Years ago houses did not have the closet space they have now. People didn’t have so many clothes. So these very functional pieces were designed to fill that need. I have one very similar to this one and plan on giving it a makeover, possibly using wallpaper on the drawer fronts due to severely chipped veneer.

I found a chifferobe similar to yours on marketplace for 60.00. I was in love...until reality set in. It was in very poor shape. It had at least 3 coats of lead paint on. The bottom was so old it was falling apart. I completely took it apart. Then I became overwhelmed with the scope of the project and I had 4 other dressers to finish. So we gathered it up and took it to our storage until. I know I will finish it at some point in the distant future.

Yes you can give it a makeover just make sure you proceed with the necessary steps with lead paint and no sanding. I try to keep away from pieces that are painted or tested for lead paint. There are tutorials and videos on how to deal with lead paint.

Interesting piece, I would have said the drawers front needed to be pre-stain conditioner applied first.

Yes most likely i should have pre conditioned. I liked the look though that came out and i didn't sand off all the previous stain. Next time ill use pre condition, thank you for the tip 😊

I have never known of a wardrobe like this. I think what you did was ideal for the piece and glad you redid and considered before leaving the side raw wood instead of paint. Thank you for your reasoning process. It helps one consider how to go ahead with their own projects. Thank you and Merry Christmas to all.

That is gorgeous ! But how do you clean your brush when using black paint ? I am new to refinishing and ruined my first Zibra brush…Aughhh

Thank you. I use Country Chic Paint brush soap. It smells so good and keeps my brushes soft. I have a link in my description. I ruined my zibra brush once too but its because i used it for a poly. I try to keep them just for paint now
