Growing up in Texas, I was taught to fear and kill rattlesnakes, but now I know to appreciate their place in the ecology of our landscapes because they help to control the population of small mammals, and I can appreciate their own unique beauty and respect their right to be alive. Have you ever seen a twin-spotted rattlesnake? They're the rarest of Arizona's three tiny mountain rattlesnake species. Those are great shots of that ridged-nose. I just saw my first one last week after looking for 4 years.
