Beto O'Rourke talks to reporters after interrupting Gov. Abbott's news conference

- Beto O'Rourke, the Democratic nominee in the race for governor of Texas, lashed out at Gov. Greg Abbott and other officials holding a press conference about Tuesday's deadly school shooting in Uvalde, Texas.
In total, 19 children and 2 adults were killed in the shooting at Robb Elementary School.
After Abbott finished discussing preliminary findings of the investigation and mental health outreach opportunities for the community, O'Rourke stood up and called the shooting “totally predictable when you choose not to do anything.”
O’Rourke was eventually escorted out while members of the crowd yelled at him, with one man shouting profanities at O’Rourke.

What does renting a car have to do with getting a rifle? A 18 year old has been able to get a rifle for 60+ years? I am emotionally exhausted at the faces of death across this country. Aren't you, my fellow Americans tired of this? Can we not agree that AR15 guns have no business in the hands of civilians. Yes, I understand you have the right to the second amendment, yes, I understand you may have a hobby with these guns, and yes, I understand that many of you will never ever commit a crime this heinous, but that's not what this is about. This is about making it harder to obtain guns that can cause extreme bodily harm in seconds. If Medicaid were expanded, many who qualify for Medicare through disability would also be able to apply for and qualify for Medicaid. I don't know your particulars, but I agree that those who are unable to work should not have to pay fees for health care that they cannot afford. I'm a family doc and I see disease claiming people's lives largely due to lack of access. Even those who have insurance often can't get coverage for their meds, or have diagnostic studies priced exorbitantly high even after checking on insurance coverage. Being less than wealthy in Texas can be as deadly as almost any other chronic condition. I don't know whether politics could ever make a human healthy. But I know that our state's current political situation puts obstacles in the way of Texans' health and wellness and our state as a whole can afford to be better.

Even if the police took 10min and only one kid shot, it still doesn't make it right. The real reason why this is happening is not because the police and fast or slow, but because someone who wasn't mentally stable had a gun in his hands. Why did he have a gun in his hands? Indeed. Planning must be informed by research. Currently, the CDC is allowed to research gun violence but they are not allowed to reach any conclusion that might support gun-control. It seems pretty clear that well-informed research into the matter is hamstrung by political wrangling from lawmakers who don't want to see anything less than an A+ on thier NRA report card.
Action on gun-violence can only start to happen when we can truly look at all avenues without worrying about how it will affect our political alliances and standing. And that means questioning America's relationship with firearms.

Marksmanship should be part of school curriculum. This would reduce the number of school shootings, while teaching responsibility and gun safety at the same time.
How would teaching potential mass shooters to shoot more accurately solve mass shootings? Genuinely curious because I can't follow the logic. The shooter could have been very disciplined, and kept his finger off the trigger until he fired on every single one of those children.
@@ridgejaco9185 Somewhere along the line, it became a stigma to own guns. They stopped teaching about guns and people lost touch. If schools taught about them, it would become second nature to have a gun. We need to back to that. I encourage you to get a gun, learn to use it and I promise you that you'll see things differently. Go watch some channels called Brandon Herrera and Demolition Ranch.
@@ridgejaco9185 Teaching Marksmanship at school would require Certified Firearm Instructors, a shooting range, and of course some guns. We are not forgetting classroom work and does not have to be a required class.(But I bet you get a huge enrollment interest.) Teach Safety, Responsibility, Gun Law and proper use combined with Tactical Defense Technique. Put all that together and who in their "right mind" would try to invade a school with a program like that in place.
The truth is that schools have done absolutely nothing of any significance to prevent this horror.

I feel like as a country we're grasping at straws trying to find anything solution besides gun control. I love the second ammendment. However, it is clearly way too easy to buy guns. We're the only modern country that gives just about anyone access to guns and we're the only modern country that has mass shootings on this scale. It's not poverty, mental health, religion, family values, other countries have those as well, although those do contribute.
