During that long interlude, when we're explicitly being told to feel the rhythm and feel connected, they are literally combining two rhythms that are off from each other by a beat. This causes the hi-hat, and then the snare to sound like they are drifting backward in the sequence, which of course means they come back around and line up correctly every few cycles. This song is Tool's final exam for Tool fans. They tell you to embrace it, while pushing reality through itself, and if you can manage to do it, you will witness the beauty, and fathom the power, and bathe in the fountain.
Aww, but I wanted to swing on the spiral. 🌀
This whole song is built on the fibonacci sequence, even the lyrics are broken up to the syllable to fit the flow of it all. it is rather interesting to dive into if you ever get the time to look it up.
Oh! I remember someone saying something about this a few years ago when I listened to another Tool song, but didn’t know it was lateralus! I wish I’d remembered that before watching as I would’ve been more aware of it

The time signatures of the chorus of the song change from 9/8 to 8/8 to 7/8; as drummer Danny Carey says, "It was originally titled 9-8-7. For the time signatures. Then it turned out that 987 was the 16th number of the Fibonacci sequence. So that was cool."
The whole album is 💯
Breaking news! Tool did it again! (22 years ago) 😂
In all seriousness, this has been my favorite album since it was released. Glad you enjoyed it.
I realise how it looks but for me it’s brand new! 😂
Same
"Black and white" means thinking things are just one simple dimension: Good and evil, right and wrong, that there's no in between. Just because you see the middle (colors as a metaphor) doesn't mean you're overthinking, it just means you see that everything's not so simple and has varioud dimensions. Over thinking is trying to find the "right" answer, the black and white answer.
True. Also it has to do with the tree of life and being born. As you grow your senses develop and you see more than just actual black and white and as we grow from an infant you see the world in more and more colors unless your born color blind lol. But basically never shut yourself off from evolving. Keep going
Love how you picked out the "swell" at 8:05, or whatever time it was. I think I could best describe those 4 bars as an ASMR moment for me. Makes the hair on my neck stand up.
Danny's gong is the wall of sound
TOOL ARMY reporting for duty!
Spiral out bud, keep going 🌀🌀🌀👁🤘🏼
The blue glow of your room is very soothing.
Thanks! I like it too!
Ha you can see the point where you go, “holy shit he’s a great drummer”
The extra dimension is Justin chancellor hitting a bass pedal, probably a phaser
Fibonacci ☺ the music and lyric syllables follow the golden ratio spiral 🌀 love this track 🧡
Yeah the most mathematical song ever created. Genius.
“Spiral out Keep going”
🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀🌀
in my opinion black and white, are represented by yes, and no. its one of 2 ways this or that. red and yellow, are represented by shades of gray, and now its not so cut and dry, there's more to every situation, and that lets him "see"
Watched it again with right half obscured
Yeah the video is a struggle isn’t it!
Not the most appropriate video. Too busy to concentrate on the ideas.
Dan! Long time no see. Hello, friend!🌀🌀🌀👋👋👋
Lyrics have some flaws though.
@@cranboogiehey dude
Yeah no vids with Tool, way too distracting to the intended 'message'.
The bass player is from the Uk just a 30 minute drive from where i work. I see the Stone roses poster behind you i like them too , like me I'm sure you will be a huge TOOL fan soon !!
No I think he's saying both ways work together to help us spiral out seeing the black-and-white and seeing the colors and then over-analyzing but then realizing things and then making a movement towards something you know what I'm saying
46 & 2! And nice Stone Roses poster. Best band no one knows about.
They’re legendary in my parts!
I miss your Mars Volta breakdowns
Subbed for more Tool! Spiral out my friend!
On time signatures in this song. In the chorus alone of overthinking over analysing ect the time sigs go 9/8 8/8 7/8 also 987 is a number in the fibonacci sequence.
Crazy lolz

@@ThomasJ_Music there a yt vid called the math behind lateralus. Its mind blowing what they managed to do, some pure intension others are happenstance.
TOOL forever. 🖤🤘🏾🖖🏿
