Yeah, the white energy beam, instead of green and the talisman glowing when the watcher is around were hints the game was dropping that the watcher is really Envy. Another hint is when Fury defats Lust and Lust tries to strike a deal with her. As soon as Lust says the name Envy, the watcher pops out. Then Lust says "She is the most pathetic of us" and looks directly at the watcher. Another hint (though I could be imagining this one) is when Abraxis says "The meek always envy the strong. Isn't that right, Watcher?", I think he puts an emphasis on the word envy, while addressing the watcher at the same time.
I also thought while playing that all the sins were different races that rose to a higher or lower existence of sin. With Lust and Pride being angels; Sloth, Greed, Warth, and Gluttony being demons; and Envy being a Nephalem. Just a thought though.
Probably the best representation of the 7 deadly sins special praise to Lust’s voice actor for doing a fantastic job.( also I always assumed the fake Envy was just minion similar to a minion the other Sins had.)
indeed true, the designs are awesome and pretty clever. lust was just awesome that they went with the warrior design and not some succubus or something. also love the sloth design: like a bugqueen who does nothing and let's the others do the work. or averice being a greedy goblin. darksiders is awesome with the monster designs
It makes sense for envy to have a talisman that harvests power from the other sins, as real life jealousy, can convey the other so called sins. A very nice and subtle design choice.
Lust was easily the most fascinating (and probably biblically accurate) of the 7. It didn't just represent sexual lust, but the lust for ANYTHING. Power, Glory, Respect etc... That was poignant to me. We too often portray Lust as purely sexual, when in fact the sexual form of lust is only one aspect. One can lust after power with the same burning, all-consuming desire with which one lusts after a member of the opposite sex.
I usually like Lust to be represented as a shapeshift who suits whatever form would best fit for whomever they are talking with. For instance if someone is lustful in the traditional sense lust would seem like a beautiful women (or perhaps androgynous) showing sexual desire. However if someone lusts for power then perhaps lust would take the appearance of the perfect servant, or the appearance of the pinnacle of power. If some weary soul simply longs for companionship. Then perhaps lust takes the appearance of that companion.... just my two cents
But By definition you cant actually lust for anything. Lust by definition is SEXUAL DESIRE. Desire and lust are not interchangeable desire is a generalized want for something. Lust is specifically SEXUAL INFATUATION OR UNBRIDLED SEXUAL COMPULSION. You dont lust for power because you dont want sexual gratification from power you crave power insatiably. Lust only has that 1 aspect to it. Its a specific form of desire or obsession.
Yes, but shouldn't lust have been the most powerful sin then since they basically encompass all the other sins as well? What is greed if not a lust for wealth? Sloth is lust for comfort. Gluttony is lust for food. Envy is lust for something that isn't yours, etc.
In the game, it was mentioned that a demon that Lust was in league with gave them the power to raise the dead. I don't remember Usiel's exact words, but he tells Fury this in his "office" before he hands her the crossblade. It's also worth noting that Lust and Abraxis are the only two people who were aware of Envy's true nature. Thus, it's not much of a stretch to assume that Abraxis is Lust's associate. Sidenote, I love Lust in this game. Their armor looked great, the voice was great. Great Great Great.
Great video! The Sins were definitely well-designed and super fun to see in the game. I must say that as much as I like this Sloth, I also really like the one in FMA:B where he's the fastest sin. Because being able to do something but choosing not to because it's too much effort is true sloth.
The design of Lust was quite possibly the greatest secondary videogame character design ever. Having a man voice "it" was also a masterstroke. When I first heard Lust I swore it was female until I saw the credits. Also very good job on describing the talisman, I think you guys got it spot on. My first playthrough I always suspected Envy was hiding as the watcher due to what Lust (after fight) and what Abraxis (before choice) tell Fury. And because I tend to avoid any internet involving darksiders when I'm playing it to avoid spoilers I was jazzed to see I guessed right.
I just realize that the real envy is like shang tsung from mortal kombat: 1-Both of them use others Is unique moves 2-both of them are color green characters 3-both them are final boss to their respective games
This could also mean they have been transforming within mankind too, eventually leading to wars, bad decisions, desires, and destruction. Question: How come the talisman grew extremely bright when she threw it at the Council? Could they have been.....
If Fury broke the seal with the sins in it then that means they're technically free again. We are probably going to see them again in Darksiders 5 when all the horsemen are together, hopefully.
Both Mr. Dunn and myself agree with you two. These are by far my favorite Sin Representations and so far my favorite villains in Darksiders closely followed by Samael.
One explanation I heard of fake Envy was that prior to being Fury's watcher, Envy gave her amulet to a demon, giving her power and corrupting her to think she was Envy
Since 2 and 3 take place before War starts his adventure to clear his name in 1 The Seven Deadly Sins could possibly be lurking around the world again while War is on his adventure if their souls weren't permanently destroyed in the massive explosion at the end of the game
I was just watching the Seven Deadly Sins video and I also read the comment from AdeptKing about the seal and freeing the sins I was just thinking, what if the seal is a key with a powerful spell inside to open a door to a shadow realm just like the Door in the Tree of life.
I love all of the designs of the sinsand i think the secret of the fake envy is hidden in her design. It looks like a dark crystal character or a PUPPET. Envy made her to loom like her old form for fury to capture her early on so she wouldnt be suspected
I love how the boss fight with Sloth doesn’t end because you mortally wound him, it ends because you basically pushed him over and he doesn’t bother getting back up
If you watch the cut scenes the fake Envy looks at the watcher when the talisman starts to glow and tells her MINE ... also when Lust it talking to Fury before he dies he threatens to expose the Watcher just look at the Watchers movements ...i like the subtle hints that are dropped
Great video guys! That was a nice catch with talisman b/c there were some moments in the game where I noticed it glowing more like I was near a sin but I actually wasn't. Or so I thought haha. Also something I wanted to point out back during the video where the real Envy reveals herself, her appearance looks like it might have been based on an old concept of Death. If you guys have the Darksiders 2 artbook take a look. There is a concept drawing of Death with 6 arms, a hood, two guns, and a sword. I thought that was a nice callback in a way and use of concept art.
12:23: I disagree about that. The order is mostly decided from the start (especially because Fury´s hollow form are lock to specific Sins) and THIS IS HYPPTHESIS, so I could be wrong. There are 7 sins (and you fight Wrath twice) + 1 fake and the first 2 and the last 2 are set in stone: 1. Fake Envy, 2. Wrath, 8. Pride and 9. Real Envy. 4 Sins left. After getting the Flame Hollow, you will bump in to Avarice (who you need to defeat to get the Storm Hollow). Order: 1. Fake Envy, 2. Wrath, 3. Avarice, 8. Pride and 9. Real Envy. 3 Sins left. I think, you can temporary skip Sloth by using Vulgrim and the Serpent Holes (but this is not tested), but you still need to defeat him before Pride. And the rest of the Sins is also decided for you. Defeat Lust to get the Force Hollow, which you need to defeat Gluttony, who in return give you the final Hollow (Stasis Hollow) which is necessary to get to Wrath v2.0. So in the end it´s only with Sloth you´re giving a little leeway, but the rest of the 7 Deadly Sins are predetermined.
i still don't understand how the council could not be aware that the Watcher was the real Envy. Like, the council "gave" us the Watcher, they are supposed to be the highest form of authorities and power.
OK so it was the charred council that gave Lust the power to rise the dead and they sent angels to kill rampage, they would have known where Fury and Rampage were in order to send the angels there. Lust was their prisoner for years and giving her the power to create un-dead was a ploy. Making her a bigger(noticeable) target for Angels and demons while thinning out the Council's enemies on Earth.
In the game they never actually said who gave lust that ability. Usiel said that angels think it was an unknown demon(I think it was The Dark One considering that Lust seem to know something about the plan which the franchise is based upon). From DS 1 we understand that The Council is pissed by what's happening on Earth so I think they just want all the power for themeselves without working with the Dark One.
I honestly think the sins can comeback since they indeed has been destroyed with talisman but they are immortals and since Talisman is gone they are freed therefore a chance to comeback.
Theory - it was another illusion. There's no sign of Rampage's head once the fight starts. Yes, I'm rationalizing my wishful thinking. Also, would have been an extremely stupid ploy by Gluttony to piss off a Horseman that way, but then it was a stupid ploy even if he really did eat Rampage.
@@Lodrelhai Gluttony actually ate Rampage. You can check this by yourself, just go after fighting Gluttony to the place where you 1st fought with Wrath, you will understand why it wasn't an illusion. 1 note - if you go there before fight with Gluttony, Fury will have a little dialog with Watcher
the reason they keep coming back is because even though their bodies are destroywd their souls still survive which is why the talisman of sin is required to seal them up

It could also be that she accepted their offer so she could have the powers of the other sins to betray them in the end. :)
please do a lore video on cloud strife from final fantasy 7
I do love this Lust many people forget lust relates more then to just pure sex it saddens me
I want the 7 heavenly virtues to show up in the darksiders universe.
The what ?
@@Smug_Adam69 the 7 heavenly virtues their the opposite of the 7 deadly sins.
@@josephsupulver4333 what are they ? I mean what are their names ?
@@Smug_Adam69 I think you should google.
Where is Escanor ?
Expect Escanor
even darksiders 2 side bosses are more epic and interesting
Did the chared council know that the watcher was Envy? Also why did Envy have all of the horsemens weapons except for fury's whip?
Council know beacose they relase her;
She took every Horsemen weapon, but she took kinda Fury's body, or at least similar shape. She also took Death-like mask as it is just super cool :)
Explaining lust in such a manner was annoying let alone confusing
;)
The representation of the sins i agree was refreshing shame the game paled in comparison to 1 and 2. But i also believe that their is more to the council then what were meant to believe
