I just heard this news and after looking into it further, it's really surprising. doing such vile things to his own fans really makes me heated. I'm sorry for the trauma that Ms. A felt both physically and mentally from Furuya. because this has become public, I hope that Furuya takes full responsibility for his actions, from the violence he committed to the post-trauma that his ex-girlfriend may have experienced after being forced to have an abortion

This might be my life experience and what I had seen (He came to Anime Boston once.), but I wasn't surprised to see he cheated. The abuse surprised me a little, but once I heard that the pressure to get an abortion made sense. I'm upset with him. My guess is his wife may have even realized he was cheating, but it is hard to leave, but maybe with the abuse attached it will give her more incentive to leave. I've heard it's harder for women in Japan (I think both you and I are American and even if you're Canadian I've heard it's easier there compared to Japan as well.) to leave their husbands or that divorce is harder over all. I mean Ami reflects on that in Sailor Moon.
I have known several people that pulled abusive things, some of which to me was cheating or was absolutely them having sex with another person, and they have jobs. Part of a redemption arc is having a way to make an income. I also realize probably other people are doing this to in that industry, so he should not be the only one to face consequences. From my standing though, scandals like this do make me less likely to want to watch or read something though.
I'm glad you're a guy who cares. It's good to know and the more guys who promote caring then we can get rid of this idea that men can't be expected to be above doing this. I wasn't that big a fan of his, but I really rooted for Ariana Grande in her early years and I'm sad because of things like this I've heard about her and her song that encourages another girl to breakup with her boyfriend because she's bored. It just seems to be so she can want him, instead of her or the character trying to move on and leave other people's relationships alone.

I'm lost to words about this. Part of me is shattered, and while I liked his character roles but... now I can't respect him anymore, even as Gundam fan, DBZ fan, One Piece fan, and Sm fan.

Cheating and affairs are incredibly common in Japan unfortunately. This goes across everyone and not just celebrities in Japan. The unfortunate reality is that there are probably tons of Japanese celebrities/seiyuu that have gone through affairs that are still under the table.

Just to keep things clear I gott ask, did he really sexually abuse her, or did he "only" force her to do an abortion?
Cause while still bad, they are not the same thing, with the former potentially even framing Toru as a rabist.
The sexual affair was consentual. But at one point, Furuya beat her (the victim) and later on, pressed her to do abortion after getting her pregnant.

VAs are kinda a bit of a superstar in JP as far as I understand, so these behaviors are sorta understandable, but harming peoples lives are still a no-no, definitely needs to be punished by the law and probably be counseled.

How was he abusing her? that would be my question. Also, I'm American not Japanese so could you explain a little on the abortion laws in Japan and what is and is not socially acceptable. To me personally, him not wanting her to go through with it doesn't automatically make him a horrible person but depends on the context of the conversation.
