same, mainly watched english, but i really loved yamcha's japanese voice. really hurts too because he sung yamcha's own theme song and it hit but now i feel dirty listening to it.
I never really saw dragon ball in japanese so i was always more of a english voice myself but learning this today made me sad, it feels like we were betrayed
People are always going on about how the Japanese VAs are way better people than the American ones. This just proves you shouldn't put complete strangers on a pedestal. It's okay to praise someone but dont act like celebrities aren't capable of evil crap. He probably admitted it because either someone threatened to expose his behind, he's dying, or maybe he grew a conscious and wants to confess. Regardless he needs to step down from being a VA and work on himself because what he did was messed up and evil. Poor girl went through a lot and what makes it worse is that people likely knew and did nothing to help her either out of fear or didn't want to be out of the job.
People say that because unlike English VA's, the Japanese ones are completely douchebags. Plus those people are willing to call out horrible behavior is proven and that's exactly what's happening now. No one is defending him here.

Ultimately, despite the fan outcry and any possible media coverage... once the chatter dies down, I doubt anything will come of this. Remember the Rurouni Kenshin author, Nobuhiro Watsuki? Dude got busted for having underage pornography back in 2017, got off with a 200k Yen fine, and everyone in Japan moved on. Watsuki still gets those Kenshin royalties. Crossover stuff still happens with his IP in games. While I won't say that Japan doesn't care, it is so overwrought with apathy that no positive change ever seems to occur when it comes to its entertainment industries because everyone assumes that nothing can be done.
I'd bet money that Furuya is gambling on the heat dying down within a few months, especially since he came out and admitted to his wrongdoings on his own, before things go back to business as usual for him. Fuck him.

From what I read on an expose', Toru used his Rei voice (from Detective Conan) to flirt with the fan because that was the role that brought Toru and his partner together. As a Detco fan, this is pretty awful. YTV also put out the news and said they don't know how this will affect future episodes of Detective Conan. Even Detco fans want him recast as Rei

So here's a fun bit of information. Japan does things differently compared to the western world. When an affair happens, a married man cheats on his wife with another woman, it's the third person, the other woman, who gets blamed for the affair. Not the guy. The guy will usually get a slap on the wrist while the woman will have her whole life ruined. That means, whoever this chick was that Toru was messing with will most likely stay quiet in order to protect herself. That also means that Toru will probably face little to no consequences here.
In west if this happened this would be opposite and on news…

I never would've thought that a Japanese Voice Actor of Yamcha would ever have such a horrible Dark Side about his Life, I do hope 1 Day they'll find another different Japanese Voice Actor for Yamcha instead of bringing back this domestic abusive Deadbeat ever again,
People always praise Japanese Voice Acting to be superior than English Voice Acting, but when in Reality, even Japanese Voice Auditions are not always Considered, some don't even get the Job or don't have many Roles that are close to do 10 or 20 Characters in different Formats.

As a gundam fan this especially hurts because amuro ray is known as the goat in the gundam franchise and is very beloved character by the community. I can separate the art from the artist but unfortunately this leaves such a huge stain on not just 1 but MANY beloved characters over the last couple of decades.

In Japan when celebrities put out a statement admitting their actions really quickly it means that press/tabloids (ex: Bunshun) have already called him to let him know he's been caught. So that's just their PR response knowing that their actions are about to be exposed to the public. Other reasons could be threats from the 3rd party but in most cases its the press catching wind

Well, since the Mario movie came out, Memory Miyano is the new Official Japanese Mario. (Sequels and maybe anime shorts)
Him being 70 and confessing about these heinous treatments of a woman 3-4 decades younger than him is heart breaking. Perhaps he realized that he wouldn't be able to die with a restful conscious if he didn't tell the truth sooner rather than later. Maybe he did this purely to salvage some dignity before being exposed for it. Maybe he was blackmailed into confessing this to avoid having anything worse he did get brought to light.
Who knows. All I'll say is this though: Nobody as impactful as the voice of Sabo, Yamcha, and Tuxedo Mask in this day and age would confess a colossal wrong-doing on their end unprovoked. They'd do everything in their power to keep the truth suppressed in order to preserve their image and status, but Toru Furuya, for one reason or another, admitted more than any UA-camr or celebrity would without being called out.

Greetings. I heard about this news from one of my old college buddies whom I still keep in touch with. Hearing how a beloved voice actor disgraced himself with his actions will affect how I watch Dragon Ball Z again in the future. If anyone here has heard of the Try Guys on the internet, I'll add that this is eerily similar to the Ned Fulmer scandal that happened in late 2022.
