  • Join us in this special episode of 'Flying Adventures' for an unforgettable tale. This video also contains the world premiere of our parody song "Kosh-A-Maria, inspired by our challenging and chaotic yet memorable first arrival at Osh Kosh with my friend Roger. This special episode is a unique detour from our 'Wings Across Canada' series, focusing on an adventure that's a rite of passage for aviation enthusiasts.
    Our Osh Kosh arrival adventure was filled with a series of challenges, including navigating through reduced visibility caused by distant wildfires and tackling unforeseen technical issues with my iPad. The transition at Endeavour Bridge added to the chaos, with planes attempting to merge from every direction. To top it off, we found ourselves in a precarious situation with a tail dragger unexpectedly ending up right below us and out of our field of vision while we were on our base leg.
    These demanding circumstances not only tested our flying abilities but also ignited our creative spirit, transforming this experience into a humorous musical piece, which we completed and recorded upon returning home. Don't miss the special performance at the end of this video, featuring my son James on percussion. Tune in for an episode that blends aviation adventure with musical flair!

    I flew in to 'Osh 2023 on my own, but I came in just before the NOTAM came into effect and had regular ATC service. Watching this was waaay more stressful than my arrival. I hated the idea that I had to be there early to setup... but I now know that being there early was great.

      Thank you for sharing your experience at 'Osh 2023! It's interesting that you flew in before the NOTAM took effect and got regular ATC service. That must have made for a smoother arrival compared to the busier times.

    Great video. That looked nerve wracking.

      It certainly was. I'm glad I had a 2nd pilot on board to help with things. I was getting pretty task saturated.

    I've flown in twice...it's always like this.....I would have shut off the iPad.....eyes out of the cockpit is the best for this procedure....and knowing the notam....good job.... the beer always tastes good after that.....

      Thank you for sharing your experience. Your approach of turning off the iPad and focusing on visual navigation is a good reminder of the importance of staying alert and relying on direct observation, especially in challenging situations like this. In this case with poor visibility and two-mile spacing, we relied on the iPad quite a bit more than we normally would have. Being well-versed in the NOTAM is definitely key as well.

    Sorry you guys had a tough arrival. This past year was a tough one, but I’ve had tougher. We arrived at Green Lake at 0700 and we made it in first try. Before the idiot landed on Rwy 18 when Rwy 36 was in use requiring EVERYONE to abort and go back to Endeavor bridge. There was a time when we did not see ANYONE except on ADS-B. Pretty blind! We did have controllers out specific tail numbers to return to Endeavor.
    You guys did GREAT!

      Thank you for your comment. Yes, our arrival was indeed challenging, but overall, we had a fantastic week and gained valuable experience that will make us more comfortable for future arrivals. It sounds like you had some challenges as well navigating with limited visibility except for ADS-B. It's interesting how each year brings its own set of challenges, and it sounds like you handled your situation well. Here's to more successful flights ahead for both of us!

    That was fun. I had a much easier time coming in a couple of days earlier, although your landing was much better. Great job on the song.

      Thank you for your comment! It's great to hear that you enjoyed the video and had a smoother experience coming in a bit earlier. Landing conditions can certainly vary! Also, I'm glad you appreciated the song - a lot of effort went into it. It's always encouraging to receive positive feedback from fellow enthusiasts. Looking forward to sharing more content with you. Happy flying and stay tuned for more!

      @@flyingadventuresabhave to object to the artistic license, you landed on the red square, not the yellow one. I'm just kidding of course. I got the yellow dot on 36L. I just moved up to CEG3, probably see you out there.

      @@CuratedPile Ha ha, I was curious to see when someone would pick up on that. We needed a two-syllable word, so we switched the color to yellow! If you're around Lacombe, we might bump into each other. Which hangar are you located in?

    Wow I’m glad I went in on the Saturday morning - it was downright tame by comparison. My iPad kept doing the same thing as yours, it didn’t occur to me that my iPad just couldn’t keep up with all the traffic. I assumed I was just losing the ADSB signal intermittently.

    • @flyingadventuresab
      @flyingadventuresab  7 місяців тому

      Initially, I had the same opinion as you, but after giving it more thought, I'm now fairly certain that it was the iPad.

    • @WingsOverTO
      @WingsOverTO 7 місяців тому

      @@flyingadventuresabI think that probably makes more sense than the ADSB being an issue, since my GDL 52 picks up the signals directly from other planes, not just from ground towers, so losing all the planes at once is probably unlikely.

      Thanks... the 2-mile spacing was what made it so crazy at Endeavor... If it wasn't for that, I feel like things would have been a lot more orderly.
