    Great video and great reminder! I just checked mine when I changed pads, rotor and break hoses, using your excellent brake pressure bleeding system!

    When I bought my 1980 450 SLC there was a definite howling sound in the rt. front so I pulled off the dust cover and found that someone had tightened the bearing so tight that the cone part # is permanently pounded into the washer. The race had a crack across the face and the rollers were all egg shaped. Of course the tick metallic sludge was an immediate give away even before I loosened the bearing nut.

    Thanks Kent good heads-up. A good 3 years / 40k miles ago, I installed new front rotors/pads on a W201, along with regreasing and adjusting front wheel bearings with dial gauge. Runs beautifully.

    I was going crazy thinking my transmission was making this type of noise on Grand Caravan, went to a mechanic we went on a test drive and he said it's not a transmission. He checked all the wheel bearings, so he calls me. He says put your hand on a rear suspension spring. Feel anything? No. Lets check the other. He spins the wheel and I can feel the grinding by holding the spring.

    My dad’s Subaru Outback had 199k miles and absolutely had a wonky noise that I thought might be the wheel bearings and he just wouldn’t do anything about it. I finally took the damn car and drove it to Subaru. Yes, wheels bearings. So I had them take care of it. Was not cheap. But otherwise the car can go another 200k miles.

    Given the age of the cars, and the fairly modest cost of bearings, seals and grease, wouldn't it be a simpler to replace proactively for a 30+ year old car?

    Just replacing both fronts on my R129 for future proofing; they're so inexpensive it's crazy not to if you don't know when they were last done.

    Hi, the backside of My 1984 W126 280SE hits on the obstacle thresholds while driving. I changed the rear shockers, changed the tires to a bigger size and I always drive slowly over them (about 10-15kmph). It seems to get worse when there's someone on the backside too. What else can I do to solve this ?

  • @derrickclaypool666
    @derrickclaypool666 Рік тому

    Ok but what about rear wheel bearings? Same procedure???

    • @Mercedessource
      @Mercedessource  Рік тому

      Rear wheel bearings are more difficult to diagnose as you can not spin the tire fast unless you remove the axle first

    My 1985 380se Mercedes is making a dadadada noise it gets louder when I get over 40 idk if it's my wheel bearings or axles what u think ?

      @Mercedessource  Рік тому

      sorry that is something I can not speculate on without inspecting the car. Take it to a good front end shop for diagnosis

    How long should wheel bearings last?

    • @Mercedessource
      @Mercedessource  14 днів тому +1

      I have not seen them fail unless abused under 120K. Between 120K and 200K all depends on type of driving, lubing and adjustement. Above 200K recommend they get changed as a preventative.
