      Uh, no...people who say all you gotta do is "save" aren't being honest -- the lady alluded to being fortunate very quickly in passing.
      The wealthy do not simply "save"...even long-term CD rates barely keep up with inflation; despite the man talking about saving, the percentages he cited refer to investments, which are much, much trickier.
      And oh yeah, BTW, a recession's coming -- though good luck timing it!!

      True, always easier said than done. We can all make a few cut backs but cutting cable won't get us to a $250K 5mpg rig and not have to work half the year. In the end I guess it's what you value the most in life.

    • @martinburzynski9657

    • @martinburzynski9657
      @martinburzynski9657 7 років тому +63

      Croaker actually cutting out a 120 monthly cable, bringing your lunch to work saving 10 per day or 220 per month, sharing a car thus saving $700 per month cutting out 300 per month in entertainment and dinning out and a few other things totals 1500 per month. Or 18k a year invested at 6% is more then 250k in a decade. So there you go now you have a plan. :)

    • @robertcurtis1191
      @robertcurtis1191 7 років тому +22

    Love this couple. I really liked how they shared that about living simply and travel versus stability and routine.
    I like the name adventure vehicle, great name because can't really call it a Skoolie, or call them Vandwellers.
    Their adventure vehicle has such a nice design. Also everything in it looks high quality, practical and useable.
    Their layout is simple, but has what most people want, a bed, bath, kitchen, washer/dryer, and place to sit / eat / use a laptop.

    I drove this truck (LMTV) across Iraq and Kuwait during my deployment. I served in the U.S. Army. I remember telling myself that I MUST have one of these trucks when I get back to the states. It was a pleasure to drive and has more that enough power to do just about anything you ask of it. They are easy to drive, maintain and operate. Do you have the operator and maintenance manuals for it? If not, send me a message and I will point you guys in the right direction so you can obtain them. My job in the military was to maintain these vehicles and much larger ones. Thanks for sharing this video. You just reignited my flame to build one. Good luck to you both and God bless. Happy trails!

I have several places to source military surplus vehicles and equipment in my state. Maybe you guys will be interested in checking out what you can score at these yards. I can't seem to stay out of them when I'm near by :)

      Also perhaps you can solve a puzzle for me. My M1088 has a frame that's been doubled and bolted together with a steel plate. It's just plain massive. What was the mission specific reason for this? A SAM battery? But those usually get mounted on HMETTs.

    7:45 great advice. This is what I live by. You are born, grow up, live, and die in the same city. Who the heck wants to do that? I can't believe my Mom or my Dad come home from work and just want to stay home. After work, I go for a drive, I explore, do things, etc. I will not be the person that lives and dies in one city. I want to see everything this world has to offer, and it's 100% achievable.

  • @SquirrelFromGradLife
    @SquirrelFromGradLife 7 років тому +38

    the problem with ex military vehicles is that although they might seem cheap they're expensive in the long run simply because they're not focused on fuel economy! you save money up front but you quickly burn them at the pump... a commercial vehicle needs to be very fuel efficient or else the company goes or of business fast therefore an ex commercial vehicle is always a better choice..

    • @martinburzynski9657
      @martinburzynski9657 7 років тому +3

      SquirrelFromGradLife actually you are incorrect. Equivalent commercial vehicles of the same size and specs get identical milage for example Unimog, MAN and Mercedes Zetros. The difference is all new commercial vehicles need ULSD which is only available in US/Canada so you need a multi-fuel engine which can burn HSD. So you either have to buy a US pre 2006 vehicle or a Euro 3 standard vehicle or military.

      What most don't get is that you don't LIVE in the thing like a house. You sleep there. You live your life outside! You don't need windows when every day you are outside the whole time. And yes, there is no bad weather only bad clothing. This is true. I work outside and with the right stuff you don't even notice bad weather.

      +Martin Burzynski Nice! My dad is retiring as an attorney today on 10/31, I don't think he likes traveling much but built a cool house at the beach.
      If you don't mind how much was the entire build cost-wise?
      I currently live with my fiance and small dog in a small 4 door sedan in SF Bay Area. We could afford a mortgage for a decent house here but are just saving and investing instead. The car situation is less than ideal so I've been planning to build a stealth RV in either a box truck, Sprinter van, or bus. But your 4x4 military conversion is very tempting since we go to the mountains very often.
      Thanks

The reason the govt sells the vehicles so cheap is that they have been fully depreciated on the books and they just need to get rid of them. Great words of inspiration at the end. :)

      The opportunities to make a living are as abundant as ever in the 21st century, I recommend looking beyond what the system already offers and get creative with how you want to make a living. What we need to understand is that opportunities to make money are always changing and that some jobs that were previously in demand are no longer in demand.

Very blessed that I have a buddy that a motor pool Staff Sergeant in the army and a nephew that a CAT diesel mechanic so I can get all the paperwork, the pros and cons of the truck and a mechanic I can trust the much lower cost. Hope to have mine within 6 months to a year.
