your channel came across and when i was going to like the video and, i saw your subscribers and i was surprised. You have high quality content. You definitely deserve more
Thank you, I think it's hard to grow on youtube in 2020. There are so many creators, but comments like this help me keep pushing. Sharing with your friends also will help me grow faster!
Hi, this is such a helpful video! Thank you for sharing this content! Would you recommend taping in 4K or HD on iPhone? I was told that 4K might be too large to send in to CDs/auditions.
Great video! I assume you edited this in editing software [A Premiere?]. Can you advise on your export settings to get your video to look so good? I export and seem to lose so much quality. Cheers!
Hey Dan, great video! I'm looking for a backdrop right now and although I like your suggestion for using the popup 5 by 7, I wonder what you use to shoot your slate and what framing & backdrop you use for that. TIA!
I usually just show the whole room. No need to pretend like it's not the middle of your apartment. Pull up the curtain and show how the magic works, IMO. I have some friends who shoot the slate vertically (when filming on iPhone). A bit harder for me since I shoot on a DSLR. Best of luck!
Will you please talk more about the CRI? I am just switching my 5500 bulbs that are 45watts to 85w and 130w with 110V but how do I know what my CRI is? I googled but it told me I had to measure from color swatches?!
Yeah that's a great question. I tend to want my tapes to look like they could have been taken in the casting directors office. I don't want producers to be distracted by anything, So I personally have gone with the industry standard blue. I have some friends who have done grey, or darker blue colors, and those work great as well. Personally, I would stay away from other colors because I want to be remembered for my performance, not my cool background. Does that help? I could probably make a full video about this.
Hey Dan! the link for the equipment is no longer! Are you able to link them? I really wanna get the lighting equipment :) Thankyou Dan! love the video!!!!
Hi Claudia, there are lots of different backdrops available including grey. Personally, my backgrounds don't look very "BOLD BLUE" because of the way I shape might lighting. Most casting directors that I audition for do use a "bold blue" in their offices to film their tapes, so I'm not sure if that advice is 100% accurate. This is always a matter of taste.
I'm sure the supply lines will return to a more normal rate in the coming weeks, many of the products in this industry have been put on pause due to the pandemic. They'll be back soon :)
Super helpful video. Really happy that I found it. Thanks, Dan! Best of luck to you out there!
Thanks, Evan! So happy I could help. More to come. Stay tuned.

Whether you film in 4k or not, I wouldn't deliver to the CDS with more than 1080p. just don't need it too big.
@@dantracyoriginals Thank you!

Hi Dan! If you had to use only two lights for self tape which of your recommendations would it be?
yeah absolutely! I'd reccomend the light that's labeled "perfect selftape streamer light" in the description. two of those are PERFECT.

What lights / bulbs are you using? CRI is very technical reading that does require specific equipment / tests to identify.
May I ask why a blue backdrop is a must?

Updated!
Hi Dan. Can you please post the links for all the equipment? Thanks in advance.
sorry for the delay! I was dealing with an issue with the affiliate program it has been resolved and the links are now in the video again.
Hi. My acting teachers and CDs online are saying to use a gray or light blue backdrop, not the bold blue. Thoughts?

Do you use some kind of portable light when you need to do self tape on a go or at work?
I prefer a big open window with indirect light pouring in. That's my go to when I can't bring a light.
Do you have a link to an alternative light (or place to purchase online elsewhere). It's out of stock on Amazon for the foreseeable future
Here is one! www.amazon.com/SL-60W-Version-Bowens-Controller-Reflector/dp/B082ZH8C7D/ref=sr_1_19?dchild=1&keywords=godox+100w&qid=1586352542&sr=8-19

@@dantracyoriginals That was so sad about Adrienne, she was in my neighborhood at the time, and I still think about that awful news.
