The look of shame and devastation on Cruz's face, followed by that utterly pathetic comeback about how "[he] loves the Constitution" and "Twitter is Twitter" had me absolutely rolling. Do people maybe not understand the reference in that joke? Because that was among the greatest insults I've ever heard in my life. Let me explain the difference; the Twitter joke was a prepared line. The neutering joke was an off the cuff comeback. He had to strike gold in about one second and he hit a grand-slam! THAT’S what made the joke more impressive.

So not only is the retort the exact same joke that Ted Cruz just made, but the response is a little like saying, "I know you are, but what am I?" The only difference is that Smigel has the ability to make the joke funny by providing an actual logical context ("Democrats cut your balls off" has no context, makes no sense, and thus isn't funny, whereas I think we can all agree that "Trump cut your balls off" is a wholly accurate and quite pertinent statement of objective fact, and is thus hilarious). So while I respect Smigel's quick thinking, I'm still less impressed by that than I am by a masterfully crafted joke. I feel like I probably could have made the "Trump had you neutered" comeback. It's the sort of joke I would expect to see a bunch of people make on Twitter and Reddit, and would expect to hear on every late night talk show. He recoils at the other jokes, and even laughs at the spayed and neutered joke, but that joke about how he won't stand up for his wife sucks the air right out of him. It's glorious.

Everybody in the comments here loves the joke about Trump neutering Cruz, but to me, that joke wasn't nearly as good as the "...except when Donald Trump calls it ugly on Twitter" joke. The look of shame and devastation on Cruz's face, followed by that utterly pathetic comeback about how "[he] loves the Constitution" and "Twitter is Twitter" had me absolutely rolling. Do people maybe not understand the reference in that joke? Because that was among the greatest insults I've ever heard in my life.
Seriously, watch it in super slow motion and you can see Ted Cruz momentarily remember what "shame" feels like, then die on the inside (again), and then turn his politician's autopilot back on to offer that weakest of retorts. It's a glorious progression of events.
Let me explain the difference; the Twitter joke was a prepared line. The neutering joke was an off the cuff comeback. He had to strike gold in about one second and he hit a grand-slam! THAT’S what made the joke more impressive.

The only difference is that Smigel has the ability to make the joke funny by providing an actual logical context ("Democrats cut your balls off" has no context, makes no sense, and thus isn't funny, whereas I think we can all agree that "Trump cut your balls off" is a wholly accurate and quite pertinent statement of objective fact, and is thus hilarious).
So while I respect Smigel's quick thinking, I'm still less impressed by that than I am by a masterfully crafted joke. I feel like I probably could have made the "Trump had you neutered" comeback. The way it doesn't give away the subject of the joke until right at the end, when you're hit with the realization that the joke has nothing to do with the Constitution, it's such an unexpected shift, and you can literally watch Ted Cruz get destroyed in real time. He recoils at the other jokes, and even laughs at the spayed and neutered joke, but that joke about how he won't stand up for his wife sucks the air right out of him. It's glorious.
