Rescued a baby mocking bird once that fell out from its nest. Placed it back but the mother refused to care for it. So before it starved, I took the baby bird in, nursed it and fed it until I knew it could fly on its own. Took it to a wooded area about a quarter mile away and let it fly off but next day he was back in my backyard and there he remained for almost thirty years. His female mate would fly south in October and return in mid February and it was always a sight to see them reunited. Sadly, this is the first winter that he's not shown itself around my backyard. Perhaps I'll see him again someday somewhere yonder.

I knew it was something like that. I was walking my cat one day when she noticed a fallen hedge and went to investigate. A small young starling flew from the hedge and she chased it across the road. It landed on a cars wing mirror but she couldn't see it. She was sniffing around the car when suddenly dozens of adult starlings made a v formation and swooped down on her. She fled with the formation chasing her off. Amazing.

I was in my back yard one day with my cat. He was just walking along when a flock of big black birds dived at him. It must have been about 10 birds. I picked him up and we went in the house. I've most often heard of aircraft striking birds when the aircraft were flying low such as during take-offs and landings, but as the aircraft gains speed (never heard of a bird able to fly as fast as a jet) and altitude, how did the birds keep up? This doesn't make sense. Also, how many exotic birds were being transported? Couldn't be more than a few. An explanation of how birds external of the aircraft in the proximity of so much jet engine noise could hear a few birds inside the cargo hold screeching their heads off would be useful, too. I wish Paul Harvey were here so I could learn the rest of the story.
