big for the air trick because it leaks back out too fast, but water falls to the bottom of the lower barrel and as the lower barrel fills, the upper one cannot help but float out.
wow. I am 64 years old and never thoughta this. Great idea. Thank you. I subscribed to see what else you have up your sleeve. In construction I have used a bazillion buckets and have quite a few at home. Always store them away from children would be my side tip. A fellow pipefitter lost his son to a bucket that had water in in it out in the yard, tragic. Thanks again for the tip.
I just look around on the ground and pick up a twig about pencil thick or slightly less and 6 or 8” long and hold it in the bottom bucket on the sidewall with a couple of inches sticking out while putting the top bucket in The stick will prevent the top bucket from sliding in far enough to get stuck
Thanks for the tip, subscribed because of it! We have buckets with broken plastic handles from trying to get them apart.
Thx. for this tip I ran in to this issue this morning.
That's a really great tip! As a painter what I've done that works fairly well is to stand on the handle of the top one and grab the bottom one by the top when they're upside down. That technique offers better grip and strength pulling them apart.
