    Thank you ladies! So nice to hear from people more like me in journey and age than trying to look like the young influencers showing off their bare midriffs! I can’t compete with them as much as they are fun to watch. It is so important to be reminded that you can’t always be perfect and not to obsess over everything. I am trying.

    Thanks so much for your programme today, me and my hubby have been doing whole food plant based since January, he has heart failure and chronic kidney disease, he has always been super fit and had a healthy diet. We started this eating plan for our health, and what is so amazing his kidney function has stabilised and this in turn has allowed the Cardiologist to increase his heart medication. I think you are so inspirational and so down to earth and make the WFPB easy to understand I’ve lost 1 stone 10lbs in two months, hubby has lost 7lbs but he doesn’t have much weight to loose. We are loving this way of eating and the easiest way for us is to not make it too complicated. So thank you for all you do to encourage and inform people about whole food plant based eating.

    I appreciate this so much. I have thought that AJ was "Goldhammer-lite" and have felt so ashamed that I never could reach that level of perfection. This discussion has helped me to see that I am not a failure, but instead even wise, when I listen to my body and make adjustments that help the plan work for me. This is my way of eating for life, as it is the only thing that works for both weight loss and health in general, but I will never be "perfect" unless I abandon all friends and family and social life. Balance is my new mantra. Make best choices possible given the situation, allow for missteps and move on, and appreciate the progress I'm making. Thanks again.

    I love hearing that not everyone is "perfect" in their plant based eating. It's a struggle for me. I do great for a day or two, then have something non-compliant and feel, "well, I've blown it so might as well eat "fill in the blank" Very defeating. It helps knowing you all are not 100% perfect all the time. Jessie...I love the way you said you stretch your tahini by adding other ingredients to it. Do you have a recipe/ingredient list of how you make it? Sounds very tasty.

      Kristine, please use this as a starting point to experiment and make it your own. Glad you enjoyed our group chat. And thanks for asking about my tahini sauce.
      Tahini Fruit Sauce
      (This recipe makes 32 oz and you can cut it in half. Cut the spices amount in half also if you do that.)
      1/4 cup tahini
      1 15 oz. can pears (without the juice)
      6 TBS applesauce
      1 TBS miso (I use Eden Foods Shiro Miso)
      2 tsp mustard (I like stone ground brown mustard but yellow would be okay)
      6 large dates (7 if you’ve overdone the mustard :-)
      1/2 cup Colavita white Balsamic vinegar, or lime or lemon juice, or apple cider vinegar
      Water as needed to fill 32oz container
      Spices can be added to taste but are not necessary.
      You can try any one of these or any combo that appeals:
      2 TBS Simply Organic Salt Free All Purpose Seasoning
      2 tsp Local Spicery Pepperoni
      2 tsp Local Spicery SEL-acious
      1 tsp chipotle sauce
      1 TBS salsa
      1 tsp Tandoori spice mix
      1 tsp Garam Masala
      Blend until smooth. I use a NutriBullet blender. Put in fridge for at least 15-30 minutes. Blend again before using. Good as is but will thicken overnight in the fridge. Lasts 5 days in the fridge … if it lasts that long. Enjoy.

    Omg.. I’m only 24 minutes into this UA-cam video and I need to hear this so badly. I have been ashamed of myself for not being able to eat perfectly for so long. I wanted to be whole foods plant based SOS free and I’m not able to maintain it past 2 weeks. My body seems to need a tiny bit of tahini or natural peanut butter or cashews in a sauce for example. When I try to restrict myself so much I give up and I actually unfollow so many UA-cam accounts and Instagram accounts over and over again. This is a vicious cycle I’m on and my health can’t afford to continue this way. I’m extremely overweight and I want o be healthy so badly but I feel like a failure. I have purchased the 21 day program and I haven’t even started it because I’m afraid of failure once again.
    Thankyou

    Thank you so much for this! I can’t tell you how reassuring that is to hear. I love how you say, “ find the least restrictive plan that works for you.” Unfortunately I am one that does have to go pretty restrictive to see the scale move, which is why your program is the only one that works for me. I can’t do the nut sauces and the avocado at this time. But it’s so terrific to see that you made it to a comfortable space where those can be moderately enjoyed. In response to the vegan world, we all need to give each other grace and encouragement, as you all do. ❤

    I love this type of video where the girls are just hanging out and talking about their shared experiences. It was kind of surprising, but a little liberating to hear that some our most popular docs eat unperfect foods sometimes like a white bagel. Makes me realize that we are all human, including them and we don’t have to be perfect all the time. I am a HCNC, and I do have a snackcident now and then, so be it. I put a tiny bit of salt and sugar on some of my food (ala McDougall), but I do not use any oil at all. I am WFPB for most of my food intake, no animal products, gluten free, and recently started low FODMAP for IBS which is so restrictive. I’m in the second phase now, and it is working. I love you all so much! Thanks to everyone for doing what you do and being here! ❤😊❤😊❤😊❤😊

    I am one of the nutrient chasers, but I do realize that as advice, it's pretty impossible. But I'm not going to stress skipping a day. As advice: it's way more important to skip the ultra-processed foods, avoid animal products and increase the amount of plants you eat.

    I loved this format. I found it very helpful with everyone’s suggestions. I have been struggling lately with snacking all on excellent food, but I’m eating way too much and even though at times and beyond feeling full even if it’s broccoli, it just seems I’m not happy unless I finish it even if it’s four cups worth. I’m afraid I’ve stretched out my stomach. I’ve been WFPB no oil, sugar and salt only in condiments for 4 years and have reached my weight goal but recently have noticed my weight climbing. I have concentrated on the past two months, increasing my protein since I was showing a lower proteins level and also I am trying to build muscle. I turned 64 in April and use to be extremely diligent but have increased my eating so now need to work on no snacking. I also do not eat after dinner which helps but any other suggestions would be helpful.

    People often end up eating too much from the stress put on their shoulders by others. Even when you don’t lob the ping pong ball back, these days some people will double down until you are dead. Sort of like they see you as Trump and you must be utterly destroyed. I got treated this way in a FB group promoting the Engine 2 Diet.
    Once a year we splurge and for Valentine’s Day, I made us a Vegan pizza. Mind you I am at goal, My husband isn’t but he has not had any more cancer. Love him anyway. I posted a picture, people wanted to know how I made it. Every MOD had a talking to with me. I did not give in.
    His habits are better than he used to do, but he has not looked anything up at all.
    Guess what group I will never go back to?
    It was a total shock.

    I love you chef AJ, but it is helpful to hear that there are doctors that have a bagel or a beer. If you are not someone who has significant health problems or allergies eating this way most of the time can still be beneficial. I think it only reinforces the need to be perfect when you suggest that sharing an avocado with your husband is an example of “not being perfect”. Most of us want to keep doing better, but there can be really strict standards of “good enough” within this community. In some ways this show reinforced them.

    What item did Jesse add for heartburn?

    • @jessiebunker-maxwell3914
      @jessiebunker-maxwell3914 2 місяці тому +2

      Hi Shelley ... I didn't add it for heartburn, I added it to keep myself from giving in to cravings for sweets/desserts in the evening after dinner and then discovered that it was preventing heartburn. What I added was Nature's Path brand organic fruit sweetened corn flakes. It was complete serendipity ... I had no idea or expectation that it would work to control heartburn for me. I eat it with soy milk and I sometimes add frozen blueberries and bananas. But the corn flakes are the key for me.

    • @llminnema
      @llminnema 2 місяці тому

      So how much cornflakes do you add to your bowl? And do you just do it once a day in the evening?

    • @jessiebunker-maxwell3914
      @jessiebunker-maxwell3914 2 місяці тому +2

      @@llminnema I do anywhere from 1/2 cup to 1 cup of corn flakes with some soy milk and frozen blueberries usually. Occasionally I’ll add a banana. I started out doing it in the evening to counteract those cravings for desserts and sweets that I couldn’t fight off. But if I feel like I’m going to have a heartburn problem during the day, I’ll have some cornflakes then and if I also end up having them in the evening, I’ll reduce the amount. I’m not actually that crazy about corn flakes but I’ve found that if I skip having any for an entire day, I can sometimes start to feel heartburn acting up by that 2nd day. But sometimes I’m okay. In general, the heartburn situation is much better and I think continuing to improve.

    • @llminnema
      @llminnema 2 місяці тому

      Thanks Jessie for your response… I actually like cornflakes… So it will be great to try to eat them to reduce my acid reflux symptoms too…Lord willing! 😬😀

    • @jessiebunker-maxwell3914
      @jessiebunker-maxwell3914 2 місяці тому +1

      @@llminnemaI hope you get some relief from the reflux. Remember that corn flakes are calorie dense so if you're trying to lose weight and especially if you like corn flakes, make sure you're not having anymore than you need. The ingredients in the brand I use (Nature's Path Organic) are organic corn meal and pear or grape juice and salt. There are 120 calories in 3/4 cup and you'll also be adding in whatever plant milk you use. The good thing about corn flakes ... absolutely no fat and the sodium is acceptable at 125 mg sodium per 3/4 cup serving. Cheers!
